How to Get There
We enjoyed ourselves so much in 2013/14 we returned to celebrate my sister's Birthday. Our room overlooked the garden and was breathtaking. What a wonderful time we had and the Valley Wing staff made my sister's Birthday enjoyable and a day we will always remember. They are truly exceptional. When returning from a day's outing they welcome us home. When cleaning our room they are so discreet and very rarely seen or heard. When tempting us at breakfast they provide further options not on the menu. Evening drinks (champagne or a wide selection of still wine and cocktails, teas and coffee) in the Valley Wing with canapes and Khristina playing the harp is truly an experience not to be missed.
The dress code has been modified in the last 5 years to smart casual, keeping up with a more relaxed dress code worldwide. It's still lovely though to put on a nice dress in the evening, to sit and enjoy the atmosphere, beautiful artwork, chandeliers and staff in tailcoats.
Thank you Shangri-La and in particular all who work in the Valley Wing. We hope to see you again in the future.
We enjoyed 5 nights of luxury in this magnificent hotel, with a great view from our 11th floor widow, looking out over the city and down to the gorgeous swimming pool. This was great for our family (grandchildren) who used both the indoor and outdoor play areas: pirate ship with water canons, and indoor ball pool and climbing cage.
Our grandson called it "Granny's house", and for us it certainly felt like home from home.
We stayed here for 4 nights and found the facilities and room excellent and very clean as ever with the staff at Shangri-La hotels the staff were excellent.
Room for improvements concerns breakfasts the food is not kept hot enough and plates were cold. The best way to get hot food was at the stations where food was cooked to order and get your own coffee the waiters brought tepid at best but get your own it is piping hot. The food selection is fantastic but attention to keeping it hot is essential. The decor in the dining area was not to my personal taste. The ASEAN military conference proved somewhat of an inconvenience with the extra security armed police and army security checkpoints concrete blocks and CCTV a little alarming and whilst the hotel tried to keep things going an uncomfortable feeling marred our stay.
On this trip, celebrating a milestone birthday with family and friends from all around the world, we chose to stay at the Shangri La Apartments (adjacent to the wonderful Shangri La Hotel in Singapore).
As a frequent visitor to both the Hotel (Tower Wing, Garden Wing and the very exclusive Valley Wing) we knew what to expect in terms of great accommodation, hospitality, professionalism, efficiency, tasty food but most of all the friendliness of all staff. Of course we were not let down.
How lovely to return to a place where staff who previously greeted your young children (Hotel Pool people Raymond and Bernard) now greet the younger generation (5 year old grandson). Satay by the pool (Hotel) - as delicious as ever. The culinary Gift Shop Shophouse in the Lobby of the Tower Wing is well worth a visit = home baked bread/cakes and such lovely gifts.
My big birthday celebration was at The Line Restaurant – all arrangements and special requests handled so well by Ms Crystal Wong – Line Management. Huge thank you to her and the Line Team, not forgetting Chefs Dean and Isaac.
When my daughter and grandson and I return for four days at the end of this month we may have time to try out Buds – an amazing interactive and huge Kids Zone (I’m sure we will not be disappointed). Can’t wait to get back.
I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights as part of a "staycation" with my wife and 3 children. I had booked 2 inter-connecting Tower Wing Deluxe Rooms (One King and One Twin Room, with an extra bed) however upon check-in we were advised that the room could not accommodate an extra bed as there was not enough space. No bother, the check-in staff apologized for the miss-understanding and gave us a complimentary upgrade to two interconnecting Garden Wing Deluxe Room, which could accommodate the extra bed. A very nice gesture and very much appreciated. The hotel is everything you'd expect from a Shangri-La, smart, luxurious and very tranquil - sat by the pool, you'd never know you were in the middle of a bustling city. The breakfast buffet was awesome - it had everything you could possibly want at breakfast and then some! The mark of any hotel is the quality and professionalism of the staff and the Shangri-La Singapore doesn't disappoint. They were exceptional - kind, friendly and nothing too much of an effort. My only criticism would be the Kids Club. Although the facilities of the kids club were impressive - indoor play areas, cooking classes with an outdoor kids pool and splash area etc. I was very surprised that hotel guests have to pay SGD24 (I think!) per child for the kids to utilize the facilities where I also recall that the time was limited. This seems incredibly steep and completely unnecessary where at other Shangri-La hotels that I have stayed at, my kids have used the Kids Club and Facilities without charge. That aside, our stay at the hotel was fantastic and very relaxing and we would definitely stay there again.
