How to Get There
Not up to the usual standards of a Pullman hotel.
Rooms small , business lounge ok ,not the best , staff very limited english if none at times. Food ok.
Management great , really helpful, clientele of other guests great , all well presented and no issues, hotel quite no noise and clean .
Close to Shanghai station for ease of travel to others parts. I had to catch the high speed train to Suzhou so this hotel was ideally situated. The rooms were large and modern with a very comfortable bed and fluffy pillows. It had an iron and ironing board in the closet with dressing gowns for two. A gratis large bowl of fruit was left in the room. Extensive and excellent buffet breakfast with something for everyone. Just around the corner was a very tasty and inexpensive noodle restaurant which I ate at every night for the three night stay (wish I had kept the name). I will stay here every time I visit Shanghai from now on.
Stayed total 5 nights in Jan-2019 at Pullman Jing'An.
I have habit of writing to the hotel to re-confirm my booking when I booked via third party (this time with Expedia) to avoid any surprises at arrival. I also made some online purchases to be delivered to the hotel. Team from Service Center was quick in their responses (thanks Jonathan Wang and all at Concierge and Front Office Dept) when I wrote to them re the above.
In addition, I also wrote to Ethan Wang to expressed my concerns re some TA reviews, specifically room temperature and he was quick in his reply with alternate options to ensure my stay will be comfortable.
EXCELLENT! Few steps from Exit 5 of Shanghai Railway Station (上海火车站, Red/Line 1). However, note that Exit 5 doesn't have escalator/lift. If you have big luggage, suggest you take one leading to the railway station and cross the road over to the hotel instead. Tip: If you're buying train tix, the ticketing counters are located in a separate building from the main railway station. Foreigners need to present traveling document (passport) at ticket counter and therefore cannot collect via the machines.
Check-in & Check-out:
Noticed Front Desk was under-staffed and therefore needed to wait a bit for our turn at check-in and check-out.
Was surprised that Ethan came to greet us personally and showed us to our room, a complimentary upgrade to Exec floor on 28/F.
As we were worried that the central heating would be too hot and stuffy, Ethan proposed to install a fan in our room for us. However, our worries were unfound. In fact, the room was quite cold and in the end, we asked for a heater. I guess the hotel is probably trying their best to manage the central heating to ensure the temperature is comfortable. Based on previous TA reviews that temperature was too hot, they probably brought down the temp. Just my guess...
Room was clean and had all you need for a comfortable stay. My only complain would be shower water pressure could be stronger.
Would also want to commend that housekeeping ladies were polite and helpful (asked for extra pillows and heater).
There are at least 4 24hr convenient stores near the hotel, Family Mart, 7-11 and 2 local chain stores. All located on left and right side of street if you walk pass Exit 5 from hotel (at hotel entrance, turn left)
Overall our experience was good with Pullman Jing'An and will recommend the hotel to travelers.
We found a nice noodle place, Kylin Noodles (面麒麟) at 277号 梅园路 (No. 277 Meiyuan Road), nested among office blocks, behind Easy Carrefour supermarket. They have free wifi and English menu. Staff was friendly and helpful.
You may want to download Didi app if you plan to cab around the city. Make sure you are at a prominent landmark or waiting at a building waiting area (hotel/office building etc) so that driver can locate you easily. If you're using overseas phone number, the only mode of communication with the driver would be the messenger in the app. I used the Chinese version, so, not sure how accurate the English version is.
The room was comfortable and nice, location was convenient.
My experience with Pullman Jingan Shanghai is nonetheless a very very unwelcomed one and the worst that I ever experienced!
Before my arrival to Shanghai, I received a surprised email stating that my credit card was not working and if I do not make payment, my booking will be cancelled! I felt this is absolutely ridiculous as my booking was confirmed with a credit card through Accor hotels, which Accor hotels did confirmed tat I only need to pay with my credit card upon arrival.
Upon arrival, my wife was holding a hand bag and handling 2 lugages by herself, the door man just ignore her and my wife literally have to bang herself against the heavy glass door to get through. At the check in counter, the receptionist looks inpatient and with a very unwelcome look on her face. After the check in procedure, she literally just threw my passport on the counter and say it's done!
Honestly, I wasn't expecting any grand welcome or a VIP treatment for checking in, but what I have experienced in Pullman Jingan Shanghai is something that I will never forget and it is absolutely ridiculous! This is the first and definitely the last time that I will want to check in into another Pullman hotel in China!
We have just arrived 4 hiurs ago and I must say I am very disappointed....there is really no service here
We arrived by taxi bringing 3 big suitcases with us. In front of us were 4-5 employees from the hotel. No one found it necessary to help us with the suitcases!
At the reception there were also no service, no feeling of being a guest, being welcomed in any way.....just asking for the credit card making the deposit...no smile, nothing
After check in we asked the concierge for a recommendation of a nearby restaurant....no knowledge, no help, nothing.....he could only say “our restaurant is good”.
Unfortunately we did follow his advise....we were “serviced” by waiters who could not speak english and the restaurant is heavily overpriced, we paid e.g. 50 CNY for a 330 ml Tiger Bottle beer....
Next Problem....we have prepaid 2 rooms for 4 nights...
