Romantic, Mediterranean-style villa in the fashionable Condado section of San Juan
Mediterranean meets Caribbean. Guests could be forgiven for thinking they’ve woken up in Tuscany, the only clues of Puerto Rico being the palm trees outside instead of olive trees. That’s how transporting each detail is in this Med-inspired 15-room boutique sleep, from the heavy wooden doors with wrought iron hinges at the hotel’s entrance to the Provençal-style furnishings. The theme continues on each of the four guestroom floors, which have photographs and antiques from such places as Spain, Italy, Morocco and France lining the hallways.
Bed & Bath
Rooms are decorated in earth tones and furnished with sleigh beds, antique-style wooden armoires and flowing white drapes. There are three categories: the spacious Mediterranean Suites, some of which have lagoon views; the quainter Olive Style Suites; and the tiny Petite Chambres (a fabulous option for solo travelers or those on a petite budget). All feature modern amenities including flat-screen TVs with DVD players, tablet phones, glass rainfall showers with jets, and L’Occitane bath products.
Rustic Mediterranean fare such as lamb shank with couscous and Galician octopus can be had at Oliva restaurant, where tall ceilings, an open kitchen and an atmospheric patina lend the feel of a tasting room within a wine cave. The members-only rooftop club presents the opportunity to mingle with stylish locals, and though the trappings still feel Mediterranean, the beautiful breezes and views — stretching from the city to the lagoon to the Atlantic — are pure Caribbean. Not into the bar scene? Take tea in the quaint ground-floor garden.
