ideal base - very central

Basic hotel in a good position.

Bad points, to get out of the way...
>one of the guys on reception is very rude and really lets the rest of the staff down - we arrived early afternoon expecting to be allowed to leave our bags and come back to get our room later. He ordered us to sit and wait as we couldn't leave our bags and we were half an hour too early to check in!! He was equally rude to the couple behind us. I don't understand why he still has a job there
> breakfast - cold continental is fine (this one is basic and they do leave packets and cartoons in the bin for all to see) but our issue was everything is left out uncovered for you to help yourself. As this was run by the cafe downstairs there was no staff based on our level, tables weren't cleared as regularly as one might expect and who knows how long food had been left out - that said we did see a girl come up on our last morning, and we survived ok

Plus points...
> the hotel is very central- we managed to walk everywhere and felt safe doing so
> the hotel is clean
> the maids and other staff were pleasant
> Jose Carlos was great, friendly and very knowledgeable, suggested some great places to go and made us feel like we were friends - thanks Jose

would like to have had
> a better welcome
> a kettle in the room
> a double bed, or at least not the 3 singles we had for my husband and me

All said and done, we would use this hotel again

Great spot!

We enjoyed our stay at HRC! Great area and within walking distance to el palacio real, plaza mayor! Really friendly front desk attendants. Rooms are cleaned daily and have a fairly good amount of space.

Sweet & Simple

The room itself is small compared to an American room. But everything in Spain is “just enough”. The roads, the restaurant seating, elevators, parking garages.

The closet is a very generous size. There is a slim vanity with chair. Two mini lamps. A tv with cable.

The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly. He checked us in quickly. He gave us a map of the city, told us how to work the blinds and offered an iron.

The restroom has two toilets, a shower & tub, and sink with Mirror. Plenty of white fluffy towels and wash cloths.

Our room fit three guests. These beds are an xl twin/twin size, and were perfect for a girls trip. It reminded us of our college days.

Great location

5 nights here was perfect for seeing Madrid. Local area is up and coming with a good buzz in restaurants, bars and cafes minutes away. La Latina metro is less than 10 mins away and the open top tourist bus stop only 2 minutes. You can walk to Plaza Major in town in less than 30mins. Hotel is good value for location. Room was small but very clean and bathroom likewise. Did not go for breakfast but looked OK. Plenty of local cafes for churros and chocolate. And local supermarkets for water and otjer supplies.Only downside was lack of air conditioning on first evening. Warm weather a surprise apparently. But swiftly put right on following day. Thanks Jose Carlos on reception. He also gave us great ideas for restaurants nearby. Would recommend hotel for a good value basic hotel in a great area.
