How to Get There
This hotel has an old-school charm. Very nice main lobby with bar area for relaxing. Our room was a moderate size with a good size bathroom with a nice shower. There were 2 closets, but no chests for clothing. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. There were also no windows. The staff was pleasant and helpful. They have a very nice breakfast area on the lower level, that served a yummy and hearty assortment of items each morning. We walked all over the city, seeing the sites (our first visit to Madrid), but getting a taxi was easy as well. Gran Via is a VERY busy street, full of shopping and restaurants. The sidewalks are always mobbed. We enjoyed walking in the neighborhood behind the hotel, which was much less crowded, but still had shopping and restaurants. We stayed 4 nights.
Lovely hotel - beautifully decorated. Clean and full of personality and charm, from the original elevator (there is also a modern one) to the tiles there is colour and character. We stayed in room 602 - top floor with a balcony and it was lovely. The housekeeping was also done very well. When we originally booked they could not supply us with the champagne we like (it was our wedding anniversary) however they contacted my wife months later as they had a new supplier and organised the champagne for us. A lovely touch!
Would highly recommend this hotel.
Hotel is very clean. Room size is good for Europe. Breakfast was very good and complete. Staff were very friendly. However, they couldn't help with reserving and local tours. They referred us to a tour comapny near by.
