Savannah’s one of those cities that you visit to keep a low profile or maybe disappear for a bit, and in that way, Ballastone Inn is a bit of an anomaly. This beautiful hotel couldn’t be less of a stranger to the spotlight, boasting four diamonds from AAA, a Departures mention as a local hotspot, a Good Morning America profile and commemorative plaques from the Historic Savannah Foundation and National Trust. It’s also top hotel on TripAdvisor, where it also holds a Certificate of Excellence, and was one of just six getaways profiled by Turner South. And yes, it’s been recommended by Andrew Harper – every year since 1983.
But in all other ways, the 1830s mansion blends in perfectly with its setting, famed for its old-fashioned southern hospitality. Rooms and suites are individually decorated with sumptuous fabrics and named with titles like Mulberry Tulip or Scarborough Fair, and an exclusive bar and private courtyard are yours to enjoy. Full Southern breakfast and a sumptuous afternoon silver-antique tea service are both included, as are C. Kay Cumming chocolates – to make your stay that much sweeter. So, in fact, Ballastone captures the very essence of Savannah. But if you’d like to see the rest, the Historic District is right out your door.
Rooms and suites
All rooms and suites at Ballastone Inn are individually themed and named, but in keeping with the award-winning hotel’s sumptuous take on hospitality, each is beautifully appointed. Expect designer fabrics, possibly including Scalamandre wallcoverings, and a palette of rich, warm local-inspired hues. Thoughtful additions like 800-thread-count sheets and a rubber ducky round off the array of luxury touches you'll find.Grand King rooms offer more square footage than the Deluxe King rooms. Premium Queen Retreat rooms are larger still and offer a Jacuzzi bath and a separate shower, while the even-more-spacious Luxury suites come with a cozy sitting area and a fireplace.
Situated within the country’s largest National Historic Landmark District, in the oldest city in Georgia, Ballastone Inn places you steps from Savannah’s gardens, churches, museums, restaurants and shops. Georgian architecture, cobblestone streets and large oaks offer a picturesque scene at every turn. For a scenic stroll, take to the walking paths of Forsyth Park, alongside the famous fountain. When the weather is nice, you can also drive over to Tybee Island and befriend some seagulls, or settle into the sands with a good book (may we suggest Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil?).
