Thoroughly modern Sacramento stay with craft cocktails, Cali-modern and classic steakhouse fare, an outdoor pool and new spa
Upon entering the Hyatt Regency’s lobby in downtown Sacramento, you’ll quickly forget you’re in a branch of one of the world’s largest hotel chains. A 2011 renovation by design team Looney & Associates lent a luxe minimalism to the common spaces softened by organic elements, from a massive driftwood sculpture to geometric chairs reminiscent of cut gemstones.
Bed and Bath
The hotel’s 503 rooms are contemporary and inviting with soft textures and a warm palette of crimson, cream and goldenrod. Pillowtop mattresses are topped with soft sheets and thick down blankets, the perfect place to hole up and watch that 42” flatscreen or listen to tunes on your iHome docking station.
While the Hyatt’s location is prime for exploring Sacramento, there’s enough on-site to keep you entertained. Have a craft cocktail mixed up for you in the Amourath 1819 bar (think sleek white tabletops, woven wood light fixtures and an art installation of hanging bottles), which hosts wine tastings on Tuesdays and local musical talent like crooner Quinn Hedges on Wednesdays. The hotel’s trademark Dawson’s chophouse, all leather booths and wood paneling, is the perfect spot for a power lunch. Also onsite? NorCal cuisine at Vine Café, a Starbucks for to-go breakfasts, a heated outdoor pool and hot tub and the new Emperia Wellness Spa.
In the Area
Only steps away from the capitol building and convention center in downtown Sacramento, the Hyatt Regency puts you in the center of the city’s action whether you’re there for business or pleasure. The city sits in California’s biggest agriculture regions, so you should browse the farmers markets and head to locavore spots like Hook & Ladder for housemade sausages and pastas and Hock Farm Craft & Provisions for seasonal fare. Drink in the craft brews on tap at LowBrau while sampling their specialty sausages. Walk it off in Old Sacramento, a picturesque throwback to the Wild West. Debate the flavors in saltwater taffy shops, have a pint or two in a saloon, and watch the sunset over the Sacramento River. A 30-minute drive out of Sacramento is Locke Historic District. Spend half a day exploring the country’s only remaining rural Chinatown, built by and for Chinese immigrants.
