Refreshed Santa Monica landmark in a prime location just steps from the beach and Third Street Promenade
The clue is in the name at this smack-dab central Santa Monica sleep, set just a block from the world famous beach. Fresh from a top-to-toe revamp, the new look is modern but laid-back, in a beachy palette of cream, white and sky blue. The 66 guestrooms are on the small side (typical in this part of town), but expertly styled with King or Double beds, 40-inch flat-screen TVs, work desks, tea- and coffeemakers, and stocked minibars (no alcohol). The petite bathrooms have single vanities and over-tub rainfall showerheads. Courtyard and Courtyard balcony rooms are good for light sleepers, but Ocean View balcony rooms are well worth the splurge for the sunset views. There’s no bar or restaurant, but the best of Santa Monica is on your doorstep. Ask the concierge team for their picks, but don’t miss a wander through the Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica Place Mall and serious local eats at the Food Truck Bazaar and Downtown Farmers Market.
In the Area
Take a walk out on the Santa Monica Pier’s wooden planks and you’ll encounter local anglers fishing for mackerel while jugglers, sketch artists and other street performers put their talents on display. If you’re visiting with kids, ride the roller coaster or get a bird’s-eye view of the bay from the solar-powered Ferris wheel. Walk the outdoor shopping center that is the Third Street Promenade, where you’ll find outposts of 7 for All Mankind and Anthropologie, Burberry, Fred Segal and everything in between. For the best burger in town, head to Father’s Office — but be forewarned, the place doesn’t take reservations and there’s always a line. But like much else in SoCal, it’s worth it.
