How to Get There
Considering my phone broke on the trip and I lost all my contacts and photos, I still managed to forget all about it and had such a memorable and beautiful experience, definitely coming back and bringing more friends!
If you are looking for a resort that has it all - this is it. Only thing I would change would be more "snack" options in case you want to munch in the afternoon. Be sure to verify your room when you check in, as we did ask for King size beds when booking, but were given two full size instead. Make your reservations for your supper meals the day you get there to ensure you get decent times/locations.
Did I stay at a different resort than all these 5 star reviewers? Or do you all not know what a resort is supposed to be like?! The absolute WORST! Rooms are outdated with NO PRIVACY. No walls in bathroom and old outdated frosted glass for the “walls (that didn’t go to the top) “ for the toilet and shower. Don’t just go with a friend unless your getting very close that visit. HORRIBLE service in restaurant. Forgot my appetizer one night and brought it out after I got my entree. And everyone was just like, “here ya go. Whatever.” The cook at Kyoto just kept staring at us for a tip after he cooked. Very unprofessional! Food at EVERY location, we went to was dry, bland, and not seasoned. Servers at buffet rush you out. I went to get a refill (yes I had to get my own) and came back to where I had left more than half a plate of food and everything was gone. The server just looked at me and said, “oh sorry. You can get more.” And be careful what you get, cause the “sausage” at breakfast is also a hot dog at lunch. The food was so bad, an EMPLOYEE of the resort told us where to go to get good food OFF the resort. And to their praise. It was excellent recommendation, but sad we had to leave to have god food! (Funny story, when we got in the cab, the driver said, “sorry you are staying here!”haha) Moving I’m from food; I was kicked out of the pool at 8! Because apparently the 4 amazing pools (which is an exaggeration.) close at 8. 8pm?! So we tried to go to the Casino after the pool, and there is all of 6 maybe 7 tables with odd “stripper/dancers” Never in my life have I experienced such low-rent production. So, let’s go to the bowling alley instead right? The one there their are 4 lanes .. i said that right, where there is 4 lanes. 4 —- thousand of rooms resort and 4 lanes. Ohh and the “hot tub” in every room is an old, bathtub with jets... and the drain will keep coming out forcing you to continually refill. But all in all. NEVER go with the cheapest option. You will get the cheapest resort! At dinner we actually met people who had just checked in, and they were booking another resort at the table, because this one was so bad. Wish We had done that.
This was our second stay with Barcelo group in Punta Cana (first time was 4 years ago on adult only side (Barcelo Bavaro Beach).
Food selection at buffets seems smaller this time. Coral is great choice for seafood restaurant. La Dolce Vita restaurant is exceptional as well as La Comedie.
We stayed in Junior Suite with our 2 year old. It was very spacious and jacuzzi on patio was a hit.
Pools are clean and pleasant temperature wise.
One of the pools has swim up bar.
Kids pool has some play structure which was plenty for 2 year old. There are 2 water parks on property but they are extra.
Birds, turtle and peacocks watching is great (by golf course and botanical garden at convention center )
Beach had seaweeds on it couple days bit was clean the rest of the time. Family side beach has more trash (cups, straws, etc) than beach on adult side and beach away from pools.
Highly recommend bringing big cup for drinks to decrease trips to the bar and decrease use of flimsy plastic cups that are bad for environment.
We always bring handful of dollar and 2 dollar bills for occasional tips.
There is market past adult side along the beach that is great for buying larimar jewelry . I haggled successfully for everything I bought
I’m not sure how this hotel has such a high rating but this is by far the worst trip we’ve ever taken. We paid for premium, ocean front, we’re put on the first floor and got to see some bushes but no ocean. Called to get our room changed to a higher level. We’re told tomorrow, then when we went to change was now the next day. Whatever not the end of the world. Then we get to second level room, beautiful view! But the air conditioner in the room doesn’t work. Our floors are leaking water. Controls on the outdoor hot tub literally are falling off. This is far from a five star resort. There are a few nice people who work here but most are rude and demeaning. I highly recommend another hotel or Mexico. Much better experience at Riu Palace in Cabo than here.
Also, you need to do premium or you get charged for everything, even WiFi. Oh and dinners men need to wear long pants and collared shirts.
