How to Get There
We are having such a wonderful time here, it’s Day 8. We got upgraded to a quiet partial ocean view room overlooking the golf course, thank you Hilton Rose Hall.
The restaurants and their food (as well as the facilities) is simply first class as is the customer service of Anna Kay and Moses in hotel’s Fresh restaurant and Kevron in hotel’s Seaside Grill restaurant. And for a breakaway from the main hotel complex do try the offsite Three Palms restaurant.
Whether by the main pool, the beach (the sea is lovely, warm and clean!) or the water park you will most definitely enjoy yourselves. And try out a cabana one day on your vacation. And the gym is open 24 7 :-)
I thought of listing the many staff members who have impressed us with both their warm friendliness and great service, but the the three already mentioned deserve unrivalled praise.
So glad that whilst it’s Day 8 that we still have another couple of days’ stay here. Feeling blessed and that a third vacation here will happen here, a great place to vacation!
Adrian is the best bartender. He made sure the girls and I really enjoyed ourselves! He is very personable and friendly, he came up to us when we looked like we weren’t haven’t a good time. Let Adrian fix all your drinks and Hilton Rose! 💛
I had the pleasure of staying at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa and absolutely loved it! The dining options, pools, beach, spa, cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, ease of checking in and out, and my favorite--the daily entertainment, truly impressed me. The computer café was also a big hit, as I worked remotely most of the trip. I can't wait to visit again soon! Beautiful Resort, great location and value.
I will keep this review related to the resort however I want start by mentioning for those considering using Club Mobay at the airport I highly recommend it!!!! They were so friendly and efficient and we bypassed a LONG customs line!! They helped us get our luggage very quickly and quickly had us in their lounge sipping on drinks and snacking at their food buffet! They helped us confirm our rides to and from the airport with our third party transportation as well! Very helpful staff who takes their job very seriously! Great customer service!
Okay! So onto the resort portion:
We checked in for a 7 night stay on 5/12/18. This was a celebration vacation! There were 3 of us in our group of 10 celebrating our 40th birthdays during our stay.
My immediate family consisted of me, my husband, and our 2 sons. During check in we were offered a rate for an upgrade to a one BD suite for which I countered and my rate request was accepted. With the upgrade we were also afforded early check-in which was VERY nice for us as we had arrived to the hotel about 11am. My husband had prearranged for a decorated room, bday cake, card, and champagne. The staff did an excellent job at setting this up and the cake was delicious!!!! Very fresh, moist, and so good! Another friend had this same celebration in their room and their cake was equally good!!!
Our suite consisted of rooms 502 and 503! Absolutely breathtaking view from these rooms!!! This location was quiet as well! We NEVER heard any noise from
the hallways or stairwell (these rooms are right next to the stairwell). The only noise we heard one afternoon was when a wedding was being held on the lawn below, however we didn’t find this a disturbance at all, in fact we enjoyed watching the ceremony!
The rooms had doors between so they could be closed and locked for privacy. Balconies are semi private.
Our room was well taken care of and serviced by Donna!! She was always eager to provide whatever we needed and assist us when we had an issue or concern. If we left a request for extra towels or water she always delivered! She was kind and a very efficient, conscientious worker! We would highly recommend Donna and request her if we were to visit again.
Note: we drink ALOT of water and staff knew this after first couple days and delivered a case of water to us! This was very much appreciated!
One of our biggest complaints are the room keys! They CONSTANTLY deactivated! We were told to keep them away from other cards and phones which we very carefully did but it did NOT resolve the issue. We were at the front desk DAILY and many times more than once in a day to have them replaced or reactivated. I would like to see the hotel use the Hilton app for phone key or maybe consider a code to simplify the process for guests and not need to carry any key or phone.
The hotel grounds were always well kept and clean. At any time of day you could see landscapers trimming palm trees, taking down coconuts, and trimming hedges. The staff was always quick to pick up trash around the beach, pool, and grounds. Staff also were consistently cleaning the seaweed from both beaches!
Both beaches were well kept. Our favorite spot were the chairs under the palm trees at the end of the pier. It gave a great view of the main beach, we could easily turn around and also see the beach where the water sports were, close to Moonstone for Pizza and drinks, close to bathrooms, not too far from Mangoes, and there was a nice breeze here. Note: one day the winds were very strong and we did have to relocate. Wind was too strong that day and sand was getting kicked up. We moved to chairs closer to water park which was more protected from the winds.
Pools were also well kept and clean. There were never enough inner tubes though for the lazy river or slide. I saw other families had brought their own and this was allowed. I would recommend bringing your own! The slides were fun and never crowded, but I’m sure this also was because there weren’t many tubes to go around.
The slides close at 6pm, however our family was allowed in the pool, including the lazy river and hot tub, until late into the evenings.
I highly recommend bringing ALOT of sunscreen! I thought I had packed plenty, but quickly realized you have to reapply every 1-2 hours and it goes fast. We ended up needing to purchase one more bottle before the weeks end. The sunscreen started at $23 in the hotel gift shop, however if you make it over to the Shoppes at Rose Hall I was able to find a bottle of Hawaiian Tropic 50SPF lotion for $15.
The hotel offers a free shuttle to and from The Shoppes at Rose Hall that runs every 1/2 hour starting at 9:30am. Very short commute over. The Shoppes had plenty of your typical souvenirs and as with most islands you can negotiate price. If you are traveling with little ones, be prepared there are lots of adult uncensored items openly on display in the stores. Felt very safe at the Shoppes.
I would highly recommend the restaurant at the end of the shoppes near the water wheel. (sorry can’t recall if I ever saw the name). Authentic Jamaican food; their jerk chicken, pork, and shrimp were incredible! Delicious! Staff were very friendly and quick at this restaurant as well. Nice cover and fans going to help offset the Jamaican heat while you eat.
The food overall at the resort was good. Our first meal at Three Palms was disappointing. 2 in our group had very over cooked steaks, however our second visit was very enjoyable. Our favorite resort restaurant was Luna Di Mare. Loved the anti pasta bar and atmosphere. The crab soup at Seafood Grille was delicious but this was probably our least favorite restaurant of the trip.
The restaurant staff at Three Palms and Luna Di Mare did a great job of singing Happy Birthday! We do love the Jamaican version of Happy Birthday!!!
The adults in our group are early risers. I would have liked if Fresh opened at 6am, rather than 7am. I am not a coffee drinker and didn’t want pastries so I wasn’t as attracted to the cafe as some. We also didn’t like that you were not allowed to take food out of Fresh. So for example we would eat around 7am at Fresh for breakfast and then head to the beach. By 10am we may have wanted a snack but the beach restaurants dont open until 11. You were not permitted to go to the buffet and take food out of the restaurant with you. Not even a banana or fruit that could be carried in your hand. We often would visit the cafe at this time and get any finger sandwiches they had now prepared. But we would have much more enjoyed some fresh fruit while sitting in our lounge chairs.
It was also disappointing to us that the hours to get ice cream are so limited. I believe it starts at noon and stops at 4pm. And on at least one occasion they were out of cones.
Our second disappointing part of our stay (related to be resort itself) was the service at the bars and food locations. Aside from two VERY quick, helpful, and friendly waiters, Aston & Romario, we encountered a lot of slow service with attitude. Some who made us feel like we were a bother. We waited a long time for drinks and food on many occasions. Moonstone Pizza staff never seemed to have the process down efficiently on taking and filling orders properly. On one occasion they just started calling our names again and having to start all over with orders because they had no idea what was completed and out and what was still pending or new.
On one occasion I placed a pick up order with Mangoes at the podium. The staff who took my order was quite unfriendly and when my order was completely given they just walked away without even a word to me. So I went to my seat, waited my usual 15 min (as I had been told at least 3 times prior when ordering here) and returned. I was then informed my order was cancelled because I left the restaurant. I was stunned. This had not happened in all the prior orders we had made that week. I then requested to have it made to which I was told I had to tell them my order again. I did and my order came out twice wrong after.
The pool bar service was extremely slow and seemed understaffed on some days with only one bartender.
I would like to add tho the food was always fresh and good. The pineapple vegetable pizza at Moonstone was probably my fav poolside meal! The quesadilla at Mangoes was excellent as well!
Daily drink specials did not disappoint and we had no complaints about feeling like the alcohol was watered down. My favorite drink was the Bob Marley for sure!!
The staff at the water sports were great! We all enjoyed our first catamaran rides and this was def a highlight for me!!! It was a very windy day and we got to jump some waves! The guide also agrees to bring us a little close to the pier so our friends could video and take pics of us on the catamaran. I love jet skiing so this was right up my alley!! Can’t wait to do a catamaran again!
We had brought our own snorkel gear. The waters were often murky but we did get a couple days clear enough to snorkel. Saw some sea urchin, fish of different types, sea cucumber, crab, and puffer fish. We were warned to not swim too close to the pier as there are eel in the rocks there. The best area we found to snorkel was beyond the ropes on the far beach. The staff at the water sports were very considerate and never brought any boats or catamarans near us while we were snorkeling.
If you have time definitely visit the hammocks! They are along the edge of the property closest to the golf course and I loved spending quiet mornings there! Very peaceful and relaxing!
My husband and friend did golf Cinnamon Hill. They said it was enjoyable and course was well kept and a good course!
The resort has some fun family activities throughout the day. We happened upon the Slogan Trivia game at the main pool one day and our group took first! Was a lot of fun with great crowd participation!
Want to mention (although not resort related) that we had a horrible experience with our third party transportation company: Vacation Express/Sunwing. I attempted to visit their desk 2 days prior to check out to confirm our pick up time. I was told at that time my rep was not in that I could check their book for my arrangement details. I did, but we were flying to US and their book only listed Canadian itinerary and flights. I then was told I had to return the next day because my rep was not in. I was advised she started at 9:30am but to come around 9:40am.
The next day (day before leaving) I returned to office at 9:40am. I was told my rep was not in yet. I was directed to try back again, even suggested to come back every hour to see if she had come in for work yet. Who wants to spend their last day walking to the office every hour?!! After speaking to the concierge desk and then checking in at the tours/transportation office one last time I was then told my rep would not be in today that I could check the book for my arrangements. Checked the same book again to see the information had not been updated and still only had Canadian flight details. I was then given a phone number to call but was told by the hotel concierge that no landline calls were currently going through. I then emailed my travel agent back home who within a couple hours was able to confirm our trip and give us our pick up time.
We were advised to be out front of the hotel at 10:45am for an 11am
Pick up. We showed early. By 11:16-am our transportation still had not shown so hotel staff advised us to get on the Amstar Coach Bus that had stopped to pick up other guests.
I would highly discourage anyone from using Vacation Express/Sunwing! Their service is horrible, irresponsible, and obviously inefficient!
I again, however, would recommend Club Mobay! The service on departure wasn’t nearly as friendly or helpful, however the VIP lounge and its amenities were wonderful! It was SO nice to finish the vacation off in a relaxing lounge with more drinks and food and not a crowded airport!!
Our group had a great vacation and thoroughly enjoyed our birthday week. My family does not anticipate a return trip to this resort, however we have many great memories of the time we spent there.
My room was not ready when arrived and I booked a king size bed and they kept offering me two double beds. We did not receive a map of the resort, no one told us about any of the activities, we were basically given a key.
There isn't an adult section on this resort.
The food is horrible.
You will not receive any eye contact or greeting from the staff working inside the resort.
We didn't have any face towels in our room when we arrived and the Iphone/pod charger is outdated.
I contacted the front desk while I was still in the hotel to voice my concerns and there was never any follow up by the management team. I inboxed them via Facebook and was told someone from the management team would contact me and I had to contact them two days later to remind them I'm still waiting. When the manager finally called back her customer service skills were zero.
