How to Get There
This is my 6th visit to Singapore and first/last time staying with Shangri-La. I feel there are properties that offer better service for same or less price.
—The property is very large with a nice pool, large rooms and large balcony.
—Housekeeping service was excellent!
—Concierge was knowledgeable and helpful
—Breakfast buffet is very large with variety and as such, it is very average in quality.
We arrived as part of a family (12 adults) vacation package and we all had average service.
—Upon check-in, room requests (queen beds v. Twin beds) incorrectly allocated. I was given escort to my tower, others in my group were not.
—There was confusion at check out, our entire group was to be given complimentary 4pm checkout as part of our holiday package. Some had it in their profile some didn’t and had to argue to have it.
—Before arriving, my wife and I decided to extend our holiday by two days and for convenience continue with Shangri-La. First night of our extension after being out all day, the property wiped our cards and access to our rooms. So we had to go back to front desk to get new keys. Not what I would call friendly or above average service.
—My wife and I were bothered our first two nights with calls and messages saying there was a problem with my credit card. Each time I had to go to the front desk to present my card and show them that the hotel had a ‘pending authorisation’ and that their system was wrong.
—Our Garden view room was dated. Needs an upgraded entertainment tv system like other hotels in this category. Lighting is poor and controls confusing. The balcony door didn’t lock. The noise from the tennis courts below was constant.
We stayed here twice in August last year on the way from the UK to Australia and again on the return journey, each time for 2 nights. We travelled with our 2 children, aged 11 and 9 and we all loved it, we all still talk about it. We had a room upgrade on our first stay, we had booked two interconnecting rooms and were upgraded to the 9th floor to the family floor where we had a family suite. Our room led through to a safari themed children's room which would sleep 3 children. There was one canopy bed, made to look like a safari tent with a pull out trundle underneath and another bed that pulled down from the wall. There were safari murals on the wall and you could also enter the room through a tiny cupboard door in the main bedroom (a special entrance just for children!). It was magical and a good job we stayed 2 nights so the children could each get a night in the canopy bed otherwise there would have been trouble! There were two bathrooms, kids one was fully stocked with products, nappies etc should you have needed them for little kids and a bath instead of a shower. We loved the buffet for breakfast and ate in the same restaurant on one of our evenings. The food was great and it was great being able to try different things, especially for the children, they had noodles and curry for breakfast amongst the normal fruit, cereal toast and the odd donut! We also ate in the Italian restaurant, I can't remember its name but the pizza there was great. There is a bakery in the lobby with sandwiches etc which is useful if you have jet lag and want food at funny hours!
The pool was great, big enough for everyone with deep and shallow parts, the only problem was having to get out when there was a storm with lightening forecast!
It was an easy walk to the metro on Orchard Road, we walked down there a couple of times to get around and found it all really straightforward and easy.
In a nutshell you won't regret staying here!
We stayed at Shangri-La Valley Wing for 5 nights. As return guests of the Valley Wing, we are well accustomed to the impeccable service of the staff and our experience on this occasion was no different. Nicole was fantastic at check in and servers Carlito and Khair were friendly and attentive.
A facial and massage at Chi The Spa is a relaxing way to spend an hour or two. The spa facilities and treatment rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff are so friendly and welcoming.
Although the Valley Wing has been a favourite of ours when visiting Singapore, we note the following observations from our recent visit.
• The breakfast menu (in the Summit room) could be improved by offering a broader selection of food on the buffet, although the hot food options are good and cooked to order.
• The rooms (which are spacious) would benefit from a refresh, similar to the improvements made to the Tower Wing.
• In room entertainment is limited. A smart TV with a broader selection of programs would provide better viewing when staying in the room.
• On this visit, the majority of guests in the Valley Wing were older couples. Although we are not of the same generation, we prefer the quiet charm of the Valley Wing but enjoy the option of going to the Tower Wing lobby for a drink which has a more lively atmosphere.
Overall our experience at the Valley Wing has been enjoyable, primarily due to the service of the staff and the exclusive privileges afforded to guests of the Valley Wing (namely the afternoon tea, canapés and drinks in the Champagne bar).
For discerning travellers, Shangri-La Valley Wing is well worth considering given the faultless service provided and the exclusive privileges on offer. However, a refresh of the rooms will make a stay at the Valley Wing a must.
The minute you are greeted by the staff outside (quite the uniforms) and escorted inside by other completely professional staffers you know you are in good hands. Efficient check in , beautifully appointed room with all amenities, fantastic pool and grounds- what else: close proximity to Orchard street shopping...easy walk.
The hotel is stunning and has so much to offer for couples and families! The gym was especially good!
My partner and I were lucky enough to have one of the club rooms where we could access the Horizon club, highly recommend that if you can afford it, the canapé and drinks period fro. 5-8pm was fantastic and especially great if you love nice wine as Alcohol is so expensive in Singapore!
