How to Get There
I have stayed in Shangri-La, Chengdu for three times now. It’s an excellent hotel, the staff is very courteous. The sales manager, Mr Brosi is very helpful. The horizon club is an excellent place to have a nice time. I enjoy my evenings at the horizon club. The staff is very nice, helpful and courteous particularly Susan is always willing to help. Thanks Shangri-La for making my stays memorable.
I had a warm companion from Shangri-la Chengdu. The driver-George Deng had shown me his professional service and driving skills. In addition, I would also like to send my gratitude to Yvonne Liu from horizon club for arranging everything for me in advance.
Delightful stay and it's worth the highest grade.

Back for first time in a year. This hotel gets better and better. More smiles. More friendliness. Room service and laundry faster. A little question at check in Amie handled speedily and kindly. Yvonne at checkout efficient and cheerful. The gym here is the best and Emily is a kind and gracious manager with a wonderful staff! The Horizon level staff great as well and the food better. This is best high end lounge and worth it. The rooms comfortable with excellent high end amenities. Bravo!
The Shangri-La hotel in Chengdu is a premier, 5 star hotel. The top floor Horizon club lounge is quiet and never too busy like other hotel lounges. Concierges and staff are what you'd expect from a five start service.
I stayed here 2 weeks on business. This is a luxury hotel. For business travelers it is a good choice. The room is very clean, the bathroom is very large, and the service is top class. This hotel has everything you will need and is a "home away from home".
The hotel is very comfortable and has everything you need for an extended stay in Chengdu. It has Café-Z (buffet restaurant), a formal Chinese restaurant, a pool, spa, workout room, business center, barber shop, and 2 bars (Horizon Club and Mooney;s Bar). The Horizon Club bar on the top floor may have restrictions for who can use it. Mooney's pub on the 1st floor is open to the public and is a good place to relax after a long day. For me, I was working long days and sometimes it easier to relax in Mooney's bar instead of walking around outside the hotel looking for a restaurant.
The Café-Z has buffets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner service that has a huge range of food choices. Food choices are mostly Chinese, but you can also find a lot of Western food choices as well as Japanese and Indian foods.
The Level 1 Mooney's bar has food and drinks after 5pm. During my visit in late November the bar was very empty. But, they told me that this bar tends to be empty after Halloween through New Year. Ask about their happy hour specials.
There is a 24 hour Family Mart convenience store on the 1st floor where you can buy snacks, drinks, beer, toiletries, trinkets, etc.
This hotel is surrounded by many bars and restaurants. The south side has many bars, while the west side has a complex with a wide range of restaurants including German and Mexican food. Most of these places have English menus, but you still may struggle to communicate with the wait staff. Just be patient with them when using English and you will have no problems. You can also download smart phone apps that can use the camera to translate Chinese characters. This can be helpful if an English menu is not available.
For me, the hotel has a few drawbacks... my only concerns for the Shangri-la Hotel are:
1) The staff's English language skills are only fair. Be patient with them and you can get by in English. Also, keep in mind that in general English is not used in China, so I am sure you will have communication issues at all 5-star hotels.
2) the hotel isn't located walking-distance for good shopping. You should plan to take a taxi to find better shopping area nearby. The hotel is surrounded mostly by bars and restaurants.
3) The internet is pretty slow at the hotel. If you are planning to watch internet TV you will probably not be successful. However there are a few English language TV channels (including HBO) available on the hotel TV.
Bottom line is, I highly recommend the Shangri-La for comfortable and relaxing travel in Chengdu, China. For me, having a very clean hotel room is very important and I can confirm that Shangri-La provides a clean and comfortable room.
