Zen palace of reclaimed wood, with water views and a rooftop spa, a buzzy bar and market-fresh Italian fare
NorCal-style serenity is the order here. The serene vibe is set in the lobby, with its sandstone pillars, wood paneling and rough-hewn wood benches, and it continues seamlessly in lavender-scented hallways lit by leaf-patterned panels.
Bed and Bath
Inside the 200 rooms, you'll find a calming sea glass palette, floor-to-ceiling windows and blond wood floors beneath river stone tables. This is San Francisco, though, so the guestrooms are wired; WiFi, a flat-screen TV, a Bose Wave music system and a laptop safe are standard. Most guestrooms measure in at 300 to 400 square feet — immense by this city’s standards. The limestone bathrooms have soothing rain showers (Studios, Waterfront Rooms and Suites have soaking tubs) and are stocked with soft robes and Fresh bath products.
The intimate three-room Spa Vitale is one of the city's most charming. Set on the penthouse level, it has a soaking tub in a rooftop bamboo garden. Things are livelier downstairs at Americano, the hotel’s Italian restaurant. Here chef Joshua Perez whips up traditional dishes with a Cali twist using meats, cheeses and produce from the Ferry Building Farmers Market across the street. The after-work crowd packs the patio sipping new-school cocktails such as the Autunno, which consists of bourbon, Drambuie, Carpano Antica, lemon juice and persimmon puree.
