How to Get There
This is a large solid 4-star hotel on the sea front, well maintained and staffed. Reasonably sized and well appointed rooms and bathrooms. The entrance to the parking lot is a bit tight but manageable.
We stayed here for 2 nights as a tour group from Canada. Enjoyed the location very much. Hotel was clean, nice rooms and nice bathrooms. Beds & pillows were super comfy. On a busy street but you don't hear anything in your rooms. Breakfast room has a lovely outdoor patio area to enjoy and we were served our dinner by the pool under a canopy - beautiful. Food was excellent! The hotel included a large pool as well as access to take a dip in the sea. The sea side bar was lovely where we enjoyed a few proseccos and snacks while enjoying the view. Great staff!
Stayed at the hotel for one night first week in September 2018 and thank goodness it was one night. Stayed there because the reviews sounded good and pictures were amazing but what a shock when we got there. Just as well we had made arrangements to stay at the Sheraton for the rest of our stay otherwise I really don't know what we would have done.
Service was terrible, had to lug our own cases from reception to our room and this was no easy task. The lift looks and sounds like it was dragged into the 21st Century kicking and screaming and you can see the damage of the kicking. There are loose bits hanging off the lift and quite frankly you take your life into your own hands by getting into it.
As for the reception area, the carpets are so threadbare and looks so dirty, really don't know why its there. The whole decor in the hotel is tacky and looks dirty. The paints on the wicker chairs strewn around the hotels are all peeling off.
The icing on the cake was the room we were assigned. Terrible smell of very strong bleach met us as we opened the door. We were actually assigned another room and the housekeeper tried to explain the stench of bleach by saying the rooms were very clean hence the smell of the bleach.
The new room they put us in was no better, from the bathroom through to the room itself was dirty and things coming off furniture. The pool area fared no better.
Overall the hotel is dirty and outdated and the Hotel Inspector will have a field day in there. The place is so outdated and the furniture looks like something from a refuse centre that was picked up; everything is out of place and dirty. Beautiful building structure and so much can be done with it but unfortunately its like something from a 70's set that hasn't been kept up.
The hotel is not cheap either so I would really not waste my money. I am not a clean freak but this place is something else. Everything in the place looks and feels like something of 50 years ago that hasn't been maintained. Even the safe in the room is so antiquated with no instructions, you cannot even begin to imagine.
The hotel is not cheap either we paid £150 for one night. Really will not waste my money. I would rather camp outside.
OK I don’t really like writing bad reviews and I’m not saying that this hotel is bad it just seemed to be missing a trick.
Let’s start with the positives. Beautiful coastline views of the east side of the island. Mount Etna is to your left.
I enjoyed having breakfast on the balconies overlooking the sea.
The rooms are clean and our room was spacious in good condition with a giant bed which was comfortable.
The Hotel has an old feel like an old Italian villa which has its charm.
The restaurant in the hotel is a highlight and I have to say the staff in the restaurant are welcoming and friendly. The food is excellent and although you will pay for the privilege of good food and wine you will be fed extremely good Sicilian food.
There is a large swimming pool and rocky sea front which is used as a beach. There are sun lounges around the pool and the sea front.
There is a diving school, a bar in the interior of the hotel, a Spa and fitness area. The hotel is a few mins drive from the centre of Catania. There is a local supermarket near and restaurants.
Ok so my issue with this hotel is that there is a pool bar with a limited menu. If you want to spend the day relaxing at the hotel pool you will be limited on food. I felt the pool bar was not utilised like other hotels I have stayed in. Why is the menu so small? why is there no pool service? The staff at the pool bar are very matter of fact and not that welcoming. They could learn customer service from the hotel restaurant staff. If this hotel wants to serve international guests then it needs to step up its customer experience. I don’t like to feel like bums on seats at a hotel. I felt very much like just another punter. So I have mixed views on the services here.
I got the feeling that we were there for the convenience of the hotel not the other way around.
Nice location, clean rooms, good restaurant, nice pool.
Poor customer service, very business like but not overly welcoming.
All in all I would say this hotel would be ok if you intended to go out a lot and don’t mind being part of a large hotel complex. But for me personality is more than a building it’s the staff and the feel of a place. Just felt like nothing special. Sorry to say. But a bit underwhelmed.
It’s an older hotel but beautiful! Everyone was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and bathrooms modern. Just a short taxi ride to town. And there is a little market right down the street where we would buy our drinks and fresh fruit at a more reasonable price. The view looking over the cliffs are breathtaking. I would definitely recommend!
