There’s no designated adult pool, but youngsters generally gravitate toward the shallower of the two, with its artificial beach, while the older crowd prefers the one with the adjacent hot tub

Whimsical desert oasis with nightly lobby wine hours, a spa and Italian fare just steps from Scottsdale shopping
The soaring lobby has a nouveau lodge vibe, with wooden beams and a two-story stone fireplace alongside such whimsical details as light-up mod taxidermy and curvaceous loungers. The hallways in the guestroom wings have a slightly dated feel, which is probably inescapable given that FireSky was built in the 1960s.
Bed and Bath
Fortunately, the datedness does not carry over into the guestrooms, in which the minimalist use of Southwest materials and patterns (think leather headboards and plank-patterned rugs) gives a sense of place without making you feel as if you should have arrived by horse. In the bathroom, products are by C.O. Bigelow, America’s oldest apothecary, which put together a collection exclusively for Kimpton.
Just off the lobby, Taggia, FireSky’s Northern Italian fine dining restaurant (homemade gnocchi with braised veal is a favorite) and a shaded patio will make you feel as if you're dining in Italy. The resort’s Jurlique Spa takes a holistic approach, combining Eastern and Western styles and using products made from plants grown organically on Jurlique’s own herb farms in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. But the real star of the show is the hotel’s lagoon, a sanctuary of lush vegetation and gurgling waterfalls with tucked-away seating areas
In the Area
Shopping is practically a professional sport in Scottsdale, and you can follow the most skilled practitioners to Old Town Scottsdale, a few blocks of shops, galleries and restaurants just south of Scottsdale Fashion Square. A few miles to the north, where the setting is more desert than city, visit Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Arizona home and studio. Taliesin’s neighbor, the 27,800-acre McDowell Sonoran Preserve, which contains 120 miles of day-hiking trails, is one of the country’s largest city-owned areas of protected land.
