How to Get There
This is the first review I have ever left regarding a vacation. The only reason I’m leaving the review is because of the service my wife and I received from Pedro (beach server). Pedro is an excellent young man that when above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and always had a drink in our hand. Everything from small talk to informing us of Mexican customs and traditions. He made the vacation!!! If there are awards given to staff members for individual contributions, he deserves it!
The resort was beautiful and clean. Plunge pool was a great addition. Entertainment at night was nice and the lobby was awesome as of an evening. The buffet left something to be desired but the other restaurants were good!
We had a pretty good four day stay at this resort. Having stayed at many Dreams resorts in the Caribbean, we pretty much knew what to expect.
This resort does have great, spacious rooms. Being a smaller resort, there always seemed to be chairs by the pool and beach available which was a great departure for the get-up-early-and-grab-your-space issues at other Dreams that we have experienced. The spa, while expensive, (totally expected) was really nice.
The restaurant food was above par as compared to other resorts, such as Dreams Punta Cana, Las Mareas, and La Romana. The World Cafe, however, was seriously lacking in comparison. On only one day of the four was warm breakfast meat served, (sausage - absolutely no bacon!) and it was such a smaller spread than any other Dreams resort I've been to. Seriously disappointing. And... the food was just ok there too, which was such a bummer.
Most of the staff we encountered were wonderful. Our room was cleaned promptly mid-morning, and snacks were replenished as well which was great. In addition, bar staff, and other resort staff were a general delight.
The big issues we had with this resort were these:
1. Big problems during check in. Make note: resort check in time is at 3pm. We got in early, at 10am and for all of my past experiences with Dreams, they usually make a pretty good effort to get you in around 12 or 1. Well, we were brought in and checked in, and given a pager. They said hopefully our room would be ready earlier than 3. Ok, fine. Well, we ended up waiting until 3:10. A lot of that time was spent in their Preferred Club lounge, directly in front of the check in desk. We poked them around 1, and our room was still not ready. So, we continued to wait, with our pager right in front of us the whole time. At 3:10 I went back up to the desk and asked if our room was ready and they said they had paged us an our and a half ago. But we had been sitting right there! Our original check-in lady walked past us several times - and made eye contact. Not only that, but there were tons of families waiting - more than I've ever seen at any other Dreams, all waiting for their rooms. It was ridiculous. They offered apologies, but that was about it. Totally frustrating.
2. Check out was fine, but no one was helping with departures. We were waiting for BD Travel for transport to the airport, and basically... all of the employees up front were concerned with and devoted to getting people in the door for their sales pitches. We were sitting with several other guests who were just as frustrated as we were, that we basically had to police the door ourselves for our rides. It was total chaos.
3. I always get Preferred Club. But at this resort, quite honestly, I'm not sure it was worth it. The Preferred Club service was seriously lacking here, firstly as described with our check in experiences, but also the reserved area for the beach was different than I'd seen. For the first row of chairs, even in Preferred Club, you had to reserve a spot. Also, no cabanas for Preferred Club. All of the Cabanas were reserve only - a huge departure from their flagship in Punta Cana and super disappointing.
I'm not sure I would stay at this resort again, and quite honestly I'm thinking of switching brands at this point. I'm left wondering if I can get more value for my money. For example, I took a Royal Caribbean cruise back in February and I was seriously WOWED by the service and attention to detail. This simply does not happen at these resorts, and it's pretty disappointing. The check in issues, logistics issues, and lack of continuity didn't happen on Royal Caribbean, and quite frankly, it was refreshing.
Exceptional service from some great staff at the Dream Riveria. Efrain was our waiter by the pool and took great care of us all day and every day. At the pool we were entertained by Charlie, Alberto, Daniel, Gigi and Alex. They were so great with our kids and included them in everything and made them feel special. Because of these excellent staff members we will be back. Dreams Riveria you did not disappoint. Special thank you to Charlie and Alberto who always made time for us adults too and kept us informed and always had time to chat with us. We want to bring them home to Canada with us :)
I'm not big on writing reviews but it’s essential that I speak on the amazing customer service that Nico Zuniga displayed during my entire stay. This young man provided a great experience for me, my best friend and every customer that I observed at the World Café. Please change the belts on the treadmills .
Was a little crazy at the airport, but from the moment we wert greeted at the Dreams all inclusive until the day we left, can not think of a thing that I would have changed, The rooms, amenities, beach's bars and restaurant's were all 5 Star. Will be back!
