How to Get There
My husband and myself took our 3 Sons and their families, being 11 of us on this Fiji holiday
On arrival we had a few hiccups sorting our room types out, as 1 of our Sons wanted a connecting room but had an adjoining room. The staff sorted it out by putting them in temporary room for 2 nights.
We have stayed at the Outrigger in Hawaii 3 times which is why we decided on this hotel.
We all found this hotel to be very expensive for food and drinks. And we were all a bit shocked to see that the government taxes were a bit steep being 3 different taxes?
We had to negotiate to get breakfast reduced as it wasn't included like many of the other offers I saw for this hotel.
We had to pay for wifi for our whole family, also not included in our holiday.
We also found this location to be a bit remote with nothing much to do.
You have to travel the 1 hour 20 minutes back to Denarau to do most things.
We had a trip to Sigatoka town to have a look and do some shopping which you have to pay for transport to do. none of us felt safe or comfortable walking around the town.
We originally were going to stay in Denarau as we had other family staying at the Westin in Denarau.
In hindsight we should've stayed there too.
Unfortunately Fiji is not the holiday we thought it was going to be.
The only plus is that we got to spend many precious hours with our wonderful family.
We recently got married at the outrigger and have absolutely zero complaints about our special day! The staff were helpful from start to finish. Months of back and forth emails were made easy and organising the day away from the resort was mostly stress free.
Our actual wedding day went perfectly with staff making sure we had everything we needed and at our reception no one went without a drink and staff danced with the guests! We highly recommend getting the dance and fire show as entertainment as our guests were incredibly surprised and excited by that! The outrigger went beyond our expectations for a relaxed and incredibly beautiful day!
We loved our stay at the Outrigger, from the activities to the food options to the friendliest staff we have ever met, you can't go wrong! The resort grounds are absolutely beautiful and the adult pool is a nice escape
This was our second time in Fiji and at the Outrigger. The first time was 5 years ago. It was the best holiday we had ever had so we decided to go back. We weren’t disappointed.
Check in was so quick and the staff member was so friendly and had a huge smile which told me we hadn’t make a mistake by coming back.
We stayed in a Plantation Bure which was large enough for my husband, 11 year old daughter and myself.
Our Talai Butler, Jonetani, came every afternoon with champagne and canapés. He was always smiling and had a wonderful sense of humour. We would chat about our day and ask him questions about Fiji and his family. He was so knowledgeable and willing to answer our endless questions. After we came back to our room after dinner Jonetani had turned down our beds and there was a nightcap and little dessert waiting for us along the with his latest mischievous added accessories to our daughters teddy bear.
Livia our housekeeper was amazing. Always smiling and up for a chat and willing to answer our questions. Our room was always clean and linen and towels freshly replaced.
The pool is huge and when the resort is full the pool isn’t over crowded. We could always find a pool lounge. The pool activities were entertaining and the poolside food and drink service great even on Fiji time. There was lots of food options, especially for the kids.
We ate at most restaurants at the resort. Sundowner was great we ate there twice. Amazing views looking over the beach and ocean as well as the sunsets. I had the beef cheeks and lobster pizza delicious. The staff are so friendly and happy. On our last night they sang a farewell song to us and gave us hugs.
The Ivy has the best food I have ever had. The staff made you feel like you were royalty. This is not a cheap place to eat but that’s what holidays are for.
Our daughter went to kids club most days (which she loved despite been the oldest) so we got to visit the adult only pool a few times which was lovely to relax in peace.
We were very sad to leave.
Vinaka for making our holiday the best holiday (again).
This was our first trip to Fiji and the Outrigger was recommended to us as a great place to stay. I have to say i was not overly impressed.
We had a deluxe ocean view room and i would rate it more a 3 star - the decor was dated, the bed was broken and the bathroom was tired. Don't get me wrong, everything was clean but not 5 star rated.
The accommodation rate, food prices and cocktails cost the same as they do in Australia - at times more expensive, however we never had a bad meal. the food, drinks, most of the staff, especially the guys down at activities we could not complain about
what disappointed me the MOST was... it is stipulated on arrival that you must tip the staff - now i have no problem tipping when a great service is provided but when a company is overcharging its customers, then demanding we tip to provide for their staff, while they pay them a pittance (and by pittance i mean $2.50-$3.00 per hour) - something is wrong !!!......pass on your profits to the staff who make your resort better than it actually is!!!
Safe to say i will not be returning to this resort or recommending it to anyone
