How to Get There
This particular visit was only one night, but I have stayed here on a couple other occasions. It's where you stay when you want the best in town, but it is pricey. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable with a full kitchen and most have a beautiful view of the ocean. They are dog friendly and even provide a pet bed for Fido. Dining is upscale with a beautiful patio near the bluff of the ocean, and there are walkways to take in the breathtaking views. This is not where you stay for value, but if you want to pamper yourself, this is the place!
This is absolutely the best hotel on Pismo/Shell Beach corridor. I've stayed at all of them and there is not one that compares to this resort. The food, the service, the spa, the staff are all excellent. The room accommodations are by far the best of all hotels on the corridor. Well worth the money and what you would expect from a 5-star resort. This is definitely feels the east coast of Hawaii! Do not hesitate to book it!
After discovering the unacceptable state of the hotel next door where we originally made our reservations, we found refuge at Dolphin Bay. The staff was so friendly and accommodating, even giving us a free large bottle of sparkling water. And they let us inspect the room before paying or signing anything. The "room" was literally a full apartment, with a gas fireplace, a living room, a dining space with table and chairs, a full kitchen with a full-size fridge and a dishwasher, a covered balcony, a humongous walk-in closet, a big bedroom, a big bathroom containing two sinks, and best of all, a washer/dryer machine and laundry detergent!
I have stayed at the Dolphin Bay many times and have always had a pretty great time. This last time got off to a rocky start b/c I was put in one of the worst rooms in the property ( ground level where bedroom window faced the parking lot and the living room window looked at the handicapped parking sign and you could easily hear the access road with the windows closed) but I made a phone call to the manager explaining that it was my husband's birthday and we really didn't want to spend it looking and listening to cars so he called me back and upgraded us for no charge to an ocean facing room! Occupancy rate was low at the time but we really really appreciated it!
In the comments section I mentioned that it was my husband's birthday so they had a half bottle of wine for us plus a beautiful little plate of nuts and fruits--that was a great touch.
As far as the rooms, they are really well set up and overall much nicer than your average timeshare set up.
We used the pull out sofa for our kids and it was much nicer than your average hotel sofa bed.
The grounds are small and the pool is nothing special but the location is great and we love Sunday Brunch at the restaurant Lido. I have stayed at the Cliffs next store and other hotels in the area and the Dolphin Bay is definitely the nicest in the area, we will return again someday.
--Do not book a non view room-you will be looking at the parking lot ( get pool or ocean facing)
-Ventana Grill, about 2 miles up the road towards Pismo is Fabulous for dinner and a great place to catch the sunset.
--About a mile away is a great coffee shop called the Steaming Bean
--There is a great little gourmet grocery store in walking distance called DePalo & Sons with an amazing wine selection and a convenient place to get snacks and food that you can store in the full size fridges in the rooms.
This was our 2nd time to the dolphin bay. My love set it up so beautiful with flowers and flower petals with the help from the staff. Thank you so much to everyone at Dolphin Bay Resort will be back soon.
