How to Get There
I have stayed at Hotel Orfila many times over the years. It is like walking back into my home. The rooms are extremely comfortable, the staff is helpful and very welcoming, and the food in the restaurant is incredible: some of the best in Madrid. Breakfast buffet is an incredible way to start your day before visiting the wonderful sites of Madrid. I will never book any other place else in Madrid.
Stayed at Hotel Orfila with my family in June -- we requested connecting rooms and were offered a junior suite and a deluxe that was quite spacious.
The stay was off to a rough start when I emailed reservations to confirm the room, then while browsing their website saw that suites include a one-way hotel transport. As we were arriving late at night this would be incredibly helpful, and I was surprised the hotel did not offer this in their confirmation email. When I inquired, it was immediately confirmed and they asked for our flight info and said someone would be waiting for us upon arrival at the airport.
When we arrived, we did not see a driver. After making multiple calls to the hotel, they connected us with the driver, who said he would be late. So we waited at the airport for 45 min, all the time the driver is calling and only speaking in Spanish, asking us to walk to a different terminal, and the concierge was unable to help. Finally, we told the concierge in frustration that we would just take a taxi, and he offered to pay for it.
When we arrived he was there to pay the taxi driver, and was quite solicitous about the mistake. Our suite was spacious and old-fashioned, and we had a bottle of champagne waiting for us in the room. Everything was nice, if a bit dated, and whileI enjoyed the sensation of staying in a historic property, some of the outlets did not work and the rugs were a bit threadbare -- overall the service and outdated furnishings do not deserve this price point. I think there are better options elsewhere in Madrid.
This is our second time staying in this hotel with my husband and 7 year old daughter. The room is spacious, bathrooms are gorgeous, breakfast is beautiful, the location is perfect and most importantly the staff is outstanding. They go above and beyond. In fact I left behind a shopping bag full of creams I had just purchased and when I contacted them the next day they had the bag for me and shipped it out for us. Everyone on staff in this hotel is top notch!
Look no further this is the right choice.
Stayed for 3 nights. Location was quiet, hotel is elegant. The staff was gracious, professional, courteous and attentive. Perfect stay. Walking distance to gorgeous Salamanca neighborhood.
Thank you Carlos, Marcos and Sandro
The hotel is beautifully appointed and classically elegant. The breakfast was sumptuous although not inexpensive. It was a bit of a walk to get to the museums and some of the other attractions, which was pleasant in the cool mornings but a bit daunting after a long day. The staff was courteous and attentive and we found complementary fruit, wine and water in our room. Perhaps my favorite amenity was the packet of minty, soothing foot treatment left on our pillows in lieu of a chocolate. I found this heavenly after a long day of walking around
