How to Get There
There is something truly unique about the holiday experience at Golden Sands that has made my wife and I keep returning year after year.
The location, on probably the best beach in Penang, is an excellent starting point. The gardens and pools are also well laid out and maintained; but I think that what makes staying at the Golden Sands such a uniquely enjoyable experience is the friendly staff, many of whom have been there since our first visit in 2005. Nothing is ever too much trouble.
From Nathan, Darvyn, Azu, Uru and Lee running the Activities to Miriam seeing to our room and Dini in Guest Relations sorting out any minor problems that we may have, they are all - without exception - a credit to the hotel.
Special thanks too must go to Balan, Charles, Anthony, Monty, Hadi and the rest of the Garden & Sigi's Crew for making sure we were always regularly supplied with tea, coffee, milkshakes and whatever else we needed during a hot day lazing about in the garden. The quality and range of the food available at breakfast is also worth a mention - as are the breakfast staff in the Garden Cafe who make sure that the first meal of the day is an enjoyable experience. The quality of the food in Sigi's of an evening has always been good and this year I was again suitably impressed. My only criticism would be that there is perhaps not enough choice on the menu in the evening. It would have been nice to see the option of some local cuisine as well as the traditional western options.
The lifeguards watching over the pools are nearly always overlooked and it is easy to see why this might be the case at Golden Sands. It is because they are quietly efficient in their duties; from ensuring the safety of the children using the water slides and playing in the Kids Pool to preventing one or two more boisterous guests from spoiling other people's enjoyment of the main pools. Hats off to you guys.
The hotel is currently undergoing a much needed face lift, but although mildly inconvenient this did not detract from the overall enjoyment of our holiday in any way. The rooms have always been comfortable but now hopefully the little niggles about the air conditioning not being as efficient as it used to be and a plug not fitting properly in the bath will all become a thing of the past! Let's face it, if you want five star opulence you should go and stay next door at the sister hotel. However, if you want an enjoyable holiday in a friendly atmosphere with no airs and graces then make Golden Sands your next holiday destination - you won't regret it.
1. A kid friendly hotel. Highlight is definitely the extensive swimming pools they have, perfect for kids as they have integrated slides/playground in the pool area. Trust me, kids can play all day long here!
2. Rooms were big enough for that value, very clean as well although the bathroom could use a bit of improvement.
3. Facing the beach, so for family checking in this hotel, there are water sports activities at the hotel beach.
4. Restaurants are abundant here. Can easily get local food/the normal McDonalds, Subway, Starbucks just across the road, so convenience wise is definitely an A.
5. One thing that is a bit of let down is the parking area, which is scarce. And you do have to walk quite far before reaching the lobby as the buggy is not really active. But that’s a minor issue. Overall still a fantastic stay!
Staying here at Golden Sands, coming to the end of our holiday. I had posted a earlier review highlighting some problems with our room which had impacted on our holiday enjoyment after arrival. I wanted to write an updated review to say that the Front Office Manager, Mr Ranjit Singh, responded immediately to the review and met with me and my husband to discuss the issues raised. He was sympathetic to our situation and understood our concerns. He promised to immediately address the issues raised which he did efficiently and professionally and we were extremely impressed with the service he provided.
We have fond memories of Golden Sands from a previous visit with our sons and thanks to Mr Singh we feel that we shall leave once again on a high note.
The hotel has a number of activities to suit all, young and old, and uniquely, different age groups holiday side by side without distracting each other thanks to the layout of the hotel grounds and pools.
The staff have been friendly and welcoming and clearly do their very best to ensure that their guests leave having enjoyed a wonderful tropical holiday.
Would I recommend the resort - yes I would - in a busy hotel like Golden Sands, there can always be problems, however small and the way those problems are handled separates the better hotels from others. On this occasion, for us, they were first class.
Hope to see you again in the coming years.
I had an amazing lunch today at Sigi’s. I got the Spinach Ricotta Ravioli while my friend ordered the Seafood Aglio e Olio. Aside from the amazing food was the staff! Shoutout to Balan and Rozanne for the excellent service! The ambiance was also amazing, I really liked dining by the beach and soaking up the warm Penang sun. If you’re headed there, try their icy cold mocha!
I also really like how accomodating the hotel is for children, the Splash Zone makes a huge difference!
We had a fantastic stay at Golden Sands. Value for money is unmatched. Great quality food, nice room product, and fun for the entire family. Had some great drinks at beach restaurant, while listening to live music. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Will be definitely returning and recommending to others.
