Not worth your money! Stay Away!!
Reviewed 1 week ago

During our 5th year wedding anniversary trip we went to the Cook Islands where we stayed in the 5 star Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort. Which we booked thru Booking.com We were looking forward to be staying in a deluxe beach front bungalow overlooking the Aitutaki lagoon and being able to walk of the deck of our bungalow on to a beautiful pacific white sanded beach. As shown on the beautiful photos on the different booking sites.

Unfortunately, what should have been a dreamy 5-night end of our 3-week holiday in paradise turned in to a very big disappointment.

Please be aware that we have payed several hundred euros per night to stay here.
For the same amount of money, we could have easily stayed on luxury 5-star resort on other pacific islands like Moorea, Bora Bora or even on Mahe in the Seychelles. Where you will find a pristine with sanded beach in front of your bungalow.
However, wanting to discover a new destination we picked this resort on Aitutaki.
Please don’t make the same mistake we did and read on.

The Resort:
The resort itself is located on a small isle just under the Aitutaki airport in the bottom of the Lagoon. The resort has 4 different room types we stayed in a deluxe beach front bungalow which are located next to the overwater bungalows overlooking the Aitutaki lagoon.
Unfortunately, this side of the resort doesn’t have a beach. Between the bungalow and the sea is a narrow patch of dirt with a couple of trees which end at an cliff like rocky shore.
The only way to get in to the water is via an old wooden ladder located a small walk from the room. This is completely different from what the room name would suggest, because there is simply NO BEACH in front of the room, just a rocky shore. Witch was really disappointing seeing that this was promoted on the website and the photos on Booking.com

If you are looking for a dream destination with a killer view, this is NOT the place for you.
I won’t keep calling it a resort because it simply is not!

The Food
The hotel has one restaurant and one beach bar, where they have set times for both restaurants to open and close. Unfortunately, the staff decides when they open which
Restaurant and they do not follow the times according the information folder we received at our arrival.

Lunch
When we were ordering room service one day we could order only from the restaurant, because the beach bar was closed. The next day we decided to order the same dish again only to discover that this time the restaurant was closed and we only could order from the beach bar. Which is very strange seeing that on the in room dining menu both the restaurant and the beach bar should have been open.

Dinner
The main restaurant is the H.M.S Bounty and looks like a restaurant from the early seventies and serves a different menu every day. If you are currently thinking that is not so bad keep reading! The dally menu consists out of 4 starters and 4 mains which range from 20,- to 36,- New Zealand dollars. The dishes are served within minutes after ordering.

After taking a closer look at the menu and the food that we ordered we have noticed that almost everything they serve during dinner is pre-made on the same day (we hope) and heated when ordered. I personally had the tropical chicken which was almost cold and very dry chicken breast with a tropical gravy poured over it, served with rice on the side.
My wife had a pre-made vegetable lasagna which was basically piled up vegetables and some feta cheese with a little bit of salad on the side.

With some dishes, they serve some salad. My wife and I both have eaten the salad on separate days and we both regretted eating the salad the next morning if you catch my drift.

The Room
The deluxe beach front bungalow, has no beach only a reasonable view of the lagoon. And you cannot enter the water directly in front of the room.

The room itself is reasonably sized, is has a raised bed so you can see the lagoon. Unfortunately, the bed is a bit hard for my taste, however this is very personal.
The room is very clean and this also goes for the bath room. Some minor maintenance is required throughout the room. This is because the hotel is very dated and that is starting to show.

The Shower head severally corroded.

On the sun deck, they have placed 2 very nice brand new sun beds.
And there is a table with 2 chairs on the deck (balcony) of the room where you can enjoy your room service.

Unfortunately, our table had an orange fungus growing out of the wood, after telling the management they have replaced the table. However, it is my opinion that this should have been replaced before new guests arrive.

The Service
The staff tries it’s best to be accommodating however the level of service ranges from a 2 to a 3 star and is by far not even close to a 5-star resort experience. what you might expect paying 350 euros a night.

Conclusion:
Due to bad information and over optimistic reviews of les experienced travelers we ended up with a big disappointment at the end of our trip.

Perfect

We upgraded to a premium bungalow and had an amazing stay.
Weather perfect and so was the service. To start with Desire introduced us to the island . She was warm and friendly. Savi a lovely warm face each morning to great us for breakfast. Buffet was great , I’m not sure why people have moaned previously as this was quiet a substantial breakfast.
The island had no kids which was great. Great cocktails, and great free access to kayaks. The day captain on the ferry to island super friendly and knowledgeable, the young guy bit rough with engine.
Antoinette ( I think this was her name ) was a fabulous young talent who did then pick up service and activities on the island. She was super friendly . I would definitely come back.

FOUND MY LITTLE PIECE OF PARADISE
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Wow, wow, wow. What a wonderful place. The resort, the staff, the surrounds. I could not fault it. Had booked the beach bungalows but was surprised by my husband with an upgrade to the overwater bungalows. It is expensive I know but once in a while you should spoil yourself. And this is the place to do it. I have nothing I could fault. The staff were amazing - from the manager to activity staff. Made us feel so welcome. The little touches of bicycles outside the cabins. Just amazing. Thank you so much for making our holiday so special.

Do NOT waste your money on this TERRIBLE place!

We booked for five nights. We stayed one and even that was too much. Admittedly it was raining, but all the more reason for the premises to be in good order with smiling, friendly staff. 1) Unfriendly staff from front desk to restaurant. They don't want you there. 2) Congealed coffee sachets in the room, been there weeks unused. 3) Wifi does not work, nor does the TV. Staff said they would send IT person, never came. 4) Outside shower so when it rained, which it did...5) No roof over verandah on bungalow so nowhere to sit in shelter 6) Island coconut grove a complete rubbish dump 6) Check in abysmal, room not ready, no smiles. 7) Pool area misrepresented in photos, rubbish in the gardens like can pulltops and straws, never gardened, and next to reception. 8) There is a spa and gym but the sort you would find in a third rate caravan park. Disgusting and unusable. 8) Rubber mats on the way to the restaurant have never been moved or swept, with sand and dirt under them. 9) Tears and holes in the bedspread 10) The espresso machine was not working in the restaurant and the waitress was pretending to use it but actually using a Nespresso machine hidden next to it. 11) Went to lunch and the restaurant was closed - the chef was fixing a broken gas pipe - yeah right! 11) the lounges at our bungalow were covered in green moss and mildew. 12) the concrete patio where one washes one's feet at one's bungalow was also covered in moss and mildew. 13) the punt system across to the island is a farce - build a bridge. We left after one night and the staff did not even acknowledge our early departure. Probably seen it too often. 14) When it rained water poured through a hole in the roof next to the restaurant into the garden. It all smacked of a total lack of maintenance and we felt exploited and uncomfortable at all times. I could go on. This place is the antithesis of hospitality- and it's expensive to boot. We moved to another place and there was simply NO comparison. And, when we arrived at the airport the hotel van nearly left us behind! Also, it's not near anything. Don't stay here.
