Great hotel but a touch complacent!
Reviewed 2 days ago

My friend booked this hotel as part of our Peru trip and it was my birthday the day we arrived which had been conveyed to the hotel beforehand - yet no mention in our arrival !!
The hotel set in a enclosed area which was tranquil and lovely. Our room was along a winding path accessed by great little buggies - the room itself was wonderful and the best shower in the bathroom looking out into gardens. Our twin room had two really large comfortable beds and they put hot water bottles at night which was a really nice touch !!!we had spa treatments which were lovely and the restaurant staff were terrific - food not that great but breakfast buffet lovely!.
Sitting out in the terrace was peaceful and relaxing and also having breakfast while alpaca’s were in the gardens.
We also took the Belmont train to Cusco for Machu Picchu and the hotel has its own train station- the train journey was amazing and we really enjoyed it - very olde world!!!
Hotel nice but isolated and secluded - if you want tranquility and rest this hotel is good !!

Beautiful hotel in perfect setting

The Belmond Hotel lived up to my expectations. The room was perfect with a beautiful view over the river and valley. Breakfast, which was included, was delicious and had an array of local food. Would highly recommend the hotel.

Stunning location

We stayed at the Rio Sagrado as part of a short tour of Peru
A stunning oasis on the banks of the river Urubamba with its own railway station.
We had a deluxe terrace room with an amazing view and fabulous rain shower. It was a wonderful mix of modern but with beautiful Andean fabrics to add colour.
A lovely touch was the alpaca hot water bottle when we returned to the room after dinner as part of the turn down service.
We ate in the hotel the first night which is a separate review as is the Peru rail trip we took from the station.
Breakfast was superb, great selection with a number of freshly cooked options. Sitting on the terrace having breakfast watching the alpaca's and humming birds was an experience I will never forget.
Because of the altitude and the paths being quite steep the hotel transports you around in golf buggies
Fabulous spa with more great views, wide selection of treatments and a great relaxation area and outside hot tub.
There was nothing I could fault in the hotel facilities and service generally.

The only reason I haven't given the hotel 5 stars was really a small irritation. It was my friends birthday the day we arrived. I had notified the hotel in advance and it was obvious from her passport details but there was no acknowledgment of that fact.
We didn't expect a lot but taking into account this is a 5 star luxury hotel that prides itself on putting customers first it was disappointing.

Beautiful property, lovely stay

We had a great stay at the Rio Sagrado. It was our first stop in Peru. It turned out to be a great place to acclimate. The property itself is beautiful. Rooms were nicely appointed. The outdoor space doesn’t provide a ton of privacy but there is still enough distance between rooms to give appropriate luxury. The restaurant was fabulous for all meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Unique breads, craft cocktails and elegantly presented dishes all made for great experiences. Our servers were also helpful with tips about the town and local surrounds. The spa was nice with the indoor and outdoor hot tubs being gems. Spa services were good. The outdoor pool was also a nice touch. Petting and feeding the alpacas in the morning was fun after breakfast. For those taking the train to Aguas Calientes, there is a stop exactly at the hotel. This was super easy for our transfer!

We loved this place!

The Belmond Rio Sagrado beyond exceeded our expectations! My husband and I stayed here during our honeymoon and were blown away by so many things. The mountain and river views from every room, the most gorgeous hydrangeas I’ve ever seen, an alpaca feeding twice a day, infinity pool, spa with free use of sauna and jacuzzi’s, great restaurant and most importantly the incredible staff. We did not want to leave!

There was a new staff member working at the pool named Estephany who was such a pleasure to talk with. She was beyond friendly and accommodating, making sure our day was the most relaxing ever! She also made us the BEST mojitos. She was one of the many amazing people we met during our stay at the Belmond.
