Seven-suite stunner on Roatán’s north coast, with an infinity pool, alfresco bar and restaurant and a tennis court
Perched on Roatán’s sunny north coast, between the Caribbean Sea and a protected park, Mayoka Lodge comprises seven sumptuous suites in the main lodge and five stand-alone hexagonal huts hugging an infinity pool that offers Instagram-worthy views of the water below. Suites start at 500 square feet and come with standard features including AC, whirring ceiling fans, rain showers with olive- and almond-scented toiletries, flat-screen TVs and free WiFi. Each suite is individually decorated, with a focus on the sky and sea, in bright blue hues, with high ceilings and sunny windows. The Seagrape Suite has local wood furnishings and a beachfront deck, while the second-floor Mayoka Suite adds a four-poster bed, claw-foot soaking tub, polished hardwood and 180-degree Caribbean Sea views. Included services and amenities check off all the items required for an island idyll: en-suite spa services, free airport pick-up and drop-off, use of the tennis court, sea kayaks and snorkel gear, private dock and pristine beach. Rounding out the resort is the open-air Frangipani Restaurant, which fuses local ingredients with Italian preparations.
In the Area
Sitting pretty off the edge of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, Roatán is a cherished diving destination, and two top-notch dive shops bracket Mayoka’s private dock. Can’t-miss underwater ecosystems include the Sponges, a wall that starts at 15 feet and drops to 130 feet with turtles, eagle rays and nurse sharks meandering among elk horn corals and sponges. Experienced divers should explore Spooky Channel, a 10-story-deep crevasse teeming with life.
