What To Know

- Room Service
This beachfront, all-inclusive resort has 540 rooms and suites—with no kids allowed. That means no splashing of little feet in the legendary pool, which winds throughout the lush gardens. No sunburned youngsters hiding out in the palapas on the white sand beach. And no high chairs in the eight different restaurants: from buffet-style Mar y Tierra and Le Marché for breakfast and lunch to Mexican La Hacienda and fine dining option The Corner for dinner. Other restorative pursuits include getting a massage, facial, or ritual treatment in the spa, lighting up a cigar at the Partagas bar, or supping margaritas at one of the property’s well-appointed bars.
In the Area
An oasis unto itself, the Valentin Imperial Maya is a 25 minute-drive from the nightlife of Cancun. Which means it’s also ideally situated for exploring the ancient civilization of the Mayas at the ruins of Tulum (the most well-known, seafront temple), Coba (which boasts the highest Mayan temple in the country), or, a bit farther a field, the vast complex of Chichen Itza. And for snorkeling and swimming with the dolphins, guests head to Xel-Ha, a “natural aquarium” and marine life theme park.
How to Get There
This was our 2nd time to this resort and it probably won't be our last! The staff, food, accommodations, and drinks once again were above and beyond what we would expect in a resort.
We arrived January 25th for our 11 day stay. Last vacation we stayed for 7 days and extended it this time. Felt we didn't get as much time to relax when losing 2 days of travel at the beginning and end of the vacation. With a four hour delay with our flight, we arrived at the resort much later than expected. Check in was fast and easy, Within 20 minutes we were checked in and in our room.
We spent a majority of our time at the main pool, and enjoyed watching the GO Team. They were amazing and always took the time to talk to us, but weren't pushy when declining to participate in activities. Edgar, Juliann (cootchy cootchy!), Xavier and Emmanuel always took extra care when they saw us and continued conversations that were discussed on previous days. Karla was always our waitress at the pool bar, and was always attentive and quick to bring us drinks.
We visited every restaurant (some twice) but were unable to make reservations to the Hibachi (we were always late trying to make reservations- so it wasn't the resorts fault that we didn't make it there). Both times we went to Taman Sari, Cristel was our server and made suggestions on what to order and she didn't disappoint! By far our favourite restaurant at the resort. Our second favourite restaurant was La Hacidena and Edgar took very good care of us! Amazing food at all restaurants (even lunch and breakfast buffets)- never disappointed!
Our room was great, with only minor issues- clock wouldn't hold the time and bathroom door handle was loose. When we called to notify them of these minor issues there was a staff member at our room within 10 minutes taking care of the issue. Housekeeping staff kept our room immaculate, and we always looked forward to the turn down service so we could see what activities were planned for the following day.
Overall and amazing experience again. Only 2 suggestions we would recommended to the resort to make it top notch.
1. We spent a lot of time in the sports bar and felt the equipment needed some upgrades and more variety of games to play at the tables. Also tennis equipment needs to be updated.
2. When we visited in 2017 they had photographers around the resort taking pictures, and if you liked you could go and purchase the photos. Now, you have to book a photo session at an upfront cost. In 2017 were purchased 3 pictures, and this year we didn't book any sessions. Would be nice to bring that back.
To summarize, we absolutely LOVE this resort and recommend to to anyone who is looking for a trip to Mexico. We WILL be back for visit #3!
We stayed in building 3 and our concierge took the entire experience to another level. His name is Miguel Angel. You should ask for a room in the building he is at that week. He took care of all of our reservations checked daily to make sure we had everything we needed or just wanted. He also recognized that we were on our 5th stay and made us feel special. We had not been to the Mexican restaurant since it was remodeled. I enjoyed it the most of all of the restaurants. We will be returning in May. The only negative I would point out is in the French restaurant you should plan on being there for hours. They either need more staff or get the ones working now to not stand around and pay attention to the tables. If you decide you like it enough to become a frequent visitor go by and see the concierge in the main lobby and become a member of the Valentin family membership and get loyalty points. If you don't ask while you are on the property they won't give you the points and no credit for past trips. You can trade points for upgrades ect. Great property. Beutiful grounds.
This was our 3rd time to this resort and we came back because we love the people and the resort. Once again it was absolute paradise. The sights and sounds are amazing. They are always keeping the resort clean and the vegetation manicured and it shows, it's beautiful.
We spent most of our time there by the main pool on the quiet end. We spent one day on the active end of the main pool and loved watching the GO team do their job. They are very interactive and do a great job. Even if you don't participate in the activities it's still fun to watch.
We went to a couple of shows the resort puts on in the Theater and they were well rehearsed and choreographed, and the food at the Caribbean night was good too.
We would like to mention and thank a few of the staff that made our stay enjoyable. First we would like to mention Miguel Pech, we corresponded by email for a request of a cabana by the pool and he went above and beyond what we expected. We always enjoyed seeing Yolanda and Edgar at anytime during the day or night, they were working and we were having fun but they always had time to say Hi and have a short talk. It was great seeing Naomi again at Le Marche, she remembered us which was nice. She had received a promotion since we were there last and it's well deserved. During the day, Edgar and Elio (pool) were amazing, very attentive and friendly. Alfonso at Le Marche was very nice and made sure I had my 1921. Armando (manager) was also nice to interact with. To everyone else who helped us in any way, Thank you.
We really had a great time there, quiet when we wanted, party time when we wanted.
Thanks to everyone there, we cant wait till next year.
We just returned from our first trip to VIM. We read many reviews prior to booking and were very encouraged by the high rating. Here are the CONS and PROS:
CONS - CHAIR & FLOATY WARS. Unless you pay the extra for the privilege package you have to be up early to claim a chair by the pool No later than 8:30. Typical chair wars that most people hate. RESTAURANT SERVICE - There were some amazing servers and all servers were polite and gracious. We and many other guests experienced minor issues with service during dinner. Mainly delays after seating or between courses. There appeared to be many new staff. I would attribute the service issues to the oversight of the wait staff. Never worked in a restaurant so not qualified to say anymore. HOUSEKEEPING - Turndown service was minimal however you could pay for additional if you wanted. Mini bar was not restocked most days. Towels and facecloths not switched up a few times. That's it for cons. These reasons are the only things that keep this resort from being a solid 5 star in our opinion.
PROS - FOOD Best AI breakfast we have experienced. All restaurants above average in food quality. BARS - Top shelf booze and great bartenders at the swim ups. Don Miguel and Sports Bar were fantastic. RESORT GROUNDS were extensive. Read lots about how much walking there was. Not an issue. We enjoyed the five minute walks between rooms, pools restaurants and beach. If you have mobility issues there are plenty of shuttles at your beckon call. The grounds were immaculate. Staff maintaining vegetation constantly. Infrastructure was well maintained. Minor issues like burnt out lights were addressed immediately. STAFF - all staff were generally happy. The most pleasant staff we have ever seen at a resort. Management is doing something right. Have been to five stars were staff were less happy. LACK OF CONGESTION - even though this is a large resort that was at capacity we never felt crowded or had long waits. I'm not sure how they manage to do it but is was very comforting and added to the relaxed vibe. SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE - There are quiet areas, hopping areas and everything in between. IN SUMMARY we would highly recommend this resort. Our first day we were a little disappointed based on the reviews we had read but soon became very enamoured with the staff and relaxed atmosphere. There are MANY MANY guests who return year after year to this resort. That says much more than this review.
This place is absolutely the best in Cancun airport arrival area when I compare it to all other 4.5-5 star all inclusive resorts we’ve been to. That being said we have been traveling to Mexico for years. A different spot every year. But now we are out of top 10 resorts in the Cancun flight arrival area. So this is our second time here, once in 2014 and so glad to go come back. Just got back from a 7day stay with two other couples.
No major complaints at all.
Beach- Half of it is rocky unswimable, the other half beautiful clean from seaweed and no drop offs very easy to get in and out perfect conditions. Seating could be an issue if your a late sleeper because of the “illegal” towel game that isn’t policed at all. (Would of loved to gather all the chair saver towels on our last day and put them in a pile. haha) Slim chance on gettin a papula unless you upgrade to privilege status. @65 a day pp. or book it months before you go away at $43 a day But seems that they reserve for hopes you upgrade to privilege. Benefits would be close walk to bar and bathrooms, and a mattress to lay on with two lounge beds.
Drink service on the slower side but not a far walk for a beverage.
Pool areas- Are also very clean and same issues with the towel game. Main pool area more of an area where activities occur, on the louder side. If looking for quite spot go behind gold room areas to lazy river pool are quite.
All food was excellent (mind you it is all-inclusive) some meals where more memorable then others but overall you won’t be disappointed.
We stayed in a gold superior suite and was very clean, with a pool view, always stocked fridge, needed nothing and if you did, it was a very short wait.
Grounds- amazing, clean, lobby area nicest of any we’ve been. Put it this way, talking to a person and he actually complained that it was too clean. Lol.
If your not a walker you could always get a golf cart there is quite a bit of walking but filled with beautiful landscaping and soft music playing which makes enjoyable.
Nightlife- always something going on, no show was worth an Emmy but all entertaining.
Bars- Top shelf booze of all kinds, Service was great, big complaint would be bartenders overall need MUCH better training on making drinks and consistency. Something as simple as a margarita, If you had every bartender make one, each one would taste different, even at times the same bartender would make the same drink different.
Service- I don’t think you will find a more friendly staff ALL employees would greet you with a smile, I mean all of them, right down to the landscapers, maint. persons, even the guy running the seaweed tractor. Wait staff at every restaurant where top notch 5star service.
Also worth noting is watching people not tipping, nowere does their website claim that tips are included. If your going to spend +4K on a vacation bring $100-$200 for tipping their service is well worth it.
Complaint-To Reservation department. They need better training to their policies when the problems occur because of their negligence at check in. My issues would create another 1K words and I don’t think it would create the right review for this top quality resort because it’s more of an internal issue then a resort review.
