stayed multiple time in Galle Fort many a moon ago and heard from friends that the life goes on in there still the same.Still remember a helpful employee taking me up the amazing staircase and all the stories told by the staff of its fabulous history..in a world where we roll over nostalgia in order to pamper late 20st century generations its refreshing to note the stubborn arrogance of the place to take the guest in on its own terms..
My wife organised my birthday dinner here with the extended family during our Galle vacation. The staff were great, the food was amazing and the wine was absolutely fantastic. Every single detail was taken care of; and the birthday cake was delicious. The staff were courteous also to provide a temporary room for my infant nephew to sleep while we ate (it was past his bedtime!). Everything was handled most professionally.
They even managed to make a special dietary menu for my mom-in-law.. who has many food restrictions.
They really made our night special. Will happily go back there. Please do reserve in advance.
This was such a cool and unique hotel. It is quite small but beautiful and truly a special and historic place. My two friends and I stayed in their Library room which was absolutely amazing. It is one of the coolest rooms I've stayed in. It had such a historic/romantic/warm/welcoming vibe to it. The staff at this hotel were awesome and so friendly. They really cared about your experience and wanted to make sure you were enjoying yourself. Any questions we asked they were happy to answer and share their knowledge and information about the hotel and the Fort. The food here was absolutely amazing. This may sound random, but the yogurt I had for breakfast was the best yogurt I've ever had. For dinner I had a shrimp curry dish that was my favorite dish out of our entire trip. Just a really great experience staying here. I would highly recommend it. Oh and they had their, I think it was called Admiral room, they were preparing for honeymooners that were set to arrive and they let us peak in there because we were curious. Wow, just wow. Stunning room and they really went out of their way to make the room special for the arriving couple. The location of this place is perfect because you can walk all around the fort easily. The only thing is we asked them to recommend a jewelry place. They recommended this place right down the street, the name started with an A, I can't remember. But the jewelry here was insanely high prices and not the greatest quality stones. So I wouldn't recommend shopping for jewelry in the fort honestly. It was really overpriced. The only place we went to that was actually really good but still a bit overpriced was a placed called Mineral. The guys there were great and their stones were great, if not, again, overpriced.
But the hotel was wonderful, the staff really great and friendly, and the food was amazing. Would highly recommend staying here.
Staying in this hotel is a good choice to get a feeling of old colonial Galle. The hotel has been refurbished very nicely... in particular the lobby area and terrace which feels almost like stepping back 150 years. Afternoon tea, and happy hour on the terrace with live music are highlights. The staff are very polite and attentive.
The courtyard is also nice, although the pool is fine for a quick dip and nothing more, feeling a little more like a large pond with twigs/leaves from the overhanging trees. The rooms are reasonably well appointed, but do feel a little underwhelming for the price. We stayed in the loft room which is interesting but awkward for night time toilet visits and a light well that has no blinds to screen early morning daylight.
All things considered I would say this is a good choice for a brief stay, or to visit for food or drinks while you are in Galle.
