How to Get There
My boyfriend and I just left after a 3 night stay at Rio Sagrado. We had a fantastic and very relaxing stay. All of the staff were extremely gracious and took care of our every need. We dined in the restaurant every evening, all of our dishes were fresh and delicious.
We took advantage of all the amenities: pool, spa, baby alpaca feeding, drinks at the bar and an arranged tour to Maras and Moray. We were not disappointed by any of the services.
Although every staff member gave great service a few made our stay memorable. Tonya at the front desk was very helpful with arranging our transport and tours.
Pedro, the bellman is never seen without a huge smile!
Juan, our server several times at El Huerta, was fantastic with local advice and recommendations and overall exceptional service.
David at El Huerta and Stephanie at the pool were also great.
We would definitely recommend the hotel and hope to come back someday.
Thank you to everyone at Belmond Rio Sagrado!
This hotel is truly a gem. Located about 20 minutes from Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley, the hotel is great for a quiet retreat in connection with nature. This isn't your typical hotel with tons of rooms and people all over, but a secluded space surrounded by mountains, the Urubamba river, and beautifully kept gardens. We were greeted upon arrival by Ruth and Pedro, who offered us some hot tea and thereafter escorted us in a golf cart to our villa, which was very comfortable and had a phenomenal bathroom and comfortable bed. We had two dinners at the restaurant and both of our breakfasts, which were included, and were taken care of by Eloy and Juan, who provided excellent service. The quality and presentation of the food were great and the selection adequate. We also had an opportunity to feed baby llamas, who come into the property at 8am, enjoy the spa amenities, and even sit by the outdoor fireplace right outside the restaurant for after dinner drinks. Most importantly, Peru Rail's Vistadome stops in the property, giving you the luxury to sleep in a bit more, enjoy a delicious breakfast (or take a packed one if you so wish), and literally show up to the waiting area for the train 5 minutes before arrival.
We stayed here two nights during our two week trip to the Machu Picchu region and Galapagos. From the moment we stepped into the unassuming gates to the Belmond, we knew we were in for a fantastic stay.
Located on the river, the two story property was beautifully integrated into the natural surroundings. Our rooms (as I believe all do) faced the grounds/river.
The restaurant was excellent. We had breakfast both mornings (included) which had a surprisingly large number of choices and order off the menu options. Due to our late arrival our first night, we only dined once, but it was excellent and unlike with many hotel experiences, would have had no desire to seek an off-property dining experience.
The hotel offers a number of optional excursions that, given the time, would have really enjoyed experiencing (rafting, horseback riding, cycling). The morning feeding of the Alpacas/Llamas (???) was an added treat. What pure joy it was to drink our morning coffee and see them frolicking around the grounds.
Our husbands had massages one afternoon after touring and we all enjoyed the indoor and outdoor spa. We booked ahead for the massages and would strongly recommend as it is a small spa with I believe only two treatment rooms. (Our mistake here was assuming that we would arrive earlier from our days excursion and therefore two of us missed our appointments).
In summary, this was my first experience staying at a Belmond Property and was very impressed. If you are trying to decide where to stay, it is definitely worth the splurge. I would compare the experience to Four Seasons/Ritz Carlton.
My family and I were pleasantly surprised with the hotel amenities and landscape. Walking around the grounds, one could gaze off into the distance overlooking the Urubamba River with the majestic mountains located in the background. The grass was as green as the Ireland countryside and lively flowers decorated the stone walls.
Prior to departing Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado, we had to say goodbye to our two alpaca friends that we had fed the previous couple days. The alpaca were overly friendly and had even waited outside of our villa waiting for us to give them some attention the day prior. We were hesitant to say goodbye to these interesting looking animals that only reside in high altitude locations.
This is one of our favorite hotels in Peru. It is beautiful. The hotels grounds are stunning and the staff is incredible. We enjoyed our time by the pool, feeding the alpacas, and of course the spa! It is quiet, peaceful and very relaxing.
