How to Get There
Best spot in Zambia to watch the sun go down over the mighty Zambezi as it 'falls' to create the Victoria Falls ('the smoke that thunders' - the mist visible on the left). Great spot for a drink and if you get lucky, the hippos will come around in the river to add yet another surreal moment. Awe-inspiring, all of it!
When our travel agent,Go2Africa and Meg,booked us into a Colonial style hotel near the falls we were concerned. We did not know what to expect. After some research the decision was made and we are so glad we did.
The Royal Livingstone is right out of a movie. After being met at the Victoria Falls airport by a representative of Ilios Travel we were delivered to the Border of Zambia. There we crossed and were delivered to the hotel. As a note be sure to pay for a dual visa at the airport.
As we entered the grounds the first thing we saw were a group of Zebra and then several giraffes. Of course we were handed a cold towel and sone iced tea as we walked into the open lobby.
The rooms are very nice and somewhat dated. Fully functional. The bathrooms are just fine. We had a corner room that had a screened in porch to watch the Zambezi river and animals from.
My only observation that is not all positive is that the food at lunch and dinner needs some help. It is quite expensive and takes a long time to be served. You are somewhat captive at the hotel.
Overall I have to give high marks to the staff. We celebrated a big anniversary and they went all out.
Nicely appointed rooms in this excellent hotel. Food was quite nice and the grounds are spectacular. The zebras roam around as do the giraffes making this an "authentic" locale. Its proximity to the Falls is nice.
Visited the Royal Livingstone Hotel for and evening during our stay at the Avani. Can't comment on the experience of staying at the Royal Livingstone Hotel but the views of the Zambezi River from the hotel is spectacular and breathtaking.
The Royal Livingstone Hotel share the same grounds as the Avani Resort and to make life easy there is a 24/7 shuttle service between both resorts. You would also find that some activities start at the Royal Livingstone and other at the Avani.
The architecture of the hotel exeudes opulence and class. Stunningly beautiful hotel!
It was a joy to be able to stay so close to Victoria Falls and to enjoy the view of the Zambezi River and to watch the wild life (especially the hippos). We caught the feeding of the giraffes and zebras which was a magical experience.the hotel experience was lovely. we are glad we choice to stay here. We were on an extended stay in south Africa, Zambia and Botswana. we stayed at the Livingstone between safaris. It was like a resort break. We viewed the Falls and even crossed into Zimbabwe to see the famed view from the other side. As for activities we enjoyed the BOMA the first night, the steam train trip with dinner and the river safari. We had a great stay and it is highly recommended.
