Good revamped apartment, shame about the flies.
Reviewed 2 days ago

We have just stayed a week in a Derwent self catering apartment, we did the same last year but in the past year the apartments have very visibly been revamped internally, new modern fittings and now more friendly for a 2 year old. It backs onto the play area so very popular for our little one, he loved the climbing frame and slide. Only down sides are the sheer amount of flies that make their way into the apartment, we had the same last time and again this time, we asked and got given 2 rolls of flypaper but by the end of the week they were full. I can now go home and not have continual buzzing around my head while sleeping every night. We know it is nothing that can be done and not the sites fault, it's nature and therefore still give a 5 star as will come back again, great base for the visiting the rest of the lakes each day and our little one loved it so much that he ran back to the apartment after check out only to find a cleaner in 'his house.' Shame the free WiFi has now become chargable also but I can get signal for my phone just have to use my data. Will be back again, thank-you for a great week.

Awful Place

We booked this accommodation through Dial an Exchange. Whitbarrow - Luxury Lodges. Think not! We drove 4 hours and checked in today for what we thought would be a relaxing family week with friends. The accommodation in Troutbeck 27 is awful. The place is smelly and dank. The furniture is tatty and worn. We thought we’d be getting a hot tub but all we got is a dirty patio area with tired and dirty furniture covered in duck poo and fag ash - no smokers here! We called Reception to ask to be moved to be told the place is full for the week. If you are a dial and exchange customer - don’t come. Apparently you need x amount of points to get a decent lodge. Has dial an exchange forgotten we have paid our own resort fees, gold club membership the £99 for the exchange. Then we have had to fork out £46 in utility fees and an additional £25 for WiFi which is unsecured - for what - to stay in accommodation that is no better that one star. Come on. Bitterly disappointed. Ps I hope the pictures say it all. There is an additional balcony upstairs covered in dirt and dead insects.....

I understand that some of the lodges here are supposed to be nice. We have seen no evidence of that other than pictures on a website. We did dine in the main hotel tonight and the food was good. Pity about the accommodation. Tomorrow will be spent trying to find a hotel.
