How to Get There
We were always looking forward to this part of our Sri Lankan tour the most. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we were in total awe and having stayed at many five star luxury boutique hotels around the world, we are not easily impressed.
This resort is next to the beautiful Indian Ocean and in Yala National Park buffer zone meaning elephants, leopards and lots of other animals could just arrive at the end of your terrace at any moment. The rooms are magnificent. They are spacious, in fact huge, with beautiful comfy oversized beds with plush bedding, a Jack and Jill bathroom with a large deep bathtub and some bath salts that are topped up daily right on your wine table (bliss) and the decked area outside overlooks the beach (some rooms) and the jungle and is private and secluded away from any other rooms. The mini bar and snacks are top quality and the plunge pool with bubbles outside is just the icing on the cake.
We did four safaris and were extremely lucky to see two leopards and two sloth bears which are even more rare than the leopards. We also saw two elephants, a dung beetle, lots of jackals, water buffalo, wild boar, birds and reptiles. If you are a lover of animals in the wild and happy in their own habitat, then this place will make you extremely happy !
The food is absolutely incredible ! If you are foodies then you won’t fail to be impressed. Ganesh (the head chef) went out of his way to make us some special food and chatted to us about the ingredients and how everything was made. He is an absolute inspiration and he has promised to email me a couple of recipes
to try at home.
Dulaj was our Waiter for two days and again he went out of his way to get us everything we wanted. The personal attention is just amazing and reflects the price you pay per night. This is the most expensive but best hotel in Sri Lanka ! Dulaj was a credit to Chena Huts and we hope to stay again and have him serve us.
The staff, surroundings, service, food and animals are some of the best we have encountered. We will be back but for a week next time !
Overal our stay was very pleasent. The staff was super nice, always ready to answear our requests and needs. We had always the same waiter during meals, who followed our stay and new our preferences. You feel you have a constant, exclusive and personal treatment.
Food was Ok; varied, tasteful and fresh.
The room was the highlight of the resort - beautifully furnished, clean, confortable; the private pool and the deck turns it into perfection.
That said, we found Chena Huts a little overpriced for what we got. For that price range and an all-inclusive resort, you expect other kind of perks. There is no room service available and the spa treatments are payed extra.
We were told not to use the beach because the sea is dangerous and wild animal encounters are frequent. This is a disappointment, specially when you pick a place precisely for being by the beach. Being inside a natural park, there is not much to do besides safaris and use the pool.
The food is very good but, again, for that kind of price you expect other standards of luxury dining.
We stayed in another Uga resort, pretty similar (or superior) in terms of room facilities and payed much much less.
In sum, I loved Chena Huts and would absolutely come back and recomment it, the downside being the price.
We have traveled around the world, we have stayed in so many places but this is the best out of everything.
Those who are seeking for a relaxing get away with a high class customer service plus luxurious and cozy rooms, this is the ideal place for them.
I should definitely mention their amazing food also.
Thank you very much Dulaj for the amazing service you gave us through out our stay. You just made us feel like we are your family. That was beyond expectations.
No doubts this is one of the best places in the world.
We highly recommend this place and we will be back soon.
