What To Know

  • The resort sits in a "buffer zone" just outside Yala National Park; because of its location, the staff will escort guests to and from the restaurant and bar before dawn and after dusk
  • Hut 1 has the best view of the beach
  • You'll likely spot animals wandering the premises
  • WiFi is slow but that's to be expected in such a remote location

Breathtaking escape in Sri Lanka
Reviewed 6 days ago

Having chosen Chena Huts for our anniversary escape in Sri Lanka was the greatest idea we had!
We finally decided to keep the plans and get our 5 days break in Sri Lanka for the Eid holidays from 4 to 8 June. And really it was better than we could have imagine.
I would say that YES, it may be a bit expensive compared to other resort or complex in the area but YES it is definitely worth it when making the final bill. We just had airport transfer (40mn drive) and spa treatment as extra cost. Nothing else... Meals, drinks, food, entrance to the park and excursions are totally free and this is really a good value for money.

I definitely recommend a stay in Chena Huts for your next escape in Sri Lanka, especially if you want to be deeply emerged in the park, with direct access to it, in a luxury and amazing ambiance. Perfect for a honey moon, anniversary or just for the pleasure of discovering the beautiful peace of world that is Sri Lanka. Thanks again to our hosts and really hope to visit you soon.

The best part of our whole Sri Lankan holiday

The Chena Huts definitely exceeded our expectations. It is a splurge destination for sure, but accommodations include breakfast, lunch, dinner, mini-bar, and all drinks. Plus, they include two daily safari tours into Yala National Park.
The whole property is set along the rocky coast, a good 2-3km down a bumpy dirt path from the main road. You don't come to Chena Huts for nightlife, but to relax and enjoy the beauty (and wildlife) of Yala.
We stayed two nights, and went on four drives, which were all excellent. The resort guide was a zoologist and could answer any questions about the floral and fauna of the park. We were lucky enough to see multiple leopards, not to mention sloth bears, horn bills, jackals, mongoose, water buffalo, wild boars, and so much more. Plus, the resort is only a 15 minute drive from the gate to Yala, so no long drives to/from the park. The afternoon drive ended up with cocktails and snacks on the beach as the sun was setting.
Of course the villas, with private plunge pools, were incredible, and the food and service was top notch. The resort is not within a fenced off area, so many animals roam the grounds, especially at night. We saw monkeys, wild boars, and water buffalo, just walking to dinner.
We loved our stay so much, that we originally booked for only one night, but after experiencing the property and the safari drives, we knew we had to stay one more night!

Unbelievable. Once in a lifetime experience. Wow!

I don't even know where to begin my review of Chena Huts. Everything about our experience was first class. When we first walked into our villa we just looked at each other and giggled - we were so overcome by how amazing it is. The staff could not do enough for us. Our villa was incredibly spacious, our deck (with private pool) had a view of the ocean (which we could also see from our bed). The food was plentiful (almost too much) and delicious. I was also quite partial to the Spicy Martini. Our safari experiences were well organised and the wildlife we were able to see was amazing. We managed to see 2 leopards on our first drive. Talking to other visitors it sounds like we were very lucky in that respect. Our guide Nuwan was very informative and spoke outstanding English. Thank you to the entire team at Chena for making our stay so memorable.

We stayed in Chena Huts for 2 nights and I have to say it was the best experience we had on our Sri Lankan adventure!

The rooms are incredible, with a fantastic pool. Much bigger than we expected, given it was advertised as a dunk pool.

What makes this place so special is its staff and the small touches to ensure you have a fantastic time. The service we received was incredible from the moment we arrived to the very last moment we left...it was hard to say goodbye.

We went on 3 safaris with Jonny and had the best time. He had so much knowledge and made the trip for us! We saw leopards, many elephants & a sloth bear with cubs. Every night when we returned we were greeted with a g&t and some snacks on the beach!

Also massive shout our for ‘Jay’ - you were amazing! Look after this guy 👊🏻
