How to Get There
We had a lovely stay, the hotel is beautiful with an incredible history. Great location in the perfect part of La Jolla, close to the beach and also walking steps to great dining, shopping.Absolutely excellent staff. Highly recommend. I would certainly come back and also refer my clients for group meetings.
Because I came to San Diego on the spur of the moment to visit a very sick friend, I wasn’t looking for a vacation hotel - just proximity to the hospital. However, due to graduations etc all the usual suspects were sold out. Therefore it was serendipity that led me to choose this lovely hotel. I was completely won over and will never look for another hotel in San Diego again. What a blessing to have this haven to come home to after long sad days in the ICU. Being able to walk by the water to clear my head and be in the vicinity of nature and beauty really helped lift my spirits - not to mention having wonderful restaurants and cafes walking distance. Duncan was such a helpful valet (as were they all), the front desk were always extremely helpful and of course the Nine-Ten restaurant divine (see separate review). If you like historic hotels with character, gorgeous views, proximity to both nature and the comforts of civilisation, delicious cuisine, and extraordinarily friendly staff, look no further!
We got this reservation just in the nick of time. We did pay a lot more than we planned to, though, as it was graduation weekend. However, we had a great time, and didn't have another weekend ailable to take time off. We will come back again, but hope for a better rate, as we are military retired, and seniors. No special rate was available. We usually stay at the Empress and eat at Manhattan. We enjoyed breakfast at your restaurant though....however, service a bit slow, and food was lukewarm....not much on our plates!
We highly recommend staying at the Grand Colonial. The Grand Colonial's location, service, and quality can't be beat. We will definitely return to the Grand Colonial for our next trip to La Jolla, CA.
Grand service, location and property in La Jolla. So close to great shopping, eating, and enjoying both the natural beauty og La Jolla and peoplewatching. Pool area was clean, quiet and relaxing. Bar scene casual. Nine-Ten Restaurant with great food and service. Our second visit and we'll back.
