How to Get There
We visited this property for three days and loved it. The grounds were impeccably designed in the style of a traditional Cambodian village from another era. The staff were very kind and helpful. We never grew tired of just walking the property drinking in the sight, sounds and aroma. Food was really great across the board.
Outstanding! My wife and I picked Phum Baitang for it’s luxury & quiet setting.....we were not disappointed. The level of service was excellent with all staff being very attentive & helpful, but never in our way. The villa was luxurious, if I had one criticism it would be that the lighting in the bathroom was not great & it was difficult to see in the mirror when shaving. The food in the restaurants was of a high quality and the setting among the rice fields was very tranquil. The remorque rides into the town were $10 return & were very good. Our driver Ousa, was very careful on the roads and considerate of bumps. We had a wonderful 2 days there and will definitely be returning for longer next time.
Having spent 3 weeks touring Vietnam and Cambodia, we ended our trip at Phum Baitang.
Our instant reaction was, WOW!
This place is absolutely stunning and embraces local culture, tradition and pairs this alongside high end service. We loved the fact that we could spend the evening watching the buffalos from our balcony.
The pool, food, drinks were all top notch and we have nothing but good things to say about the staff during our relatively short stay. This is certainly on our go back to list!
If you want a little piece of luxury whilst in Siem Reap then this is the one for you!
Arriving at the hotel compound, I was immediately blown away. The hotel is essentially a (super high-end) village replica- including villas on stilts, rice fields, oxen, etc. All very impressive, and providing a very unique and relaxing environment. I made use of the spa, gym and pool, and found all to be first rate. The staff all spoke very fluent English, and were extremely attentive and helpful. Having informed them of my vegetarian diet, I found the restaurant staff (without me having identified myself/ my villa number, much less prompting them) proactively providing me with no-meat dishes. Last but not least, I accidentally left some jewellery in my villa safe, and only discovered this upon boarding a flight to Phnom Penh. I called the staff, and they had my item delivered to me the following morning!
Visiting Angkor Wat and the sister temples was a life-long dream, but we knew that even in the low season, crowds would be unavoidable and temperature/humidity levels would be high. Consequently, we sought a resort that would provide maximum comfort and enjoyment for our afternoons and evenings when the "work" of sightseeing was done. Phum Baitang proved to be the perfect choice which surpassed all expectations. It truly deserves its five-star reputation in terms of accommodations, cuisine, and service.
Upon entering Phum Baitang, one is immediately struck by the natural beauty that the designers of this place have created. One may raise an eyebrow as the transport takes you off the paved road onto a country lane leading into a developing area somewhat on the outskirts of Siem Reap. Soon, a walled compound comes into view; the vehicle's horn is honked, and the gates open to reveal Phum Baitang's idyllic village -- a small bit of paradise unto itself. Lush plantings are arranged around the fence, with 45 villas arching around the perimeter. However, the center of the property is replete with expansive rice fields, palm trees, and even two resident water buffalo. The property is impeccably maintained and watered, contributing to its stunning green appearance. Tourist to this resort are surely snapping photos inside the resort, in addition to Siem Reap's many standard attractions. Take a moment to breath in the peace and calm of this beautiful place.
Initial positive impressions of the resort are enhanced by the graciousness of the young and friendly staff. From the reception staff (Chantrea and Mao among others) to the restaurant/bar staff (David and his team) to the house staff, everyone we encountered went out of their way to ask if there was anything we needed or whether they could do anything further to make our stay more enjoyable. This is the kind of treatment that makes a vacation memorable, as well as enhancing enjoyment in the moment. Kudos to both the staff and the management who place an emphasis on excellent service. Also,we were most impressed (and surprised) when the resort manager greeted us by name at breakfast on our first morning and personally welcomed us -- something which I cannot recall happening at any other property.
Phum Baitang's food selection was also quite good. An excellent buffet breakfast is provided with the room each morning, with a variety of Western and Asian offerings (even watermelon juice!). This breakfast serves one well for a long day of temple visits or other sightseeing. Dinner was also excellent, as was the afternoon tea served in the villas. A shout-out to the bartenders is also a must here, because the mixologists at Phum Baitang serve up some premium and sophisticated cocktails. They may be a bit pricey, but the quality is superb, and isn't that what vacation is all about?
Turning to the accommodations, Phum Baitang's villas are amazing! They are spacious, well-maintained, and ooze an understated elegance. The bathrooms are designer sleek (more photo opportunities). We even had our own private pool (a nice little splurge available in about half the villas). However, the real proof of quality is in the basics... The air conditioning is powerful and the best we experienced in Cambodia. If you like a cool environment for sleeping and relaxing, Phum Baitang's villas allow you to actually set the temperature to your level of comfort. The bed was comfortable, and the TV/Internet worked without a problem at all times during our 6-night stay. Needless to say, the room was kept extremely neat and clean by the staff during twice daily service. We never saw them (the kind of unobtrusiveness one would equate with a five-star property), but we could always tell when they had been there.
Finally, this review would not be complete without some well deserved praise for the resort's other amenities, especially the spa and gym. Phum Baitang's spa resides at the quiet, far end of the resort, close by but hidden away. Whereas all the other structures in the resort are primarily made of wood (in keeping with the village character), the spa's entrance is a stone structure, which in this context evokes images of an Angkorian temple of relaxation. The staff greet you in hushed, serene tones with a cool drink and a bite of refreshing fruit. I enjoyed a massage a couple of times at the spa as a way to unwind after a long day of climbing the temples. I had the good fortune to have Chiva as my massage therapist, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Chiva was extremely professional, skilled, and welcoming -- a living embodiment of the high standard of excellence of Phum Baitang and the Zannier brand. A good massage helps relieve stress and is a nice treat on an exotic trip. I think it is fair to say that this was the best and most relaxing massage I've had (in Cambodia or anywhere else for that matter), so I would highly recommend the Phum Baitang spa generally, and Chiva in particular, to any guests at the resort seeking to enhance their experience and positive memories of Phum Baitang and Cambodia.
In summary, we have only praise for Phum Baitang and its staff after our recent visit and offer our sincere thanks. The accommodations, service, and cuisine were all outstanding, memorable, and beyond expectations. If you will only settle for the best, look no further than Phum Baitang when visiting Cambodia.
