Overview

Colonial-style retreat with direct beach access, plus five restaurants and an award-winning spa

The Lowdown

Set on a dazzling half-mile strip of stunning beach and surrounded by 56 acres of tropical garden, the Taj Exotica is one of Goa’s best luxury hotels. The colonial-inspired resort features a grand marble lobby with a vaulted ceiling that overlooks palm-fringed lawns. The spacious guestrooms have private balconies overlooking the sea or the gardens, and the marble-clad bathrooms are equipped with tubs and walk-in showers. The extensive dining options include Alegria, for traditional Goan fare; Eugenia for Indian and Continental specialities; Li Bai for upscale Chinese; Miguel Arcanjo for Spanish, Italian and Moroccan cuisine; and the seasonal Lobster Shack for freshly caught seafood. For total relaxation, make a beeline for the award-winning Jiva Spa and request a Vishram aromatherapy massage in a private pavilion (open seasonally) by the Arabian Sea. Then follow that up with a Palm Kiss Martini and a prawn-chili-olive skewer at the glam wood-paneled lobby bar, Adega Camoens.

In the Area

There’s a lot more to Goa than sunbathing and partying. Yoga enthusiasts flock to the northern village of Mandrem, where Ashiyana’s famous Rejuvenation and Detox programs are offered. To explore Goa’s Portuguese colonial past, head to the church of St. John the Baptist. The building’s sparkling white façade has been a Goan landmark for more than 400 years. For some of the best chicken vindaloo in India, visit Viva Panjim, a tiny family-run restaurant in the city of Panaji known for its tasty Goan staples and other Indian delicacies, as well as its international cocktail menu.

The best in Goa

I’ve been to Goa 19 times and have tried almost all of the 5 stars there. However, Taj Exotica is king!

Kudos to Risha for the smooth check in. We were a party of 6 and had booked 3 rooms. Initially, the rooms assigned were not together and we voiced our concern. Risha took swift action and upgraded us in order to offer all the rooms within the same villa complex.

The rooms itself were fantastic. Very spacious and modern (they have been recently refurbished). However, the bathroom was one of the best in India (I’m a big fan of great bathrooms). Bath products were top notch as well (forest essentials). Little things like the evening turn down service give Taj the competitive edge.

We had some issues with the breakfast inclusion (our travel agent had goofed up). Kaustub, among with his manger, handled the situation extremely well (was very kind and polite).

Breakfast was amazing as well — indian and continental sections. Great attention to detail there as well with staff members constantly checking in to see if everything’s okay.

Swimming pool and spa area need slight revamping but I’m sure that’s already been planned out.

Had visited the property during my official trip. Experience was good, so decided to visit with my family. Went there on the 13th of September and was there till 15th. Every small details of the trip was taken care of by them. From the pick up till the warm welcome till the luxurious introduction to the property till the amazing room till the overall experience and the airport drop on time. My family were so impressed with every detail that I have become very popular at home
