One of Crete’s more upscale resort destinations, with a growing international reputation, Elounda boasts Blue Flag beaches, crystal-clear waters and an array of quality restaurants, tavernas and shops. It’s fast becoming a playground for the giltterati; famous visitors include Leonardo DiCaprio, U2 and Lady Gaga.
Sitting like a gleaming white beacon on a peaceful hillside just outside the town and boasting lovely sea views over silvery olive groves, Elounda Krini Hotel is a perfect fit for the area. It’s recently undergone a complete renovation and exudes an intimate, boutique feel. Rooms are spread over two buildings, and you can relax on your own balcony and take in the panoramic vista of the bay and the mountains.
There’s a generously proportioned swimming pool with plenty of sun loungers and and umbrellas. If you prefer a dip in the sea, it’s only a short stroll down to a small, unspoiled beach. A short walk along a coastal path will take you into town, where you can pick and choose between restaurants and tavernas. The uninhabited island of Spinalonga sits across the water from Elounda, and there are regular boat trips to explore its beaches and historic fortress.
Newly renovated Superior rooms are tastefully furnished, with clean white decor. Roomy private balconies have beautiful views over the olive trees, toward a lagoon and the sea beyond.
The restaurant offers great spread of a buffet breakfast, with Greek yogurt, eggs, freshly squeezed orange juice and more. Lunch is served at your table, with traditional favorites like moussaka and Greek salad. Dinner comes in a buffet form, with daily changing dishes.
The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from Elounda, in a quiet location near the beach, overlooking the calm blue Gulf of Mirabello and Spinalonga island. The ruins of the ancient town of Olous lie close by, and you can also visit the Basilicas of Poros and view its fabulous mosaic, and see exquisite white marble at Koloktha. The larger resort of Agios Nikolaos sits six miles to the south and shows off a good entertainment scene, including a theatre and cinema, plus lively nightlife. Excursions can easily be made to Latos and Gournia archaeological site.
How to Get There
Just back from a fabulous 10 days in the Krini hotel. Okay it's basic rooms but totally adequate for a sunshine break as you are on the balcony most of the time. The beds are comfortable with a fantastic shower pressure which I find very important. High standard of cleanliness in the room and through out the hotel. Room cleaned daily with fresh towels and complementary shampoo etc. The view from most of the rooms are amazing looking over the bay, a site you would never tire from.
The breakfasts were great with cold buffet or cooked eggs etc as and when. Coffee was on tap and very nice as was a variety of juices served by vey polite and friendly staff. Lunchtime food was again fresh and cooked to order at very reasonable prices. The pool area is open and clean with a fabulous pool for Cooling off.
All in all the staff are very accommodating nothing is too much trouble. I'm so glad we chose this hotel OK a wee bit of a walk but totally worth it for the view. We enjoyed walking most of the way along the waters edge looking at the various bars and restaurants.
A real diamond of a hotel.
Thank you for a brilliant stay we will be back.
Great small hotel, with very friendly and helpful staff.
Spotlessly clean, with both towels and bed linen changed daily. Our bedroom was small, but perfectly adequate, though the bathroom, as other reviews have noted, felt very cramped.
Breakfast offered a good selection, with hot dishes cooked to order.
The gifts on arrival and departure were a nice touch.
The Krini is only a 10-15 minute walk from the centre of Elounda but, if you need a taxi, reception will order one and it's there in a couple of minutes.
I thought it offered excellent value for money, and would stay again.
Another wonderful stay at the hotel. This time a birthday celebration with freinds. Warm welcome to everyone by Krystyna making you feel like family.
All the staff here are so very pleasant and always smiling. They are all so efficient and nothing is too much trouble. Lovely birthday surprise of a cake & champagne - such a thoughtful touch.
As always hotel, outside areas & pool are spotlessly clean every day
Breakfast is a must - a lot of choice to suit everybody and the cooked breakfast is done to order & is lovely as is the evening meal if you choose to eat at the hotel - compliments to Mimosa the cook!!!
This is our 4th visit and every time we are not disappointed the standards are kept very high the whole time, year after year and although the hotel was busy there is still a peacefullness about it which is very relaxing.
We wouldnt dream if staying anywhere else.
Thank you so much Krystyna,Fragoulis & all the EKH team for making our stay & birthday celebration such a wonderful one to remember. We had a fantastic week, see you next year.
Lovely small hotel, perfectly formed with modern decor. Great breakfasts including cooked options.
Peaceful pool area, with bar and lunch available.
Room was very nice and super clean, tiny bathroom. Balcony with sea view.
10 mins walk into Elounda, taxi back 6 euros.
Very enjoyable stay.
The staff make this small hotel, the night porter even served us a drink when we arrived at 2 am!! Breakfast was really good although another coffee machine would be a bonus.
Everywhere was kept very clean and the pool area was very inviting.
The only downside was that our room was right by reception and the cleaners cupboard
and was very noisy. A properly fitted solid door would do much to alleviate this Would visit again but not in that room.
