Edinburgh break

Came for a short break and really enjoyed the stay. Staff very friendly. Hotel great, heating didn’t work properly but a solution was found within minutes of reporting it to reception. Would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful stay and highly recommend

We stayed here for a night before a tour and then for another 2 nights following our tour and cannot recommend highly enough.

The people on reception went out of their way to help with all queries/questions/requests, the rooms were super clean and comfortable and the breakfast was lovely. We ordered room service one night and the service was great. Its also in a great location and accessible to everything. Very easy walking distance to everything.

Will definitely stay here again when we get the chance to return.

Great Hotel

What was good
Welcoming staff at reception on arrival and all staff were friendly and helpful
The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in
Bedroom and bathroom were well appointed and nice and clean as was all the communal areas of the hotel
Very nice toileteries were provided and good quality towels
Breakfast and evening meal were both very good

What could have been better
Our room overlooked a building site and we were awoken at betwee 06:30 and 07:00 each morning by the building work
Our shower leaked from the cubicle door and whilst the staff responded very quickly to have it fixed water still escaped from the cubicle the next day.
We were a bit disappointed to not get a free upgrade

Perfect if sleep's not your thing

The location of this hotel is a gift and a curse. It is perfectly located for some of Edinburgh's highlights, including the extremely noisy Bunker bar. Having stayed in a room facing it for three nights I can guarantee you will either be kept awake till the wee hours by loud dance music or woken by the noisy patrons leaving at 3am (maybe both if you're as unlucky as me). In fact on my last night I thought I must have offended the bar manager somehow as it seemed as though he'd pointed the speakers directly at my room and cranked the volume up to 11. I'm sat awake at midnight writing this review as a result.

I appreciate that central city hotels will be noisy but this is the worst I've experienced, at least the runners up I've stayed in provided earplugs in their rooms as a consolation gift. Worst still the Apex charges full price for these rooms even though they must know the guests aren't actually going to sleep in them. All the nice fittings and friendly service in the world isn't going to give me back the hours of sleep lost in this hotel. To top it of I wasn't even asked about my stay at check out, I suspect they knew how awkward that conversation would be.

Despite all the good things about this hotel I can't possibly recommend it to anyone who doesn't want their room to double as a night club. Stay somewhere else and go out for your dance music.

A comfortable weekend away

I took my wife to Edinburgh to celebrate her 40th Birthday. I choose this hotel based on the pictures online, and I'm glad to say that the pictures came to life. Our room was exactly as described, clean, spacious and comfortable. All the staff we interacted with greeted us with a smile. We ate in the restaurant and found the food very tasty, my wife also had a manicure at the Spa/Salon here on site and again all the staff treated us with respect.
As for location the hotel is right in the heart of the city centre with shops/restaurants & attractions right on the door step.
I know when we visit this beautiful city again, we will almost certainly stay at the Apex Waterloo.
