This beachfront, all-inclusive resort has 540 rooms and suites—with no kids allowed. That means no splashing of little feet in the legendary pool, which winds throughout the lush gardens. No sunburned youngsters hiding out in the palapas on the white sand beach. And no high chairs in the eight different restaurants: from buffet-style Mar y Tierra and Le Marché for breakfast and lunch to Mexican La Hacienda and fine dining option The Corner for dinner. Other restorative pursuits include getting a massage, facial, or ritual treatment in the spa, lighting up a cigar at the Partagas bar, or supping margaritas at one of the property’s well-appointed bars.
In the Area
An oasis unto itself, the Valentin Imperial Maya is a 25 minute-drive from the nightlife of Cancun. Which means it’s also ideally situated for exploring the ancient civilization of the Mayas at the ruins of Tulum (the most well-known, seafront temple), Coba (which boasts the highest Mayan temple in the country), or, a bit farther a field, the vast complex of Chichen Itza. And for snorkeling and swimming with the dolphins, guests head to Xel-Ha, a “natural aquarium” and marine life theme park.
How to Get There
If you are a teacher and need a break from school chaos, this is the place to go. The Valentin Imperial is a retreat with a wonderful beach, fantastic food/drinks, clean pools and awesome hotel rooms. I have taken a teacher trip to the Valentin for the past 3 years and the stay has been absolutely perfect. The staff members always make you feel welcomed as if you are coming home. Joselo and Jesus are extremely personable employees who always make an effort to greet us during their busy day. This year we traveled with someone who had a medical condition and Joselo made sure she was taken care of the entire trip.
For the beach, it was well kept with no seaweed or garbage. I love that the bali beds have your name on them so there is no confusion. Jerrod who is the manager on the beach, was always nice and made sure we had everything we needed. Also there is always a cooler filled with bottled water before stepping on to the beach.
I don't think there is a bad room at the Valentin. Every room has its own special touches. The beds are so spacious and clean. I am very picky about my bed spread and pillows in hotels. They were clean and simply inviting. Our rooms were always cleaned by the time we came back in the afternoon. The bathrooms are huge and had clean towels daily. Refrigerator was filled of water, soda, and beer along with lays potato chips. Our room had a spacious patio.
If you are lucky to get placed in a walk out room they had waiters that came by frequently asking if we wanted something to drink and or something to eat (Shrimp burgers are awesome). When we came back from the nightly events, our beds were turned down with chocolates on our pillows.
All of the restaurants are outstanding, with great service. Not having to make a reservation for dinner every night is great. There was never a rush to try to make it back in time for dinner, it all felt very low pressure. There was never a long wait for dinner either. My favorite restaurant was the Indonesian. The salmon and sea bass chips are my favorite with the fruit salad with caramel, strawberry and chocolate syrup for dessert. My second favorite restaurant was the Italian. Our waiter, Raul, was fantastic. A manager, Angel, is the most loving and kind person that you will ever meet. He also is a person that remembers your name making your visit back more exciting. I also enjoyed the all you can eat sushi, made to order.
Also it was not go unnoticed the hard workers who work the grounds, like Wilber. He is an amazing person to talk with and get to know. He such a nice person and wonderful family man. It is amazing to see so many workers smiling and being so polite.
The Valentin Imperial experience is perfect for a quick or long vacation. I would like thank all the employees at the Valentin for their wonderful service. I know you all put in so many hours to make sure we, the guests, are taken care of. I have already booked my next trip in June 2020.

We have used this at other resorts, but opted out for this stay. Our check-in went very quickly, and within 15 minutes of arrival, we were entering a golf cart to our room. The resort is VERY large (540 rooms), but so spread out that it may never seem crowded. Every dinner we went to, we were seated immediately, without reservations. Never more than 1-2 people waiting for bar service, yet during our stay, they were at 95% occupancy! The Bali beds at the beach/pool are reserved for Privilege guests, although most were unused during our stay. As your concierge (located in each building) about reserving one for the day!
We stayed in the entry level suite this time (stayed Emerald Junior Suite during our first stay). We were in building 3, which was located about a 5 minute walk from the lobby/restaurant area, and a 5-7 minute walk to the beach area, and the ‘quiet pool’. Our view was of the jungle, but the balcony was nice to sit on and relax. We visited late October, which apparently is MOSQUITO season… either bring a small bottle, or the usually have a can at the outdoor restaurants and bars
Rooms – (trip advisor would not allow links to video reviews of 2 room categories).
The Deluxe Junior Suite (see video) was adequate for our needs. A nice sitting area with a loveseat, and a table for 2 along with a king sized bed. The mini-bar is stocked with Dos Equis, Coors Light, a selection of sodas, and water. The resort has moved away from plastic water bottles in the room, to using GLASS bottles. They prefer you keep those in the room. Room also has Bluetooth so you can sync your device and listen to your music through the speakers in the ceiling. Bathroom in this unit does NOT come with a bidet, but the tub does have jets if you desire a little jacuzzi. All buildings except the Emerald suites (2 story) are equipped with elevators.
The Emerald Suites are the oceanfront suites, with a jacuzzi in the corner with windows you can open to hear the ocean and feel the breeze.
There are several levels in between, however due to occupancy being so full during our visit, I was only able to tour 2 room types.
Breakfast has 3 choices, a smaller buffet near the front of the resort, the large buffet with the tropical view, and room service. There are no ala carte breakfast offerings. Both restaurants seemed to have similar choices, so use whichever one works best for you. Bar service is available at either restaurant AND with room service!
Lunch has the same 3 choices, buffet, or room service. Dress code for breakfast and lunch are simple. No wet bathing suits or bare feet.
Dinner has 8 options (*1 is an upcharge), the dress code for all dinners is going to be slacks for men with non-sandal shoes, and a collar shirt. Women, dresses, skirts, dress slacks and non-sandal shoes. Dinner is a time to dress up and enjoy your luxury environment.
Mar & Terra – near the beach where the breakfast buffet is, semi-open seating (no a/c). This was actually I thought the best meal of my stay. The filet mignon was perfect!
L’Alsace – French. Escargot was different than I have had anywhere else, but good. Had the filet here, not as good as the M&T.
Ginger – Japanese. Teppanyaki is VERY limited seating. Must be at your concierge about 830 to get in line for them to arrive a 9AM. Only take reservations for SAME DAY. Privilege members will have priority. Most days by 910AM, it was sold out. We did the table service, tried the Sushi, it was very good.
Tamansari – Indian/Indonesian. A great place to try out some different offerings. Food here was excellent for our taste.
La Hacienda – Mexican. Had appetizers and desert here after a show. The tacos were very interesting, NOTHING like you get in the states!
There is also the L’Olive (Italian – we did not try this one), and the Corner ($$) Crab legs, angus prime, Wagyu Kobe and such.
One-two nights weekly they will have a theme night with a buffet/show combined. Whether permitting, it is outside, otherwise in the theater. We did the Halloween night buffet, it was very disappointing. Limited selection of items, most of which seemed cold. After the show, we ended up at the Mexican restaurant!
Theater – live performances several nights weekly. Michael Jackson, Burlesque and the Halloween party were the ones we attended. A nice evening of entertainment, drink service is available.
Pools – there are 2 pools, but split into 3. There is the noisy pool, the PARTY pool, and the quiet pool! The noisy & party are two ends of the same pool. Both have swim-up bars. The party pool is where the daily activities will take place… aerobics, Zumba, volleyball, games, etc., and loud music.
The GO entertainment staff will keep you jumping! The noisy pool is the opposite end. You can hear some of the music, but for the most part this is quiet. The Go staff visits here occasionally requesting others to join in the fun! Bali beds are here, but reserved for Privilege guests. Otherwise plenty of chairs.
The QUIET pool is the golden pool. A VERY LONG narrow section of pool located in front of the golden swim up suites. One side of the pool is reserved for them, while the other side has palapas/loungers. We stayed here 2 days, and didn’t have a problem finding a seat. There is however only one bar here, but servers are walking up/down providing drink service. You are welcome to swim over to it if you can’t wait.
Beach – nice and CLEAN. Very little seaweed was present during our stay, they do a great job of keeping it down. The beach itself has 2 areas… Privilege, and the rest. The Privilege area has all reserved bali beds and is close to the bar. The ‘rest’ seems shoved off to the end of the resort near the turtle nesting area. The volleyball takes place in this area, there are plenty of palapas, and the bar servers are great! (they do a LOT of walking, feel free to tip them well!). Because the beaches are federal property, you WILL have lots of vendors trying to sell their wares. Buy at your own discretion, feel free to haggle… and by all means if you are not interested, tell them NO GRACIAS and they will be on their way.
Service – in my opinion, the service has lessened since our previous trip (2012). This is most likely due to the change in staff. The majority of people we talked with have been there 2 years or less. For the most part they do a fantastic job of being friendly and attentive, although some may be better than others, and some may be worse. Overall they do try very hard to ensure your stay is one that will make you want to return again and again!
Guests – very few people we spoke with were first timers. Many had been visiting the resort for years… some also noticed the decline in service. We talked with one couple who were there for 2 weeks, and another that was there for 2 MONTHS! And most people who leave, have already booked their return!
The little things that (to me) set Valentin apart from other resorts…
The cold cloth & champagne upon arrival.
They unfold your napkin on your lap when seating you (even at the buffet).
The concierge will try to call you by name.
DRINK SERVICE!! Whether on the beach, or by the pool, they will come to take your drink orders, as well as food (golden pool). We have been to NUMEROUS other resorts where this simply does not happen!
Are Vacation started October 22 for 10 fabulous days! We were with another couple which they have been there last year and loved.
From check in to all the hard working staff and Go team Was perfect.
Check in was fast and met all are needs. On arrival they really do treat you like a king.
We stayed in Building 5 bottom floor. Very large room with all the amenities that you need. My wife was not a fan of the Shampoo or Soaps. Smell was something to get used too. Not a big deal, she brought her own any ways.
Food was Great! We have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts along the Riviera Maya area and this resort so far has been the best.
Love all the activities they have plus quiet areas if you like quiet time.
I think Food was every where we walked. Always snacks they had available. Very impressed. Are favorites would have been Indonesian and Mexican . Plus the Caribbean buffet was excellent But to us all the food was Excellent. Breakfast and lunch buffets were Grand to us specially if you ate up by the lobby area. The service at the Indonesian restaurant was fabulous. Shout out to the staff there!
We also love the lay out of the resort. Plenty of walking areas and beautiful sights to look at.
The Beach area was also very nice Swimming was sometime hard to do there because of Red Flag days. Seaweed didn't seem to be a big problem either.
swimming pools are very large and tons of areas to swim at.
Loved the tennis courts and chefs Garden area! didn't play tennis though ! Darn.
Martini Bar was one of are favorites.
Plus at the Mexican dinner place we had one of the best Margaritas ever! Spicy but loved it.
I could go on and on about this place! Just loved it!
They also gave us a little Cake for celebrating are Anniversary in are room plus champagne!
Another detail that my wife and I really like was the espresso coffee pot in the rooms! Loved!
The restaurants for breakfast made Fabulous Cappuccinos too! Wife would always have one.
So with all that said! Yes, we will be back! Next year here we come !
