No stay at this restorative bayside gem is complete without experiencing its very own jewel—a sultry Himalayan Sea Salt Therapy Lounge at its two-story spa, guaranteed to provide the reset you most likely need; the spa’s 14 treatment rooms also deliver a long list of other relaxation remedies, such as Wild Ginger Deep Tissue and Jamaican Moringa Oil massages. Once the Palmyra Resort, this renovated all-suite property is now a marble-and-natural wood dazzler, with 217 colonial-style accommodations that range from 806-square-foot Oceanfront Junior Suites to three-bedroom villas featuring private plunge pools, soaking tubs, washer/dryers, and full kitchens. Whether you’re indulging in water sports, a game of volleyball (one of the property’s pools is flanked by a net), or grazing at one of the twelve onsite restaurants—choose from al-fresco Tex Mex, a stone-oven pizzeria, or Waves, the resort’s flagship French-Jamaican fine-dining spot—chances are you’ll be spending lots of time wandering this palatial, palm-flanked expanse. Be sure to sample an island-inspired libation, fueled by Jamaica’s national liquor at the property’s breezy cocktail lounge, Rum Runner.
In the Area
The Jewel Grande is just a mile from some of the island’s world-class golf courses such as White Witch and Cinnamon Hill—golfers should inquire about the resort’s unlimited greens fees golf package. Mystic Mountain, a tropical theme park filled with attractions like a state-of-the-art chairlift and the Bobsled (a 3,280-foot gravity-drive through the rainforest) is an hour and a half away. (The resort can arrange a day trip.) Though the property’s adjacent beach can be heavy with sea grass, a range of exhilarating Montego Bay experiences such as swimming with dolphins, fishing, zip-lining, and boating all make for worthy outdoor excursions.
How to Get There
Wagwan! You must get to Jamaica now. Don’t miss out on a sparkling “Jewel” in Montego Bay. You can stay in the luxurious Jewel Grande resort in Montego Bay. It is an all-inclusive resort that comes with a plethora of amenities including your very own Butler. My Butler, Ashton was outstanding and he checked on me everyday! You can enjoy spectacular views from your balcony or your Cabana of the stunning Caribbean Sea.
Oh did I mention the amazing food? There is a Steak House, Seafood Restaurant, Italian Restaurant, and an Asian Restaurant to satisfy taste buds. In addition, there is a very impressive Jamaican food night on the beach. You can get your ox-tails or listen to the band play fabulous reggae music. I enjoyed lunch daily at the Crickets Beach Grill with Tishell and Uroy who had exemplary customer service skills. Javoy was my bartender who made amazing drinks.
A huge shout out to Mr Gary in lobby bar. Gary was simply splendid and he did an amazing job managing the late night traffic in the lobby bar. He knew our order when walked in.
While in Jamaica, take an excursion to Dunn River Falls or Bob Marley’s home or maybe Gary can make you a Bob Marley cocktail. Oh yell, you must try the scrumptious Jamaican Rum Cream or just have Javoy make you a cocktail called Ambassador’s Reef.
I can’t wait to return to the sparkling “Jewel” Grande because I had such an amazing vacation.
I am still on my trip, but Kevin has suggested two days in a row that I get on Trip advisor, so, Kevin, here it is.
I was skeptical when we first arrived, and other people on my plane were jumping into big AC buses, and I was led to a bus that was basically a van, and I watched them load my luggage through a window. But I can tell you, from the start it was top class all the way. This resort truly loves their guests, and shows respect every minute. I have traveled throughout the Caribbean, and never have I felt this way. When someone at this resort says you are family, they are genuine. The bellhops unloaded our luggage, and were super cool. In the lobby we were first greeted with ginger lemonade while waiting in line. The front desk people were polite and friendly, our room is amazing, and we only got a junior king. Kevin, the activities person, invited us immediately to a water aerobics class. Kevin is awesome, love his classes. Uroy served us food at the crickets bar, and was very professional (and has a good singing voice). Tishelle was also truly amazing. Javoy was our bartender at crickets, he read "Toronto" on my hat, and has called me Toronto ever since. Javoy is always awesome, always there with the red stripe and a "Ya Mon". Daven and Eric were great in the steakhouse (jerk ribs are awesome). Daven should do comedy. Lol. We met Jermaine and Fabien in the Asian grill, where they entertained everyone. They were bothJamaizing and Fabtastic! At one point everyone in the Asian grill area came over to tell us jokes. It was awesome! The life guard (Byron), gave me aloe for my sunburn, and then also moved an umbrella for us the next day. We thanked him, and he said not to worry about it, as we are all family. And he really seemed to mean it.
I don't know what you do as a manager to make people feel this way, or If it is just inate, but people at this resort do everything they can to make you feel welcome and they honestly care.
My wife went to the spa for a massage. Dawn, the massage therapist gave an amazing back, neck, and legs massage. She went over and above to make sure that the experience was a great one!
The people in this resort made this the best trip my wife and I have ever had. We plan to come back with more family next time. There are so many who should be mentioned by name, but honestly, there were so many amazing people. I have NEVER been treated so will in my life.
Just got home From a week at the jewel grande resort and it definitely is a 5 star resort. The suites are beautiful we had an oceanview suite on the 6th floor unbelievable views. The beach is beautiful and the employees work really to keep it that way. The girls and guys at the orchids restaurant work hard to make your dining experience a good one and the definately succeed. We had the best omelelets From the chefs one of the best we have ever eaten. Peter at the steakhouse always had a Great smile asari at concierge was a sweetheart Damien one of the sweetest bell hops ever the sweet lady who serves at the pizzeria your conversations were wonderful. We also had the pleasure of meeting Martino who serves at the lobby bar. He is truly a real asset to this resort not only does he make killer cocktails he is a beautiful soul and we truly enjoyed talking to him he would make a great manager. I wish I could include so many more the staff at this resort. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a truly amazing holiday, we barely left the resort our days were so full we didn't have to look elsewhere, we're allready planning our vacation here next year.
We stay here whenever we visit Jamaica which is 6 times a year. We have stayed at almost every AI and Jewel Grande exceeds all of them. Food, rooms, staff is the best. Jody Kay Jodi Ann Tafari Gary etc. are way above any employees we have ever encountered. And all others are just as great! Pools are beautiful and drinks very good. Best food at any AI I've ever had. Even Secrets. And great burgers and pizza which is nearly impossible to find in Jamaica. The managers are always on hand and so friendly. Book this resort. You will love it.
My husband and I got married at the Jewel Grande on May 4, 2019 with 62 guests. I can honestly say, it was perfect. We settled on this location because Montego Bay is fairly easy to get to from Louisiana and they had my desired date available. We read some reviews online but we had never been to the resort. We took a chance and it exceeded our expectations.
We put the deposit down in October 2018 to reserve our date. At that time, I was assigned a wedding coordinator at the resort. My coordinator was Shanique McFarlane. I cannot express how amazing this woman is! She is patient, kind, organized and very sweet. We communicated primarily via email to plan all the wedding details. We did have a few phone calls in between. Everything is organized on their wedding website where you can login and submit all payments with ease. I made multiple payments over time and had to have it paid in full about 3 months before the wedding date. We met with Shanique the Thursday before the wedding, walked the locations of the wedding and went over everything we had decided via email. She had it all organized and ready to go. The entire process only took about 40 min of our time in Jamaica and it was so easy! They even had a backup plan in case it rained.
Shanique was very helpful in planning. She sent me pictures of options for location, flowers, cake, etc. You can go with the included package but you can also customize however you would like. I picked my location but changed my mind for the reception and we were able to change it with ease. I think I was very lucky to have such an easy time planning this wedding.
Our ceremony took place at the gazebo overlooking the beach. We then had a cocktail hour on the boardwalk with a steel pan band. The reception was at the pavilion which is a more private area away from all the other hotel guests in the grass surrounded by beautiful greenery. We had a DJ at the reception which played very fun music. We also had an MC who kept everything organized and kept the party vibe going. We had a firedancer perform and we made friends with some of the entertainers the night before the wedding who came and "crashed the party" and danced at our reception. There was a huge list of entertainment options - bands, DJ, steel band, snake charmer, magician, fire dancer, etc.
When we arrived at the hotel we were blown away by how big, beautiful and nice it was. We checked in at the lobby where they welcome you with a refreshing ginger lemonade which was much needed after a day of traveling. They even added alcohol upon request. The check-in process was very easy. We met our butler, Ramone, at that time who took us to our building on a golf cart. Ramone showed us to our room and brought our luggage up. The hotel has 3 huge buildings all with rooms. It was very spread out but easy to get to any building you need to. The walkways and scenery is breathtaking. The maintenance in these areas is very impressive. The grass is always clean and well kept. There is a security officer at every building that greets you and opens the door for you when you arrive to your building. We were upgraded from a 1 bedroom suite to a 2 bedroom suite. Many of our guests were also upgraded. The rooms are HUGE. I could not believe how spacious it was. We had an entire kitchen with a stocked fridge with drinks, water and beer. We had 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The balcony was large and had a spectacular view. Some of our guests arrived before check-in time and they were able to leave their luggage at the lobby and were able to take advantage of all amenities (pool, beach, restaurants, etc) while their room was getting ready.
The first day we ate lunch at Pelicans grill which had decent food. We enjoyed the pool with the swim up bar which was very nice. We had a candlelit dinner on the beach that was included in our wedding package. The food was delicious and service was amazing. We were the only people on the beach and right by the water.
The beach at the Jewel Grande is very private and secluded. The rocks in front of the beach make the water very calm and easy to hang out in without having to worry about huge waves. There are rafts in the water you can swim out to and lay out on. There are also Hobie cats (sailboats) you can use for free and take out on the ocean. Many of our guests took advantage of those. There are beach chairs free for any of the guests but they also had beach cabanas you can rent for an entire day for $100. They are very comfortable and provide shade. They also brought up ice chests of beer for our cabana and have bartenders who come by on the beach to take your order.
The evening entertainment is AMAZING! There was an event every night we were there. They had a Jamaican street party one night where they had a buffet of Jamaican cuisine and had a show of traditional Jamaican dance. We were able to take part in dancing with the entertainers, including a fire dancer. There dance moves are so impressive, I could have watched them all night. Most of the restaurants and bars close around 10:30ish but the Lobby Bar stays open until 2am. They play fun music and the bartenders are friendly.
The breakfast buffet is delicious. They have a huge variety of food and a bloody mary and mimosa bar. The steakhouse, Le Bouchon, has great food. Some of my guests raved about the Hibachi grill, Pierside, but I personally did not eat there. We loved the jerk chicken and pork at Crickets for lunch. It was a great snack while being out at the beach or pool all day. The empanadas by the swim up bar were probably my favorite food. The room service was not the best but it was necessary on the nights we got in late and had been drinking and needed a snack.
The butler service was great. We had 2 butlers, Ramone and Garon. They got our phone numbers and text us on WhatsApp which was very convenient. They delivered drinks and food to our room and helped with all of my wedding needs. Ramone brought all of my welcome bags downstairs to the lobby after I unpacked them and stuffed the bags.
The staff at the Jewel was all around terrific. The natives of Jamaica are so laid back and friendly. Anytime we needed something it was "no problem" or "yeah mon" with a smile on their face. They were helpful, prompt and always trying to make you smile.
The gym was great. They have workout classes scheduled each day and a gym you can do your own thing at. I went to the gym one morning and one of the trainers came in the gym and got my maid of honor and I off the treadmills and brought us outside to the gazebo for a 30 min ab HIIT workout. We worked out in the sun overlooking the beach. They also had yoga and cycling classes I saw on the schedule.
The spa is impressive. Everyone inside is very profession and is sure to make sure you know where everything is. It is very relaxing and the massage I had was one of the best I have had. There is also a steam room, sauna and outside mineral pools to utilize.
There was a coffee shop at the bottom of our building that had amazing coffee and fresh squeezed juice. They also had pastries, muffins, etc.
My niece and nephew loved the kidszone. My sister was able to drop them off there and they did crafts and kept them busy all day. The kids were begging to go back each day. The resort does a great job at being kid friendly but not being too much.
You can barely tell kids are around. There were many groups there that were only adults.
Some of our guests did have issues with their A/C but they were good about repairing it promptly. Our room A/C worked fine.
I would HIGHLY recommend the Jewel Grande for anyone going to Montego Bay. We had the best experience and like I said before, it exceeded our expectations. It is so close to the airport and it is fairly affordable. We will definitely be going back. We went to Sandals Montego Bay for our honeymoon and my husband and I both agree we wish we could have stayed at the Jewel instead!
