How to Get There
We have recently returned from a 9 night stay at Fairmont Royal Pavilion and can’t speak highly enough about the place.
Situated right on Alleynes beach - one of the best on the island - every room has a sea view and they are truly superb. We stayed in a room on the second floor as that was all that was available when I booked, apparently they are the cheapest rooms but we were very content. The bed is very comfortable, the shower drenches you and there’s a large screen TV if that’s your thing. We really didn’t spend much time in the room but would’ve been happy to if the need had been there. The only slight issue was the noise of the air con that was just cool enough to keep us happy.
Breakfast is pretty good, I’ve had better in the Caribbean but there’s a fair amount of choice including the omnipresent omelette station and some interesting rotating potato options, it’s the first time I’ve tried corn beef hash for breakfast. The birds can be a nuisance but obviously little the hotel can do without putting up nets or making the room internal which would spoil it.
The pool is freshwater and was plenty warm enough for us, indeed I like my pools to be slightly cooler in the humid temperatures we had. Great fun watching the green monkeys swing in the trees around the pool as well.
The beach and sea are right on the doorstep, and I mean inches away - we loved the sound of the crashing waves morning and night and waking up to that view each morning was uplifting. The sea is perfect for swimming but you need to go a little further away for any worthwhile snorkelling, the white sandy sea bed doesn’t attract very much interesting.
The thing that really makes this hotel though is the staff, from the approachable and genial General Manager Jean-Christoph Martinez to our lovely cleaner Barbara - we found practically everyone here to be welcoming and friendly. They really get that it’s important to treat tourists the right way because the island relies on tourism, basic stuff but this is the friendliest of the islands we’ve visited.
Extra special mentions to my man, concierge Shacolby, at 20 years old this fella is going to go a long way in this or any other business he decides to progress with and I’d take him to a West Ham game any time he’s in England. Had some good banter with Shane and Nathan at the pool and also St Clair at the bar - a top man and gentleman. Loads of others but they’re all good people to be honest.
The biggest issue for me was that the lift was broken every other day and that was a problem because I had a twisted ankle while there which made the stairs a real pain. Just something to consider if you have problems getting around.
All in all, great hotel and I’d return in a flash, indeed I wish I were back there now..
The Fairmount Royal Pavilion is a top notch hotel located right on the beach. Our 3rd floor suite faced the water (like all rooms) and was recently updated. Our stay included an awesome buffet breakfast with omelettes cooked to order. The amenities including the fitness center and water sports (kayaks, paddle boards, snorkeling) were excellent. I highly recommend this hotel and location for a relating and romantic vacation.
We have spent a fantastic week at the Fairmont. The staff is very attentive and Concierge Charlene was able to handle every request for dinner reservations and the odd surfing related boat needs!
The beach front restaurant is casual but top notch!
