Luxurious suites, an award-winning spa, and an emphasis on service make this beachfront resort a stand-out option in the Caribbean

The Lowdown

A six-acre stretch on Anguilla’s Shoal Bay East is the glorious white-sand-and-turquoise-water setting for the first luxury resort on this end of the island. Zemi has the advantage of pristine beaches and fabulous sea views, and the luxury of the 69 rooms and suites encourages some serious lounging. The resort’s design was nominally inspired by the indigenous Arawak people—there are dark wood accents and sand-colored stone everywhere—although the best feature of the spacious and comfortable rooms is the light filtering through the floor-to-ceiling glass doors that lead to the balcony, which illuminates the soft neutral palette. The high-quality, cushioned rattan furniture on the spacious balconies (every room has one) is another perk, perfect for reading a book, napping, or staring out to sea. The resort has an award-winning spa, where Anguilla’s only hammam is built in a 300-year-old Thai house, and two restaurants, plus a sand-floored cocktail bar and a tasting room that specializes in single-origin rums.

In the Area

With the resort’s fabulous pools and spectacular patch of beach, you’d be forgiven for never leaving, but there’s still plenty to do nearby. There are boat excursions to other islands like St. Barts, snorkeling around the coral reef and other water sports organized by the Shoal Bay Beach Club, plus hiking trails that span the island. Stroll down the beach to Gwen’s Reggae Bar and Grill, a beach bar known for Caribbean staples like barbecued ribs, best washed down by a rum punch. History buff? Check out nearby archeological sites such as Big Spring and Fountain Caverns, home to remnants of ancient Taino groups, or learn more about Anguilla’s history at the Heritage Collection Museum.

Excellent beach hotel

We spent two weeks at the Zemi Beach. It is a wonderful hotel. Very nice rooms. Charming and consistently helpful staff. A great location right on fabulous Shoal Bay Beach. Plentiful breakfast buffet included. Lots of seating both by the two pools and on the beach. Attentive staff to help at all times. A great spa. It is not cheap but it was a great holiday. The menu in the restaurant is not too varied. There are plenty of good restaurants on the island but taxi fares are pricey. It might be worth hiring a car.

Nice Place

I stayed at the resort for 6 days. Had a room with an Ocean View. The hotel grounds and rooms are beautiful. The staff is very kind and most accommodating. The breakfast buffet in the morning is excellent and better than 99% of what one normally experiences in a “free” buffet.

I ate most evenings at the pool bar. Very good food. The staff recognized me after the first day and treated me excellent. If you stay here - plan on eating at the hotel. There is a lunch place down the beach but nothing else in walking distance. I did ask for a cab to run to a bodega. Was charged $30.00. There isn’t a gift shop so you must purchase beverages a la carte from your mini bar or a hotel restaurant/bar.

Zemi beats the Ritz

Usually I sit on reviews for a few weeks, sometimes to gain perspective on the experience, to hear the favorite memories of my wife and daughters, and honestly just due to simple laziness because the hotel wasn’t memorable.
There was no need for waiting, I was very eager and excited to write this review at the earliest possible opportunity upon our return on March 16th from Zemi.
Zemi is a gem, the amenities, location are amazing, HOWEVER the staff and managers are what truly make this a remarkable standout. Beautiful decor, location, and amenities can all be bought, pride in where you work and what you do cannot. As business owners my wife and I make every attempt to point out to our daughters remarkable above and beyond service- after just one day there was no need to keep pointing these out, there were abundant examples all around us. We met most of all the managers at some point, they always came over and said hello to our young daughters, wife, and I, & always asked how our stay had been and if we had any needs or questions. We had the privilege to meet Paulo, Frank, Jen, Mark, Lisa, Denise, & Tiago. I could speak volumes about how this resort surpasses the ‘Ritz-Carlton’ experience. My wife and I not only want to return to Anguilla but most of all Zemi at the end of this year. Below are a few pointers:

You must try the Rhum room, I had the joy of doing the premier flight, and learning about all the many rums, Tiago has an amazing knowledge base on liquors and is a super nice guy. I returned two more times to try other rums under his advice and smoke a cigar- it was a fantastic experience.

From an architectural standpoint, the place is absolutely gorgeous and minimalistic while still letting the charm of the Caribbean shine through in all it does.

Get beach chairs on the left when facing the ocean, the right has coral which causes variations in depth.

Go into the pool once with a beverage of choice and hang out by the end of infinity edge looking out to sea.

The Wednesday Caribbean barbecue was well done, the food overall at the two restaurants was very good, was it the best on the island, no. You can see my other reviews on Veya, Straw Hat, Madeirmans, and Sunshine shack.

The accommodations are very nice, modern, and all the rooms are cleaned impeccably.

My wife and i have never vacationed at the same place twice, this year we return to the Amafli coast and very possibly Anguilla, specifically Zemi.

Well done to all the staff and managers- thank you for a most amazing family vacation

A truly unique and special place...

Zemi Beach has been the recipient of multiple awards over the last year and there is a reason for this. The resort itself is immaculate and beautifully maintained. The property is well looked after and exudes quality and style combined with a simplistic Caribbean feel - I loved the stunning driftwood chandelier in reception.

The food and drink at the restaurant 20 Knots is delicious and of the highest quality, especially the breakfast buffet where everything is freshly prepared and beautifully presented.

While the ambience of the place is relaxed and friendly, it's clear that behind the scenes a lot of hard work is going on. Which brings me to the greatest thing about Zemi Beach: the staff. They make you feel like one of the family, the only guest at the hotel. They know your name after the first day and treat you like a longtime friend.

I can't recommend Zemi Beach highly enough. It is truly a unique resort on a unique island.
