Built from the ground up by a globetrotting Argentine/Belgian couple, this ten-condo hideaway represents a labor of love, from the spacious, artfully decorated condos to the shady pool area with its hammocks. Eco-minded guests will also appreciate such little touches as organic honey soap, fluffy bathrobes and free loaner bicycles, perfect for getting around this casual beach town. The units range from penthouse studios to two-bedroom condo apartments, and each is named for a famous artist. Expect light-filled white rooms decorated with vibrant throw cushions and colorful artworks; some condos come with perks like fully equipped kitchens and outdoor soaking tubs. While the town of Tulum isn’t a white-sand-palm-tree dream, like the more famous beach zone, its restaurant and nightlife scene is fun, and the more laid-back hotel zone is just a short drive or peddle away.
In the Area
Head for the tranquil Tulum beachfront, where the beautiful people congregate and it’s always either yoga time or happy hour. Dine at one of the town’s many hip but casual joints, like Casa Banana where they fire up the Argentine-style grill each night to serve delicious snacks like housemade chorizo and fresh-caught fish, all in the shade of trees hung with lanterns. Join the line for a table at Hartwood, a perpetually mobbed alfresco hot spot run by a former New York chef where the menu changes daily and the food is cooked over an open fire. La Vita e Bella offers a true sand-between-the-toes dining experience, and it offers guests of Villa Geminis a discount. Closer to home, Sale e Pepe, in Tulum town, is known for its pizzas and pastas and generally convivial vibe. Don’t miss a visit to the Mayan ruins, the remains of an ancient city, set fetchingly on a cliff overlooking a curve of azure sea.
How to Get There
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this hotel. The hotel is about five minute walking distance from the centre of town. If you go by bicycle it is about 15 minutes to the beach. It is in a nice location.
Upon arriving to my room after my check in I was surprised how nice this little hotel is. The room was clean and really spacious. I have rented a suite for a two night stay and wish I had more days off to further extend my stay at this hotel. In the mornings they offer breakfast which is included in the fee that you pay. You can serve yourself some coffee or orange juice, or you can do both. The breakfast includes eggs, small portion of beans. They have fruits and it comes with a small piece of sweet bread. It will save you some money by having to avoid to buy breakfast.
The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of the surrounding area.
The hotel also has a small pool which you can enjoy in a really hot day and some hammocks which you can enjoy as well.
The price was inexpensive for all that you get. If you are looking to save money go elsewhere, but if you are looking to be comfortable at night. This place is the place to be at. Go check it out before you decide which place you would like to stay in.
We stayed for a couple of nights in the Gaugin Suite which we really enjoyed. The room was spacious and very clean. Drinking water is provided as well as a fridge to keep your beverages cool. They have a lovely courtyard with a pool.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. They provide great restaurant recommendations and advice for tours. The passes to the beach clubs are a plus. We rode the bikes to one of the beach hotels and chilled there for a lunch. Only one minor thing, some of the bikes are very old and rusty, which made the ride to the beach a little painful. I guess we could have rented better ones, but again they were provided complimentary. So it was ok.
Breakfast was also included but a little repetitive if you stay a long time. However super fresh products. Great value for a stay in Tulum.
I haven’t written a review on TripAdvisor for years but the Villas certainly deserves one. I can’t say I loved Tulum, but I loved staying here. We booked one of the upper level penthouses and loved every aspect of it. So well appointed with robes, a Nespresso machine, ac, and a wonderful outdoor tub (which took some time to fill up but it was lovely to take a soak after dinner with a glass of wine). The compact courtyard is really tasteful and beautifully maintained and the complimentary breakfast was a great bonus. If you’re up for it, the town’s bars are only 5 mins away and they also provide bikes to ride to the beaches. Super nice people. Super nice hotel. Book it!!
I have no complaints about my stay at Villas Geminis. Here were all of the free things provided with our rate: bikes, breakfast and a voucher for another hotel so that we could go to the beach and use the chairs and amenities there. The pool is small but adequate. The rooms are very large and include a fridge. The hotel is quite central - easy access to restaurants and only a few kilometers from the ruins and beach. Overall it was a great stay.
We stayed at this hotel via Air BnB and were so appreciative of the help that the hotel staff gave us in terms of recommendations and descriptions, as well as the excellent daily breakfasts.
Our room was a 2story condo with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. We did not use the kitchen except for preparing mangos (from the grocery) for snacks. Our room also had a small balcony with a hammock that I laid in one morning when i woke up early. The beds and showers were comfortable.
The hotel is in a good location, being easy to find from the highway, close to the beach, and within walking distance of the downtown and bars. There is a cute side street two blocks away with some bars and restaurants, and we also enjoyed walking beyond the plaza and watching locals play soccer and basketball.
