The Lowdown

No stay at this restorative bayside gem is complete without experiencing its very own jewel—a sultry Himalayan Sea Salt Therapy Lounge at its two-story spa, guaranteed to provide the reset you most likely need; the spa’s 14 treatment rooms also deliver a long list of other relaxation remedies, such as Wild Ginger Deep Tissue and Jamaican Moringa Oil massages. Once the Palmyra Resort, this renovated all-suite property is now a marble-and-natural wood dazzler, with 217 colonial-style accommodations that range from 806-square-foot Oceanfront Junior Suites to three-bedroom villas featuring private plunge pools, soaking tubs, washer/dryers, and full kitchens. Whether you’re indulging in water sports, a game of volleyball (one of the property’s pools is flanked by a net), or grazing at one of the twelve onsite restaurants—choose from al-fresco Tex Mex, a stone-oven pizzeria, or Waves, the resort’s flagship French-Jamaican fine-dining spot—chances are you’ll be spending lots of time wandering this palatial, palm-flanked expanse. Be sure to sample an island-inspired libation, fueled by Jamaica’s national liquor at the property’s breezy cocktail lounge, Rum Runner.

In the Area

The Jewel Grande is just a mile from some of the island’s world-class golf courses such as White Witch and Cinnamon Hill—golfers should inquire about the resort’s unlimited greens fees golf package. Mystic Mountain, a tropical theme park filled with attractions like a state-of-the-art chairlift and the Bobsled (a 3,280-foot gravity-drive through the rainforest) is an hour and a half away. (The resort can arrange a day trip.) Though the property’s adjacent beach can be heavy with sea grass, a range of exhilarating Montego Bay experiences such as swimming with dolphins, fishing, zip-lining, and boating all make for worthy outdoor excursions.

Birthday Celebration

We just returned from our week stay at Jewel Grande to celebrate my daughter’s 16th birthday. The property is beautiful and well maintained. The staff is courteous and helpful. Special shoutouts to:
Andrew at reception for his assistance in extending our time in the oceanfront villa. We truly appreciate it.
Our butlers, Kaden and Keen, for their assistance in making my daughter’s birthday special.
Byron for a fun time on the Hobie wave catamaran.
Kevin; thanks for the fitness classes. We really enjoyed the workouts.
Cedella at the spa; you make the best smoothie and raw vegetable drinks.
We will return for sure.

Won’t go back

The resort has pretty nice landscaping. The common areas are pretty nice as well. The room are very average. Our room had a broken microwave, broken sliding glass door, and very worn furniture.

The common areas don’t seem to have very good AC. They have supplemental AC units but is hot in all common areas. You will sweat. The food is NOT good. Even our kids complained. We found one restaurant that was decent. It was the hibatci restaurant. When we returned for a second time...kids ordered the tempura shrimp. It was one of the few items they liked. When the tried to order a second tempura shrimp appetizer they were told they could not have it. We tried to get the crepe dessert at the steak restaurant two nights in a row. It was one of the very limited desserts they had. Each night we were told there are no more crepes.

Don’t try to work out. The on site gym is awful and has no AC.

Overall.....it just was not a good value.
