How to Get There
Bavaro Palace is a beautiful facility. Possibly 5-star, except that its difficult to maintain that level with the large number of guests. Very clean and well-maintained - amazing for its size. Food not so much. They just couldn't seem to get it right, never felt like it was a high quality dinner. While I thought the Mexican was the best, it could not touch a basic Mex restaurant in the States. Steakhouse was below average. Coral was good one day and not another. Kyoto was terrible at the sushi bar, didn't do the hibachi thing, but some folks thought it was good. La Brisas, not very good.
Drinks - not big drinkers, but there were 2 days where we started mid-afternoon because that's what you do in the Caribbean. Never got the slightest buzz. I actually asked to see a bottle of vodka to check alcohol content as I had a martini of a name brand - no way that it was the same as in the USA, tasted diluted or maybe the stuff they import just has less alcohol content. Stopped on the way home and did a test - ordered a martini right off the plane, night and day difference...dramatic. Wine - terrible house wine. Good news, no headaches on any morning...not sure how that didn't happen...
We loved almost every aspect of this resort. However, it is difficult to get into restaurants and they must be planned several days in advance. The views are amazing and the water and beach are the best I have been to.
Was told at check in that we were given an upgrade but we’re not told that it would be in the room was not in the adult only part of the resort ( which we paid more for). So it was not an upgrade at all. I had a room with children right next door to me . I don’t dislike children but other people’s childern that don’t behave I have a problem with that’s why I hook ADULT ONLY which I did not get but paid for.
Great beach... beautiful resort
Terrible service... food quality was poor to ok.
Several of our group 4 of 16 ended up sick with vomiting and diarrhea... we never pinpointed the source. Our only guess is that the buffet might need more attention to ensure germs aren’t spread. Seemed like norovirus.
We just got back from our trip. Beach is beautiful and people were very nice but hardly anyone speaks English. Do not drink the water and bring snacks food not very good! Go see Walfren Santana in guest service. He is awesome!!!
