How to Get There
My husband and I were traveling with an alumni group and we decided to take the pre-trip extension for 3 nights in Madrid. The tour company placed us here. What a treat! The rooms were good sized with all amenities. There was an outdoor pool with a spa. The breakfast which was included with our room was scrumptious and sumptuous: fish, eggs, pastries, croissants, muffins, fruit, yogurt, etc. Staff could not have been nicer. The bar was very pleasant. One night we were so full from lunch that all we wanted was a cup of tea and cookies and they were very accommodating. When it is bull fighting season, the matadors stay at the hotel and you can see them all dressed for the fights in the lobby before they depart for the bull ring. Hotel has excellent location: within walking distance of Salamanca shops, Retiro Park, The Prado and Reina Sofia.
We have been back here many times over the years and love this hotel... The shopping area is the best in town and the local restaurants are great too.. I think the best part of this hotel for me is the bedding! Real linen sheets ironed to perfection that you don't find anymore in the european hotels ! I would suggest this hotel to anyone going to Madrid ..
Stayed there for three nights with a friend. Rooms were a bit on thesmall side but great overall. Hotel staff was friendly and spoke English. Hotel is centrally located and in a good area. There is a taxi stand right across the street and the metro is close by. Recommended hotel! I would stay here again.
Perfect location, if you like to walk Retiro Park really close. A couple of blocks
away you have the latest best restaurants in Madrid. Again Perfect location.
We have stayed there before the needed renovations and another time
part of a group so we could not choose the room. It is worth it to splurge on
the Wellington Club Level Superior room. The club is wonderful, snacks
all day , a great terrace and soft drinks available.
The linens are so soft... breakfast has great selection, you will not miss anything....
My only complaint is that in the morning when you leave your room you see
the used breakfast tables on the hall, not pretty... suggest hotel work on this.
Received good service by Pedro at Concierge and Manuel/Pedro with luggage.
We were a little disappointed with Concierge service in the evening, they
did not help, they were indifferent ....... We will go back......
We spent a few days in Madrid in this gorgeous, historical hotel. It was close to phenomenal shopping, restaurants, and Parque del Buen Retiro. The area it’s in is upscale which makes it less touristy, which we appreciated after spending our daytime amongst thousands of other travelers. The rooms were nicely sized and included every amenity you could want. The only criticism we have is in regard to the staff. There were many times where we would walk into the hotel and not be acknowledged let alone greeted by 1 of the 3-4 people behind the desk. I would expect a bit more in that department from a 5-star hotel. When we engaged with the staff they were lovely and they even brought up a birthday desert for me on the house, which was unexpected and appreciated! Also, my husband was on a mission throughout our entire honeymoon to access an iron and ironing board at the hotels we stayed in. We found out that in Spain and Portugal, hotels may keep one on hand for guests who request it but are very strict about returning it immediately upon use. It was frustrating for him who wanted to iron his nice shirts for dinner each evening. It sounds small, but Wellington Hotel had the best iron and ironing board, and even let us hang onto it for a couple of days, which my husband appreciated.
All things considered, we really liked the hotel and recommend it!
