How to Get There
We stayed at the Four Seasons, Mahe, Seychelles for 4 nights in August. It was towards the end of a long and difficult (though fun!) trip and so the rest was welcome. We didn't do much, honestly, just read, swim, eat, exercise - but it was wonderful.
The hotel is about 35 minutes from the airport. We were greeted warmly and shown to our villa quickly. Since the resort is on a hill, golf carts drive you around everywhere (though you can walk and we did --- good exercise!).
The villa is amazing. There is a living area, beautiful and comfortable bed, and the bathroom is larger than many New York City apartments! The deck is what makes this villa though. There was a lounge bed that was covered, two lounge chairs, a table and four chairs, outdoor shower, and incredible pool. We spent most of our time reading on the deck while periodically staring at the views.
The gym is incredible and there was never anyone in there. There was so much equipment and it was in top shape. The treadmills overlook the ocean. What more could you want?!?
The food was impeccable. Especially the breakfast, wow! It had everything an more that you would want.
Lenny greeted us for breakfast each morning. He has a wonderful smile and makes you feel so welcome. Somehow he always remembered our names. He also noticed that my spouse is gluten-free and each morning asked the chef to prepare a special gluten-free meal (e.g. pancakes, crepes). What a nice touch!
The beach and communal pool are spectacular. Plenty of lounge chairs and covers and lots of water activities too.
If the Seychelles weren't so far away from Washington, DC, I'd be booking another stay at the Four Seasons for next year. I do hope we can return one day. It is a complete treat!
Our best holiday so far, the location is absolutely magnificent, we were blessed to have Villa 505 (Serenity Villa) which is the most incredible view from a "room" we had so far! Outstanding personalized service on the highest level, very good food, impeccable grounds, beautiful beach and very good food! We will definitely come back! Amazing Spa (on top of the hill), with great (but very expensive) services.
My wife and I have traveled the world and have stayed at top hotels and resorts and our stay at the Four Seasons Seychelles ranks high among our top 3 hotel experiences. What a fantastic stay and experience at this property!! We had just completed three weeks of safari and really needed some serious R&R. We were exhausted and needed the beauty and pampering that the Four Seasons generously provided. What we loved:
1. Customer Service: Everyone was warm, friendly, courteous, and greeted us by name through our 5 night stay. The front desk staff were attentive, and quickly responsive to request and to our needs. On our first day someone was hammering in one of the units. I called the front desk to complain and within minutes it stopped. The front desk called me back and asked if everything was quiet. Apparently they were doing some work in one fo the units.
The beach staff greeted us warmly and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable on the beach. They held our lounge chairs for us and reserved them from day to day in the location on the beach that we preferred. The golf cart drivers were pleasant and engaged us in conversation , asking about our day. The most amazing thing about the Four Seasons was how uniformly all staff were thoughtful, warm, and displayed the highest level of interpersonal skills. Not one staff person acted less than stellar. That is amazing considering the size and number of staff that the Four Seasons employs.
2. The rooms: Our initial room was close to the road and noisy due to motor vehicle traffic on the road. We requested to be moved and the front desk person arranged a new room for us the next day, with an early move in time. The new room was super quiet, high on the hill with a gorgeous view of the bay. The room itself was spacious, well appointed, very clean, modern, and a luxurious pleasure. The outdoor deck was roomy and spacious with a fabulous view of the bay and entire property. We had our own swimming pool and it was perfect for a private dip at the end of the day. The outdoor shower was a real treat. Showering with a great view of the ocean in the warm, humid, tropical air.
Breakfasts: The breakfast buffet and ala carte was abundant and delicious. The was the meal experience to have at the Four seasons.
What we found problematic:
The Restaurnats: My feedback is spot on with other trip advisor reviewers. There is a real disconnect between the restaurants and the rest of resort. The restaurants are grossly overpriced for very mediocre food. Think Michelin Star pricing for non Michelin star food. We quickly found alternatives thanks to the fabulous trip advisor reviewers. Club Liberte located at the Four Seasons entrance was excellent. We had dinner there two nights in a row and the food was amazing. And it was 1/4 of the Four Seasons price.
I’m not in the hotel/resort business but my guess is that the food service/restaurants are contracted out with another business entity and not the Four Seasons. Now the Four Seasons is stuck with them running the restaurants. Our first tip off that there was a problem was the first night of our stay and there were only 4 couples having dinner in the restaurant and we were one of them.Breakfast was an exception to the above. It was excellent. We loved the breakfasts.
Overall we loved the Four Seasons and look forward to returning. The staff generously gave of themselves and really cared about us and the comfort of our stay. We attended the Managers cocktail hour and had a delightful conversation with the Four Seasons manager and he was very nice, informative and took a great deal of interest in us. He shared how the organization focuses on customer service and their mission statement is to provide the highest quality guest experience. From our experience at the Four Seasons they really succeeded.
Bravo Four Seasons, 5 stars!!!
