How to Get There
This is a beautiful resort and in most respects I really enjoyed our stay there. However there were a couple of related issues that led me to decide on a four star rating instead of five. First, there are lot of tiny biting insects everywhere after the sun goes down. You really can't be outside in the evening without insect repellant, and they want $6 for the bottle of repellant in the room. It's a small thing but at the price point of these rooms I thought it should have been comped given that you literally can't go outside without it. Especially since the one restaurant by the pool is open air so you are essentially eating outdoors. And because there are so many, be aware that some of them are also inevitably going to get inside your room as well. I ended up with quite a few bug bites. The other related issue is the noise of the cicadas and other insects at night. The place is beautifully landscaped around rice paddies but all that water is an insect haven and it is very very loud at night. My wife and I both had to wear earplugs in order to sleep. It is very lovely place but be aware of the bug situation, especially if you are sensitive to that kind of thing.
Beautiful resort crafted in the fashion of a traditional Cambodian village. Genuine rice fields in the grounds, their own rice is served in some dishes ! Plus a couple of water buffalo tend to the grass. The rooms are all designed to reflect the traditional stilt houses built to accommodate high water levels.
Very high quality fixtures and bedding throughout, comfortable and a great nights sleep. Our private guide , a Siem Reap local , was so impressed he started taking photos !
The staff are without exception superb and friendly and the food in both restaurants excellent - hard to pick out everyone for a mention but Hainan and Sroeb (excuse the spelling from memory) were always very attentive and smiley !
We stayed 5 nights at Phum Baitang and can’t find even one tiny thing we did not like. Our terrace villa was private, beautifully designed and stunningly appointed. Everything in this resort is thoughtful - from the design to the landscape to the food to the service. The generosity of the grounds creates a serene escape from the bustle of Siem Reap and temple visits. Staff are flawlessly trained and always kind and smiling. We followed recommendations for dining and tours and were never disappointed. Our stay was beautifully and discreetly curated. Breakfast was the richest selection I have ever experienced, in beautiful surroundings. We had several meals at the hotel, and wonderful sundown cocktails. The pool is perfection. Stay here, you will not be disappointed. We will certainly return, and Zannier has gained a pair of loyal followers. We look forward to visiting their other properties. Thank you for a most wonderful and joyful stay.
From the moment you arrive, then bicycle to your individual villa, gracious staff and stunning decor - you won’t ever want to leave! The smiling faces of all the staff as well as the lush green rice paddy surroundings makes this an authentic Cambodian experience. It’s located only 10 minutes from the hustle & bustle of town so it’s just the perfect place to stay!
We stayed for 4 nights in July. It was brilliant, we didn't want to leave. Service was superb, from pre-arrival to departure; Flawless. Leny from reservations, Harold (who we didn't have a pleasure of meeting), Hon Ley and Minea were extremely professional. The villa assigned to us was exactly what we were expecting. Most of the times, we knew exactly what we wanted and they were able to deliver without fail. For the things we didn't know, they gave excellent recommendations. At first we thought we would dine out all the time, but once we had a taste of the food from Hang Bay, we were hooked. We tried Bay Phsar the night after and it was fantastic. Nothing outside of the hotel was able to beat what was served to us at Phum Baitang - not even the candle lit private romantic dinner outside. Even food from room service was great! I found out later that, Phanmai, the waitress who took care of us throughout our stay told chefs that we were from Thailand and so they adjusted the taste a little. Whatever they did, it kept us going back night after night. The tour that the hotel arranged was good, the guide really knew the hidden serene sites where we got to snap nice photos and the stories he told were fascinating.
If I have to share one thing that could be improved, it would be the smell from the pipe of the bathtub in our villa which we found on of the nights. However, the staff swiftly assisted even though it was very late at night and it wasn't a big deal. Phum Baitang is on our "must recommend" list when anyone mentions Siem Reap. We will be delighted to return to this beautiful property again.
