How to Get There
Stayed here a couple of weeks ago...and was very pleased with the resort. The hotel was so clean and well maintained. But what made this vacation so wonderful were the wonderful staff that works there. From the bartenders to the staff at the front desk. We went next door to the new Riu Reggae and enjoyed it just as much. So much entertainment....can not wait to return to this fabulous resort.
Our recent stay at the Riu Palace Montego Bay March 7 - 12 was relaxing, quiet, and most of all refreshing. We spent our days on the beach by the Lime poolbar. Our server Latoya was outstanding and was working hard every day taking care of us and the other guest. We really enjoyed the Jerk Chicken lunches from the beachside hut at the Riu Reggae next door. Our room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. We only ate at the buffet for Breakfast and Dinner and we always had plenty of choices. The Aqua bar entertainment at night was good, especially the steel drum band on the beach. We appreciate the friendliness of all the staff, always smiling and checking on you. Would definitely stay at the Riu Palace again in the future.
We stayed at the Riu Palace for a week after a fantastic cruise on the Tui Discovery 2.
The Palace is the central hotel sandwiched between the Riu Montego Bay and the Riu Regae Hotels.
When we first checked in and shown to our room, we thought Wow what a fantastic hotel. The room was huge with whirlpool bath, very large bed, fully stocked mini bar with optics which were a part of the package. We went down to lunch and could not fail to be impressed with the tiered pools down to the main pool and lovely beach. Before we got to the restaurant, a plane went over which had just taken off from the airport about 2Km away. The planes were continuous until about 8pm which are all very low and noisy and on full throttle as they left the runway.
As we walked towards the Restaurant you are greeted with very loud banging music from the pool bar complete with DJ shouting down the Mike “entertaining the Americans” who tend to stand in the pool drinking all day an being extremely loud.
The lovely beach and pool is just spoilt by this noise every day from 10am until 6pm. You cannot get away from the consistent noise, sometimes coming from the hotels next door as well!
We enjoy music around the pool but this is just annoying.
These 3 Riu 4 & 5 star hotels tend to be party hotels for groups of Americans on short breaks and hen & stag parties.
Now for the good points: The Riu Palace is a great 5 star hotel with everything you could wish for in a hotel, immaculately clean, friendly staff, fantastic food and drink and a superb room albeit the balcony overlooked the main road and loading bay. The evening entertainment was very good across the 3 hotels, with excellent dancers and performers.
There is a small shopping centre over the main road, but that is all there is in the area and you are warned not to walk off anywhere due to security issues.
We had an enjoyable week here but would not return again.
We booked this hotel based on reviews and we had stayed at RIU Palace in Gran Canaria. We knew what to expect and the hotel met our expectations. We were given a room upgrade to include a courtyard view,we would suggest this is the least you should reserve as some of the rooms cant have great views if the're not overlooking at least partially the sea.If you can justify it book a sea view room. The rooms are to a high standards and are large. The staff are very good with few exceptions. The food in the main buffet is very good with plenty of choice. The specialist restaurants are o.k. but the two sitting scheme is just wrong because you either have to queue at 6pm and then put your name on a list if you want to eat later.just does'nt work in a flexible way.The drinks are generally good and bar service is terrific. Evening entertainment is good and centres around the Aqua bar facing the beach. We would recommend this hotel to those who want a lively atmosphere. what you will experience are some fabulous staff in a quite intimate space in that it is the smaller of the three RIU hotels next to each other. You can use the other hotels but the Palace is the best one.Tipping is sort of expected so be prepared although you will get good service anyway. Noise from the low flying planes is an issue but you gain from a short transfer from the airport.Big up to KEM at the Hanover bar, Audley at the buffet,Kache and Jo Jo entertainment.Clients are mainly American .
We stayed here for an entire week and it was everything we were wanting and more! The staff was amazingly polite and accommodating. So much so, we felt bad. We do not have one single complaint about this resort. Only suggestion we could come up with would be: to have wider variety/selection at the snack kitchen when restaurants are closed would be nice but not a deal breaker for us. Food, drinks, service was AMAZING!!! Beach and rooms were even more amazing! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT
