Swank steakhouse, three pools and a spa tucked amid sky-high cacti and stacked boulders
Dallas interior designer Paul Duesing imbues the indulgent modern spaces with a true sense of place. Paintings of saguaros and agaves adorn the walls in the bright, vibrant hues of a desert in full bloom. The lobby furniture is richly textured in sunset shades, exposed beams frame the ceiling, and touches of terra cotta add warmth.
Bed and Bath
Hand woven Huichol yarn art plays off creamy walls, furnishings upholstered in chic but rustic pattern mixes and, in some, soft adobe-style gas fireplaces. Small decks or patios face out into the desert, the perfect place to kick back with a sunset margarita. Bathrooms in soft terra cotta shades and stone tiles have deep tubs, separate showers and L’Occitane bath and body products.
Talavera, one of the best steakhouses in Scottsdale, turns out modern spins on classic beef and seafood pairings and has stunning patio views. Proof, an American canteen, serves comfort food like fried green tomatoes, shrimp and oyster po’boys, and chicken and waffles with bacon and bourbon syrup. The décor is all Wild West, with a railroad track running through the dining room. At poolside, Saguaro Blossom offers stunning views of Troon Mountain and Pinnacle Peak. Bliss out there or in the spa over a Sedona earth clay body mask or a golfers’ massage.
In the Area
The Four Seasons resort is adjacent to Pinnacle Peak Park and near the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. McDowell is ideal for outdoorsy types who want to mountain bike, hike and rock climb. Arizona Outback Adventures can help with planning. Greasewood Flat, a 130 year old quirky Wild West watering hole, is worth a visit. For shopping and dining, stroll through Scottsdale Quarter, and try health guru Dr. Andrew Weil’s True Food Kitchen. Fans of Frank Lloyd Wright’s work must visit Taliesin West. Old Town Scottsdale’s Thursday night ArtWalk sells local artists work – with free wine.
