How to Get There
I had the pleasure of staying here in May for a girls trip. The rooms were beautiful, food was great, and the beaches and pools were amazing. Beautiful ocean views from our room. The landscaping was beautiful too. I especially loved the fire pits throughout the resort, it made for a fun night sitting by the fire, with a glass of wine, listening to live music. Nice touch. The entire staff was friendly and very helpful. I highly recommend this place for a girls trip, couples trip or the connecting resort Ziva for a family trip. Thanks again to Amy at Dream Makers Vacation Services for planning this awesome, dream vacation.
Excellent! Friendly staff, amazing food. fabulous beaches and pools, outrageous food! J crew was outstanding. Kelly Ann, Omar, Jamey, Travis. Servers Alicia and Gloria attended to our every need. So much to do, yoga, water spin classes, aerobics, volley ball on the beach and in the pool. The foam party at the adult pool was soooo much fun.
Catamaran rides are free and amazing to see the total resort from the water. Kayaks, snorkeling, water boards all available. Anthony was so personable as a cook. We feel we are spoiled and no other vacation could match this.
Though the room was lovely (I typically stay at places that make me feel at home with a chic, modern feel) everything about this place is overrated and not for people who come to the Caribbean for balance (party AND relaxation). We stayed at the Zilara to have some fun adult time. However it was restricted and by adults only I think they cater more to seniors. The "parties" were fairly quiet (soft music, bassless dj's) and was not the vibe I expected in Jamaica (You are going to get a ton of commercial reggae music and a lot of typical American pop music). It is very water downed for those people who want to say they went to Jamaica but still feel very "comfortable". There was a foam pool party that seemed VERY PG and the staff just kept saying they didn't want "certain people" to complain. There was almost a fear from management if they got out of line (a very slave-like mentality).
All the big fun, bands and shows seemed to mostly go down on the kiddie side at Ziva. Many of the restaurants were on the kiddie side as well.
SPEAKING OF RESTAURANTS do NOT let this place fool you like it did us. There are about 5 restaurants all which serves similar foods throughout. There is a Brazilian chop house, Italian, Caribbean, seafood/Caribbean, and something else. Then there's a pub-like bar. and the other (total of 9-11 restaurants they advertise) are "food carts" serving rice and peas/festivals and jerk chicken and little coffee pods with petite pastries and chocolates. :/
All servings are portioned so if you want more food order a second plate. They typically won't complain. Room service food is standard food. And the a la carte/breakfast buffet is the worst. I do not eat any animal products yet the food is served side by side in the same pan with the cheese eggs right next to and cross contaminating the potatoes. Pork bacon served next to the veggies, with no designated serve ware to not allow cross contamination of meat products. Pool side butlers serve fries burgers/ bar food. Not one curry anything in sight.
ALCOHOL: All RAIL drinks with no option to upgrade or pay for top shelf liquor. So to me it was not worth having hangovers from cheap Appleton and Smirnoff infused drinks. You could actually buy Moet or white hennessey for $109/bottle. Which is definitely overpriced.
BEACH: Not real sand beach and tons of rocks/debris so be forewarned! There are rocks at the start of getting into the ocean unless you go out about feet or more (swimming levels). But the water and view were nice.
ROOM: Stayed in the Ocean Front Suite which was very nice. The tub was nice the shower was big enough for 2 people BUT of course there werre some flaws. The sinks were stopped up the entire time and instead of fixing it or moving our room they simply removed the drain plugs from EVERYTHING including the tub. Just think had my wedding ring fell in the drain! Got a few dirty towels with stains/makeup on them not sure if they are being bleached. They do give you plenty of towels so we just kept grabbing new ones until we found clean ones.
For this to be the HYATT I was very unimpressed by not just the atmosphere but the overall quality of service and attention to detail.
I met some amazing people both local and back from the states. Enjoyed relaxing in my room because, well, everything shuts down around 6/8pm (pools close) and all you can do is go to bed. They had good things on the television.
I guess I set my expectations to high based on other resorts. This is a resort you stay at if you do not plan to be doing things at the resort. Excursions were nice and spa was just okay. VERY small and all amenities were it for no more than 4 people to use a day pass at a time.
The best Hotel/Vacation experience EVER! The Staff, food, beverage entertainment. The cleanest property, but I think I would go back for the Staff alone. Customer service was AWESOME! I can wait for my next trip there!
The Hyatt Zilara was a great phenomenal resort to stay at, in Jamaica. The service is top notch, they really do serve from the heart. I have a few shot outs I would like to make lol...Brandon and Winston are an amazing asset to Zilara . Brandon served drinks like it was nobody business, he gave prompt and excellent service. And Winston was there for any question or concerns that we had, ensuring that things ran smoothly for us. John at the gift shop, went beyond what was asked of him, he educated us on the history of Jamaica, and showed off his BIG personality. John has a BIG heart. John touched us in a BIG way. Damion from the spa ensured that me and my friends enjoyed ourselves, and more!! Demar who work at Choicez made great omelettes and always had such a kind attitude and smile. The pregnant lady (forgot name sorry), gave outstanding and prompt service to us. The rooms where clean and luxurious, Antonio made sure our bags were brought quickly, and ensured that we had everything that we needed. Zilara was reliable in making sure we were taken and returned from or excursions that we booked. Food and drinks were off the chain. I would recommend this resort to anyone.!!!!!!!!!!!!
