How to Get There
This resort is our favorite place to be and it keeps getting better and better. The new restaurant Suki was a great addition and the seaweed barrier seems to be working. The nightly shows in the disco were good before, but have also improved. We loved the tequila and ceviche tasting out on the pier too.
We are so happy we decided to attend the "art of touch" workshops. They were definitely a high point of our trip!
All the staff seem genuinely happy to be there, but we especially enjoy seeing Esteban the bell man. His warm greetings set the tone for the entire trip.
The play-makers, Shirley, Candace, Kia, Jazz, Javi, Charlie, Mike, and Josh were so much fun. Josh especially took time out to make sure we were comfortable and having a perfect vacation. We really enjoyed meeting him.
Abidas is our favorite bartender and he recommended some excellent tequilas.
We are already looking forward to next year!
Although this place really knows how to throw a party, we thought it was overpriced and over rated for what you get. I know people don’t go here hoping for a “quality hotel” but they don’t even keep up with the basics. We had no hot water in the shower for 24 hours. After they “fixed it” we had either scalding hot water or ice cold water in the shower no matter how much I tried to set it in the middle. We requested a room change which we got but they didn’t bring our luggage to the new room until we asked twice. Both the old and new rooms had TVs that cut out many times during every program we tried to watch. Everyone just said, “That’s Mexico.” The all inclusive food was just “OK” in my opinion. Their specialty restaurants were not as good as the cafeteria. It was our first time there and we received no tour, no orientation and no advice upon check-in. The worst part was they kept trying to sell us their $20,000 “membership” which is not a timeshare (they kept telling us). For $20,000, you are entitled to get 30% off of room rates for future stays. The gimmick is that they raise the room rates every year (they are already 3 TIMES the rate of the Cancun Ritz Carlton) at $600+ a night so the 30% off in future years when they raise the rates will be back to where it is now including the discount. There are lots of members so if you aren’t a member they give you a different color wrist band and get treated like an interloper by the hotel staff. I believe their membership is ultimately a Ponzi scheme which will implode when the room rates eventually get so high that nobody will go even with the member discount. We visited the other Desire property and found the staff, the food and the property FAR superior to Pearl so I advise going there if you want to visit Desire.
We really enjoyed our return to this clothing optional resort in Cancun. We felt overall that the atmosphere is just so welcoming, and so is the staff. From Jose who picked us up at the airport to Dias who drove us back a week later, everyone was great. In particular, our "butlers" Carlos and Hector, the kind staff in the front (thank you, Sandy!), Miguel by the pool, and special shout outs to our bartenders Jairo, Gustavo, Eddy, Emilio, Jesus, and Luis. All great guys, all took wonderful care of us and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Oh, and Puerto Morelos is a very cool and laid back little town. Take a half hour walk down the beach from the resort and you're there. We will be back!
