Value conscious? Might want to look elsewhere
Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Our group of 10 stayed for a week. How much you like the villa probably depends on whether you are sensitive towards value in your vacation choices.
A few points:
You're going to spend a lot of time in the golf carts shuffling back and forth for any amenities. There's no beach within walking distance, so its your villa pool or time on the cart. Are you really beachfront if you have to take a cart to the beach? Our staff was competent, but we fell short of the "member of the family" status that others describe here. Dining was a highlight of each day, we all liked the meals that were prepared. The grounds are beautiful. The fitness center was better than most. The tennis courts are great- very busy until 11, when people scatter elsewhere.
A few things I wish I knew ahead:
1. Send a landing party to a supermarket from the airport and buy up there. You'll probably save $500+ without even trying. The resort will charge you $75-100 to drive you to the market after you arrive.
2. Bring only 2-3 outfits. Your maid will launder your clothes in a comically short amount of time. Clothes you drop in the hamper at 10:00 will be back, clean and folded, on your bed at 3:00.
3. Expect to pay 25-40% on top of exorbitant pricing that would make a ballpark vendor proud. 4 Red Stripes at the bar= $36 + $9 service + $5 tip. You're either so wealthy that you shrug at this or you choose to drink at the villa. If you're drinking beer at your villa, are you really on a resort vacation?
4. The resort is about 40% torn up. Their premier pool is now a construction site. Their remaining pools are pretty mediocre. I'm not sure how Half Moon compensates for this situation.
5. After 7pm the resort is deader than a dinosaur. Our teens were desperate to find someone, anyone, willing to have some fun but no luck. A managers reception one night turned out a decent crowd, but one hour later, the lobby and bar were deserted.

If you are looking for a family/group trip with access to a resort, and price is not an object, you will probably find a lot to like here. For me, the value didn't deliver.

Fabulous Week of Relaxation, Food, and Fun with Great Staff
Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We spent a perfect week in January at a Half Moon Villa 85 with 4 other couples and a fabulous staff of Kirk, Karen and Cadilla. The villa was as lovely as the weather and the service was outstanding. We all wanted to bring the staff home with us. Karen is a wonderful chef and can accommodate all preferences. Kirk was unbelievable, always there to fulfill any needs. And Cadilla kept the place immaculate and tended to our personal needs. The villa was very comfortable and easily accommodated 10 adults for meals and leisure activities. The villa staff made a wonderful and memorable week even more special.

President’s week 2019 at Half Moon

My family spent a week at Half Moon last month. There were 11 of us..ages 15 to 81.
We stayed in villa 62 with Gawain, Judith and Janet.
We take this week to go somewhere warm and tropical every year and this was definitely one of the best! The weather, proximity to the airport, and the lovely people made Montego Bay a great choice!

Let me start with our villa. Gawain, our butler was warm, welcoming and could not have been more helpful with taking care of our every need. Judith was lovely! She kept the house very neat and our laundry was folded at the end of our beds each day. This was one of the best parts of the trip, for sure!
Janet was an amazing chef! Every meal was prepared lovingly and she took all of our dietary needs into consideration (vegetarians, picky teenagers, and spicy/not spicy requests).
We were so well taken care of that we are every meal, with there exception of 2 at the house.
The villa itself was spacious and clean. The pool was perfect for a quick dip. The house could use a little updating, maybe some more comfortable furniture in the living room.
We spent each day at the main resort. The golf carts and bikes made for easy transport. It is too long of a walk, so you definitely need wheels.
We are big tennis players and the courts were very busy. There are lessons and tournaments going on a lot of the time, so it wasn’t easy to get a court during the prime morning hours. We also needed a couple of extra racquets one afternoon so we rented them. $8 per racquet is a little
Too expensive in my opinion. Food at the resort (we only had one lunch) was just “fair” and very expensive. After our lunch at the sea grape we decided to eat at home for the rest of our meals. The drinks at the bar were delicious! Our beach attendants were friendly and made sure that we had enough chairs and drinks.
The spa was amazing! I had one of the best massages I’ve ever had from Sanjay.
I wish I could have spent more time there..beautiful gardens and a vegan cafe with delicious offerings.

We would definitely recommend a family
Trip to Half Moon and if you are a large group, the villas are the way to go! If you can request Gawain, Janet and Judith you will have an amazing trip!

Hope we make it back there!!

Amazing Family /Business Vacation!
Reviewed 3 months ago

We recently stayed at the villas at Half Moon resort in Montego Bay. We were a group of 10 adults and 2 toddlers. We stayed in Villa 88/Red Ginger (garden view) and we had a phenomenal time.

This property superbly fit the bill for our family business retreat. We were traveling to have some fun but also have a retreat outside of our office where we could address topics related to our multi generational family company. This was the perfect setting.

Our villa was 6 bedrooms, 6 baths so everyone had their own "master suite" - the rooms varied in size but all were comfortable and the staff was very accommodating to assist with sleeping arrangements for our toddler grandsons. There was a very comfortable common room (with large flatscreen TV) with two couches and two oversize chairs. That along with the tables on the pool deck provided great spaced to meet, relax and play games in the evening.

The staff in our villa definitely made the trip! Dexton (our butler) and Debbie (chef extraordinaire) along with the housekeeper were phenomenal. They catered to our every need. There was no need to eat out (but we did) as Debbie provided outstanding local cuisine while meeting some strict food restrictions (including gluten, soy and dairy free). When we return we will insist on the same crew!

The rest of the property was fabulous. The gym is large, well kept and has modern working equipment. We all had excellent massages at the same price we pay at home! The beach was wonderful and very clean and well kept - the staff was always raking any debris the came in from the ocean, servers walked around all day passing out complimentary water, fruit smoothies and fresh fruit. There is a really nice "grill" for lunch on the beach. The servers will also serve you something to eat or a drink at your seat on the beach. There's also plenty of shade on the beach if you prefer that.

We ate at the beach bbq which was really fun with live music and other entertainment. Food was very good - lots of Jamaican fare. We also ate at the Sugar Mill - the ambiance and service was very nice but we felt it a bit overpriced.

There are many other options on this property including first class tennis, horse back riding, a sprawling playground, multiple pools, golf and even a vegan cafe! For those in our party who liked to hit the sack early we did that and the night owls simply took the one of the golf carts and went back to one of the bars at the main hotel to hang out.

I would agree with some of the other reviews that the furnishings in the villas are a bit tired and could use a bit of a face lift (it's my understanding that that is in the works). That being said, the staff kept out villa immaculately clean and it was certainly comfortable for our needs. Our villa staff were incredibly sweet, patient and accomodating with our grandchildren. Dexton and Debbie went well above and beyond; everyone staff member we met were incredibly friendly.

We will definitely be back in 2020!

"Unique Property; Outstanding Staff!"

We were a family of nine ranging from age sixty-one to nine months. From the moment we landed, to the send off breakfast things couldn't of been more perfect. Kirk, our butler, went above and beyond to make sure every need was taken care of. Karen, our chef, prepared both traditional Jamaican flare to simple scrambled eggs for the children. Our maid, Cadilla, made sure our rooms were comfortable and clean and she even washed and folded our clothes! Our private staff made sure our families time together was special, taking care of everything we needed or wanted. It is hard to find villas that can accommodate large families, and have all the amenities of the hotel. It was a perfect combination. I would definitely return to these hidden gems and request the same team. Saying goodbye was hard because they were like part of our family!
