JW Marriott Dongdaemun did not hold up to its name and category

Came here with a friend of mine at the beginning of the month. We were immediately disappointed upon arrival (around 9PM) as there was no one to greet us at the door nor anyone to help us with our luggage. Definitely not the kind of service I was expecting from a 5-star hotel.

After checking in, we got to our room, which was very clean. The location was pretty convenient as others have suggested. Ample shops, restaurants, and things to do around the place.

Prior to my Seoul trip I was staying at another 5-star hotel in Shanghai, which made me that they over-rated hotels here in Seoul by at least 1-star.

The most disappointing part of the trip was towards the end, where we were misinformed by the hotel personal about their shuttle duration and almost missed our flight.

I'd not recommend as there are better options elsewhere in Seoul.

Convenient location

Hotel is near to the train station and the lines to the places we wanted to go were easily accessible.

We stayed in a deluxe double room with window panels facing the stream and shops. The night view was pretty awesome.

Breakfast was on the second level restaurant with a big variety. I like the restaurant as it was really spacious and when we went at around 10, it was not crowded. I had Korean food for breakfast on all the days. The juices didn't suit me which I was a little disappointed. Had tea and water instead. We had dinner one evening at the same restaurant and it was mediocre.

I would recommend this hotel for it's location. Other than that, it is a regular hotel and nothing special about it.

JW Marriott, the one at Dongdaemun Square, missed my Platinum status

This JW at Dongdaemun is not nearly has nice and personable as the JW Seoul just across the river that I had stayed in the month previously. As I was checking in I was distracted by talking to colleagues also checking in. It seemed like a very small dark room for Platinum status and I noticed that the information sheet was general, not for Platinum status, which everyone knows the lounge is important. I went to the front desk and they only smiled and said 'oh we had a computer glitch, sorry you're right, here's the information sheet for Platinum status.' I then went directly to dinner with colleagues, and was expecting when I had returned to get an upgraded room, extra bonus points or at least a nice dessert/wine waiting for me in my room. I did not make a big deal out of it because I was only there 1 night. However, because I had to point out the error and the staff seemed dismissive, I will certainly favor the JW across the river. I pointed out this out to the front staff guy and he said, 'oh it's not new, it's just recently renovated', as if the 2 JW's were in some sort of competition. Well, in my opinion the one across the river wins hands-down.
