How to Get There
Great service and friendly employees, especially at the club lounge we were welcomed with a nice drink to have our meeting. Very convenient to connect via the ahanghai railway station. The suite was very nice and spacious.
This is a very good hotel with the shanghai train station at the door. There is also a mall across the street. The staff were all very good. And rooms were excellent. Our room was hot and when I informed them they moved me to another room which was excellent. Had buffet dinner there, I’m vegetarian so had the pizza which was great and my wife said her non vegetarian food was good. Only reason I’m not giving a 5 star is that for some reason the rooms get hot and it’s hard to bring the temperature down. But overall would stay there again since it’s a great hotel with great service.
I travel about 200 days a year around the world. This time in Shanghai on business for four days, I decided to choose the Pullman Jing An, Because of their very convenient location. I am presently still at the hotel as I write this review.
The building and the physical facilities of the hotel are fine. The employees work hard and mean well but there are still rather a lot of very basic and simple shortcomings:
- with only three elevators, there is often a long wait
- The breakfast restaurant is much too small the tables are crammed together and therefore it is rather unpleasant... with guests and waiters “sneaking” through the tables...
- two days in a row, all the tables at the breakfast restaurant where either occupied or dirty dishes had not been cleared...
- The staff out of the hotel tries hard but nobody smiles
- it is a rainy day and the front desk does not have any umbrella
This is my 5 times in this hotel and everything is always perfect. Peoples professional and friendly, room comfortable, clean, with a lot of bathroom amenities, five stars breakfast for quality and quantity of food. The hotel is very well located with the subway station very close. It's easy to arrive from PUDONG airport using maglev train and metro.
First time staying with Pullman brand and chosen Jing'An instead due to the location, as it is just next to Shanghai railway station and right above a metro station. But probably because of situated right beside Shanghai Railway station, the area seems a little bit messy, with people from all over China coming in and out of Shanghai, and that includes people from the rural areas. And probably of that reason, I do felt that I received a not so welcomed body language from the hotel staff, especially the porter, as I saw one of the porter on shift greeted a Caucasian but ignored me when I was walking out of he hotel, in one of the 4 nights that I'd spent in this hotel. Maybe I was wrong but the feeling was so different as compared to the hotels I stayed in Suzhou and Hangzhou, prior to this Shanghai trip.
When I reached the hotel for check in, I was handled by Rex Zhu, a front desk staff who rushed his check in procedures for me, even though I'm not in a rush, and couldn't understand what he was saying even though I speaks Mandarin. No introduction of hotel amenities, WIFI password or even where to take the lift to my room. Same thing happened when I was checking out during my last day, unfortunately, it was Rex Zhu who serviced me, and this time, my friend noticed that Rex did not even have any eye contact with me when he was explaining to me on the room charges.
As for the room, I was given a corner room right at the end of the hotel, and judging from the fire evacuation floor plan, my room is the smallest among all the rooms. The bed was somewhat soft but it seems like the mattress is wearing out, and I didn't had a proper rest in most of my 4 nights. There was only a small window in the room and a big glass window in the bathroom instead, view from the room wasn't much to mention about. And most of the time I do get water leaked out from the shower room, probably due to the big gap from the glass door.
Overall I won't recommend to stay here, unless you are looking at an affordable priced hotel to just sleep in at night, and you don't get affected by mediocre or substandard service from the hotel staff. (other than the house keeping staff who were much friendlier than the front desk.
