Contemporary crash pad in Rome's posh Prati neighborhood with a rooftop terrace overlooking St. Peter's Basilica
A 10-minute stroll from the Vatican and St. Peter’s Basilica, the Orange Hotel is a petite 28-room retreat in Rome’s posh Prati neighbourhood. The vibrant interiors bring together brightly colored furniture, wall art and mod pieces such as a Vespa and ’60s-style armchairs. The guestrooms start from 130 square feet, but they’re livened up by the color orange (bed throws, light fixtures, seat toppers, toiletries), and they’re fitted with space-saving illuminated hanging rails (in place of wardrobes) and electric blinds. Breakfast is served up on the roof in the summer months, and the à la carte restaurant (also on the roof) serves dishes made with DOP-certified (locally grown) ingredients.
In the Area
Start the day at nearby St. Peter’s Basilica. After paying a visit to the Vatican Museums, cross the Tiber River to the lively Piazza Navona and stop for a quick bite or an espresso at Bar del Fico, where you can watch locals compete in a game of chess. Head to the nearby Gelateria del Teatro (65-66 Via dei Coronari) to indulge in some of the best gelato in the city. Then burn off the calories with a stroll along the cobblestone streets, taking in sight after marvelous sight. The Prati neighborhood is home to broad, leafy avenues lined with upscale shops and boutiques; Via Cola di Rienzo is the main drag for a spot of retail therapy.
