How to Get There
It is a lovely hotel, top class. Arrival experience is great as staff pleasantly greet you and take care of your needs. You are taken to your room on an electric buggy vehicle. Trips to and from your room can be by buggy or you can take the exercise and walk. The restaurant is great. You can seat indoors or on the veranda and enjoy the outdoor ambience.
I stayed here as part of a work offsite/conference. The location is unbeatable, right by the Zambezi and a short stroll away from the falls. The zebras and impalas roaming the gardens and the old colonial buildings are all part of the magic, although some of the rooms are a little tired and in need of an upgrade.
Alas, service doesn't live up to the location. We had so many hiccups on the way to our conference: everything seemed to be a problem for the "events team" to organize, and my team and I had to come up with solutions ourselves, such as where to organize the meals, etc. Once there, we did struggle like some of the other guests mentioned, to get through to housekeeping took a good 20 minutes of calls, then the wrong item would be brought up. We had pre-arranged menus for some of the meals and of course some religious colleagues were served soup with bacon in it even though we had specified no pork in the meals as a rule. When we explained our disappointment, we were given a cursory "sorry" but it didn't seem that anyone was overly concerned. Given the total price paid for a 2 day event, it is totally underwhelming. Next year we will go elsewhere.
Great stay with fantastic service by Edward & Bernard who received us with warmth and enthusiasm, Check in by the soft spoken Levisone. Currency change by Gift. Our service staff porter Benjamin and butler Nefuna made the stay so comfortable and easy. Meals were attended by Judith (settled our lunch even though we were late and in a rush) Matongo managed our dinner selections and service thoughtfully and of course there was Lesnes for our breakfasts. I am duly impressed.
The grounds were excellent with grazing impala and zebras to greet you at sunset and sunrise.
You have free access to the Zambia side of the Falls for morning and evening walks. Enjoy!
The only problem I had was the intermittent unreliable slow WiFi. I mean really. At one stage the lobby was filled with WiFi seekers. No kidding.
Checking out tomorrow. It’s been a good stay all things considered
Amazing property. This is my 3rd time staying here over the years. The up keep is excellent. The grounds, animals that roam the grounds are amazing. It is a gem in Africa. Mention of some staff who were helpful, Reuben/Nevo at breakfast, Mwape with her ever smiling face and also Levison at reception who ensured we got all our rooms as we expected. My regards to Mr Gift also having seen him working for the hotel so many years.
The breakfast is amazing. The lunch/dinner menus need to be improved as they do not represent the hotel ( Service can be improved also as its too slow ).
Our 24 hour stay here due to a cancelled flight was horrendous. The service is the absolute worst, especially for the price. There were so many hiccups, I would run out of space here. I’ll start with the fact we expressed very clearly my father in law was vegetarian. His pasta had beef in it. I had a tour at 7am and called at 6am all the way through 7am for an iron. Nobody picked up. I went to the front desk and asked them to put it in my room when I got back. Surprise surprise, still no iron. I expressed all my concerns and disappointment to the front desk supervisor who gave me a blank stare and said “oh sorry”. This was a trip to bring my mother back to Zambia after 45 years since she was born here and to celebrate my wedding anniversary. What a huge disappointment! RL wants to charge American prices and give third world service. Also somehow helps to get better service if you’re skin color is white. Which blows my mind but it is what it is.
