Overview

Boutique sleep in the boho-chic barrio of San Telmo, offering streamlined décor and a hotspot restaurant

The Lowdown

Cheekily billing itself as “heterofriendly,” this boutique player seeks to provide an open, inclusive environment in which guests can either take a break from the city’s hectic pace or throw themselves into the social scene. The heated rooftop pool, with its transparent bottom, is a highlight: it’s visible from most parts of the hotel, including the foyer. The fitness center offers a water circuit, solarium and a range of massages from Thai to deep tissue. Kitchen restaurant, meanwhile, is a colorful, laid-back social hub for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

In the Area

Don’t leave town without checking out Calle Caminito in the nearby La Boca neighborhood, a cobblestone street lined with haphazard, brightly painted houses and famous for its talented tango dancers, who perform for appreciative onlookers. Get lost at the fabulous MAMBA (Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires), which houses a comprehensive collection of Latin American art. Have a replica of Evita Peron’s jewelry made by silversmith-to-the-stars Marcelo Toledo, the only jeweler authorized by the famous First Lady’s estate. Skip the ubiquitous steakhouses for something more inventive at El Baqueano, where you can sample exotic meats like quail, hare and alligator.

My luggage was stolen. Avoid this hotel
randalltate

I stayed at this hotel in 2011 when it was called Axel. Things have changed significantly. It is now falling apart and very shabby. We spent one night here in transit and made the horrendous mistake of leaving our luggage in storage with them. When we returned two weeks later to spend two more nights in B.A., we were told that the luggage had been stolen at gun point. As you can imagine, this was devastating. I immediately suspected that the hotel staff had simply created the story and had stolen our luggage themselves. The hotel did nothing to improve our stay; no upgrade, no refund, no reimbursement for my belongings. The manager brought me to the police station to file a report and told me he would contact me when he heard from the insurance company. It has been three weeks and I have heard nothing, despite sending them repeated emails. This only goes to strengthen my suspicions.

Beware of this hotel. The staff told me they had been robbed multiple times. If that is true, it is not secure and you should look elsewhere or keep your belongings with you at all times. Shame on me for trusting a hotel.

Very good

The hotel was very nicely designed. The rooms are big, the bed very large and extremely comfortable! The price is extremely competitive for the the quality. Some maintenance would be needed as it would be a shame to see the hotel deteriorate.
Swimming pool indoor and outdoor available. Very friendly and helpful staff at the 24h reception. Wifi all around though weak in the room.

Good location, inexpensive

Good location, great friendly staff. Beds where a bit hard for our liking, woke up every morning with a sore back. Only one pillow per person, paper thin. Room cleaned every day. If breakfast is not included in price don't pay, not worth it.! $15 US dollars per person for pretty much scrambled eggs.. But good scrambled eggs. Not $15 worth though..
A little out dated but if you are looking for cheap accommodation with helpful staff this is the place.
