small number of rooms in extended old colonial building that was admin. centre, with swimming pool and garden for when the sun beats down and it is too hot to walk around.
great location , food excellent with service from all areas to match.

A joy to stay here

From the moment we arrived, at this hotel in the centre of Galle fortress we knew we had found a place we loved. The staff were fantastic., from our check in and the meeting with Chamara the assistant manager who was charm personified. He gave us the history of the hotel, outlined the facilities and gave us a map and detailed description of what to see and do within the fortress. Nothing was too much trouble for Chamara and his staff. We wanted to borrow an iron and board, it was delivered to the room immediately.

We had a suite on the first floor of this impressive building. Alll the furniture goes back to the 18 th century. The ground floor layout had sofas a table large vanity table with washbasin within it. A shower unit and a toilet. A staircase then took you to a galleried bedroom which contained a four poster bed, and wardrobe with safe unit.

This was a nostalgic pleasure staying here.
To top it off we had dinner which is a set menu and the food served was absolutely delicious.

If you are visiting Galle this would be a first choice for us every time. Chamara and his team made our stay one that will live long in the memory.

Beautiful, calm hotel in a historic building

Thoroughly enjoyed our three-night stay in one of the Loft Suites. Loved the building, sensitively restored and furnished; very friendly and helpful staff; great pool in a beautiful central courtyard, and excellent food.

Mixed Room Quality
Reviewed 6 days ago

2 of our party of 4 adults were "upgraded" to the loft room. Double bed upstairs and an open staircase leading to toilet and shower downstairs - both dingy, with black flies. Only washbasin was in a cupboard in the "lounge" (toilet and shower too small to accommodate a basin). We immediately complained to the manager, and asked to move to another room, but he said it was our fault because our travel agent had agreed to the "upgrade" and they were full. Very angry as the hotel had insisted we stay there 2 nights, with the second night including a very expensive New Year's Eve meal. Stayed in 5 hotels in Sri Lanka and this was the worst and most expensive.

Great restaurant, fine dining

Only visited for lunch - perfect gourmet set menu; colonial building and also by the pool; decent prices for what you get; kind service; no parking; free wi-fi; cream soup and prawns starter were delicious.
