How to Get There
I purchased The Afternoon Picnic for my friends birthday. Unfortunately, the weather didn't play ball for us so couldn't have it in the garden that had been set up for us with deck chairs and rugs. We ate in the bar which was lovely and our picnic was still served in a picnic hamper to our table The food was simply amazing typical picnic fayre served in little boxes with little jars of chutney, olives etc. We had jelly and fruit, cheesecake and lots of cakes too. HIGHLY recommend for something different. Cocktails were included too.
The hotel is in a great location! On arrival our room was not ready but we were early so went and sat in the snug bar for a drink which is so relaxing and lovely, we were also upgraded to a suite which was stunning. We were going to see a show next door at the playhouse and luckily we were shown to our room early so we could quickly freshen up before leaving. There wasn't great views as the road outside is under construction, and looks like it has been for some time, but the balcony was hugeeee. The weather was beautiful whilst on our stay but the balcony furniture was filthy so was a shame it couldn't be used. The room was really lovely and spacious with a living area and partitioned bed area. The television flipped so it could be watched from both sides. The bathroom was stunning with his and hers sinks, a shower and a bath. We did not make the most of the hotel which was a shame as we were so busy in the little time we had in Edinburgh so cannot comment on the roof terrace or other amenities. Breakfast was mediocre, if i was booking to stay again i would not get breakfast and definitely wouldn't pay. The continental was good and plenty to choose from but the Scottish breakfast was quite poor. Overall we had a lovely experience but if staying again would spend more time in the hotel as it was very expensive for 1 night and we did not get value for money which was our own fault.
My favorite part about this hotel is the “Snug Bar”. The cocktails and scotch selection was excellent and the staff (who also does room service) was helpful and attentive. The front desk team was very welcoming and highly professional. The building itself is a bit of an odd layout but once you get your bearings it’s great. The rooms are modern, comfortable and spacious and the bathrooms are massive for a European hotel. Fabulous! The location is also unbeatable- an easy 10
min walk to the train station and city center. Would definitely stay here again!
