Luxurious suites, an award-winning spa, and an emphasis on service make this beachfront resort a stand-out option in the Caribbean

The Lowdown

A six-acre stretch on Anguilla’s Shoal Bay East is the glorious white-sand-and-turquoise-water setting for the first luxury resort on this end of the island. Zemi has the advantage of pristine beaches and fabulous sea views, and the luxury of the 69 rooms and suites encourages some serious lounging. The resort’s design was nominally inspired by the indigenous Arawak people—there are dark wood accents and sand-colored stone everywhere—although the best feature of the spacious and comfortable rooms is the light filtering through the floor-to-ceiling glass doors that lead to the balcony, which illuminates the soft neutral palette. The high-quality, cushioned rattan furniture on the spacious balconies (every room has one) is another perk, perfect for reading a book, napping, or staring out to sea. The resort has an award-winning spa, where Anguilla’s only hammam is built in a 300-year-old Thai house, and two restaurants, plus a sand-floored cocktail bar and a tasting room that specializes in single-origin rums.

In the Area

With the resort’s fabulous pools and spectacular patch of beach, you’d be forgiven for never leaving, but there’s still plenty to do nearby. There are boat excursions to other islands like St. Barts, snorkeling around the coral reef and other water sports organized by the Shoal Bay Beach Club, plus hiking trails that span the island. Stroll down the beach to Gwen’s Reggae Bar and Grill, a beach bar known for Caribbean staples like barbecued ribs, best washed down by a rum punch. History buff? Check out nearby archeological sites such as Big Spring and Fountain Caverns, home to remnants of ancient Taino groups, or learn more about Anguilla’s history at the Heritage Collection Museum.

Just right. Hope Hilton keeps it special.

Small boutique like, rarely more than 20 people on the beach
Beautiful beach, rock structures, beautiful colored waters, gentle tide, soft white sand that never gets hot.
Close to several lunch spots on the beach
Breakfast included was a nice touch
Great single serve espresso coffee maker in room in room.
Free bottled water for regular hydration.
Nice atmosphere.
Friendly staff.
Good food options and kid friendly.
Evening events such as Wednesday Caribbean grill buffet and manager social.
Pool (heated) was great for everyone to cool in the shade (didn’t use adult pool).
Lap pool (20yd) and gym available (I didn’t use either).
Spacious rooms.
Kids club was relaxing.
Overall family friendly.
Each building does have an elevator
minibar items reasonably priced.

Windows need cleaning to maintain beautiful view.
Beds were a bit firm for us.
Most rooms are in 4 floor towers set behind facilities (not on ocean front) and up a decent paved slope to access from beach. My wife had knee surgery in January and navigated it well and it was good for some exercise. But once we left in the morning we didn’t go back until it was time to clean up for dinner.
Bar area could use some ventilation. In the evening it seems a little stuffy when having a night cap.

Building 2 or 4 if not in the beach front suites.
Cash for tips, people don’t ask and act as if not anticipated but appreciated
Plan your stay and then add 3 nights!
Frankly it was so pleasant we didn’t venture out much at all.
Keep it special.

Amazing Time / Beautiful Resort

I really cannot add any more adjectives to this place that haven’t been said already. Our family of four visited Zemi Beach last month and this place is incredible. The food was delicious, the drinks were incredible and their staff was the best. Thank you Zemi Beach for making our stay awesome.

We went for 4 days for our 10th anniversary and got the Celebration Suite (rooftop plunge pool). We cannot say enough good about this hotel. It is beautiful, clean, and just total perfection. The roof top pool is completely private and a beautiful area to lounge. The ocean view from up there as well as our from actual room underneath with the balcony is breathtaking. The beach is so quiet, and they provide you with water bottles in ice, towels, etc. The snorkeling equipment was good (and the snorkeling right there is great) and the glass bottom kayak was a lot of fun. When we went to play tennis (prettiest court I've ever seen), they had little towels already set up next to a cooler with water bottles. And when we went to Little Bay to snorkel for the day (they let us sign out 2 of their snorkel sets to take with us), they had a beach bag with towels and water bottles at the front desk ready for us to take. We had thought we would travel around the island more that week, but honestly didn't even want to once we got to Zemi, because how much better could it get? One more thing to point out - we have dietary restrictions that they knew about before we came and they were extremely accommodating. We can't wait to go back!
