Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya– All Inclusive – Adults Only
What We Love
- One of the largest pools in Mexico—complete with swim up bar
- Its location on Playa Secreto, a half-mile long white sand beach
- Nine bars to choose from—including beachfront, poolside, cigar, martini, and one with live entertainment
What To Know
- There are eight restaurant options for dinner, but only two for lunch
- Restaurants have varying dress codes; none seat tables larger than six people
- Chairs around the main pool fill up fast. Get there early to claim a spot
- Free WiFi
- Handicap Accessible
- Parking On Site
- Room Service
This beachfront, all-inclusive resort has 540 rooms and suites—with no kids allowed. That means no splashing of little feet in the legendary pool, which winds throughout the lush gardens. No sunburned youngsters hiding out in the palapas on the white sand beach. And no high chairs in the eight different restaurants: from buffet-style Mar y Tierra and Le Marché for breakfast and lunch to Mexican La Hacienda and fine dining option The Corner for dinner. Other restorative pursuits include getting a massage, facial, or ritual treatment in the spa, lighting up a cigar at the Partagas bar, or supping margaritas at one of the property’s well-appointed bars.
In the Area
An oasis unto itself, the Valentin Imperial Maya is a 25 minute-drive from the nightlife of Cancun. Which means it’s also ideally situated for exploring the ancient civilization of the Mayas at the ruins of Tulum (the most well-known, seafront temple), Coba (which boasts the highest Mayan temple in the country), or, a bit farther a field, the vast complex of Chichen Itza. And for snorkeling and swimming with the dolphins, guests head to Xel-Ha, a “natural aquarium” and marine life theme park.
How to Get There
This was our sixth visit to the Valentin. The quality of service and the outstanding people who work there continues to bring us back. The food is top rated. There are usually a short wait after 7:30 at some of the restaurants. But every one are worth the wait. We loved the evening entertainment. I highly recommend a massage on the beach. Nothing like hearing the waves in the background. We will make it #7 next year!
My husband and I stayed here for our 1st anniversary. This place is so beautiful and the staff treats you so well. I can't say anything wrong about this place so stop looking and book this resort. You will not regret it.
we will be going back, best place i have stayed at in over 15 trips, easy to get to from airport, room was great, ocean was a little rough so we couldn't go in it but pool and everything else was great, would definitely recommend doing the preferred package
Overall a good big resort. Depending on your room location, it can be quite a walk to certain places. It is an adult only resort, but feels like a family oriented resort (which we liked). Not too wild, which was great for what we like (late 20's). In General, the Food, Beach, Grounds and Service were very good. Room was bad (old looking).
Only reason I cannot give this resort a 5 star is due to the room and check-in experience. Nonetheless, we did not spend that much time in the room. Also, we did not like the fact that there was NO MAIN BUFFET at night. We didn't always want to dress up for supper, but had no choice if we wanted to eat. DRESS CODE IS VERY STRICT AT THIS RESORT. It was confusing and my fiancé was not happy. We ordered room service a few times, but would have preferred buffet. Also, there is not enough palapas at the beach and the pool (even though there is enough space for them). This should be the resort's responsibility instead of guests fighting over them (Towel Game).
DETAILS PER CATEGORY:
Check-In - Was BAD. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience at check-in which set for a bad first impression. Everything bad happened on our first day and we questioned changing resorts. However, we decided to stay for our whole week and we were happy afterwards.
We checked in around 10AM with Angel. He made us feel like our room was not good and encouraged us to upgrade. When we were trying to upgrade, the prices were ridiculous. He kept changing his story about prices and offered a 30% discount. He then kept changing his story about what was available, and then confirmed that he could give us a 50% discount, but still at 500 USD. We wanted to think about it while we ate lunch (waiting for our room to be ready by 3PM which is common), but once we got back, he could no longer offer the 50% discount. Anyway...we felt as though he kept lying to us and was simply using heavy sales tactics. He was not friendly and did not smile. He lacked a bit of customer service. Again, it was not a good first impression, especially when you have already paid lots of money to be there.
We stayed in building 1 and it is close to the lobby/restaurants, but far from the beach. The room was very basic (nothing nice about it). Our Maid did a great job cleaning it (1118). It got very loud at night since the lobby / parties were right beside our room (not good for a light sleeper). We tried to change rooms and spoke to Angel again... there was nothing available. And his story changed multiple times within 10 minutes.
BEACH - BEAUTIFUL - Nicest I have seen in Mexico.
Half of the beach is rocky and the other half is beautiful. The waves can get quite big, but fun for us!
Not enough shaded areas at the beach and the towel game was strong.
The resort should have more palapas on the nice part of the beach and another beach bar (on the nicer side). A toilet on the beach could be useful as well. It is quite a long walk to a bathroom if you are in a hurry.
POOL - BIG NICE POOL
Chairs were comfortable, Service was great.
Not enough shaded areas (should add WAY MORE palapas by the pool). Sadly there are very limited palapas. This should be the resort's responsibility instead of forcing guests to play the *towel game*. We are on vacation and shouldn't have to worry about waking up early to get a shaded spot.
GROUNDS - BEAUTIFUL
FOOD - EXCELLENT
COFFEE - HORRIBLE lol
SERVICE - Ranging from Good to EXCELLENT. Other than the check-in experience, we received great service at all restaurants and pool bar service.
Special Mentions :
Entertainment team was great! The whole team did a great job making guests happy and fostering a great vibe.
Julian on the entertainment team was great with everyone and very friendly. He was one of our favourites!
Lorenzo and Wendy on the entertainment team was also great and we enjoyed laughing with them.
Jorge from the Mar y Tierra restaurant (for Breakfast and Lunch) was great. He was our favourite server as he was personable and provided great service. He always made sure we had what we needed and greeted us every time we arrived.
Omar from the Mar Y Tierra restaurant (for Breakfast and Lunch was great also.
Pool Bar - Maria the bartender was great! She made great drinks and provided great service.
All waiters at the beach were excellent, but sadly we do not remember their names.
We paid a lot of money to vacation at this resort (more than others we have been to) and I guess we expected a bit more. I would recommend to others, but not sure if we would return.
Where do I start with this review? It was our first visit to the Valentin Imperial but it WILL NOT BE OUR LAST! I guess that gives an indication of the rest of the review.
I’ll break this down into semi manageable areas for ease:
STAFF: From the very first interaction to the very last they were brilliant. Every single person we came into contact with on the resort was helpful, friendly and full of joy. Many of them stood out but in particular our concierge Marcela and at the pool both Alberto and Jared were amazing. The natural joy of these people shone through and their customer service was second to none. I hope they get recognition from this as they were a huge part of why we enjoyed our trip so much. The entertainment in the evenings was provided by The Imperial Band, who were great musicians and singers. They varied their set each night and amazed us with their vocal and musical repertoire ranging from AC/DC through Stevie Wonder to Country music and Latin vibes. They were fantastic and a great way to finish a wonderful day in the sun with live music and cocktails.
THE ROOM: Beautifully decorated, really well equipped and very very comfortable. Huge and comfortable bed, well stocked mini bar, good shower, easy to use facilities. Cleaned well each day with a turn down service each evening that was lovely too. Couldn’t fault it.
THE GROUNDS & POOL: Sensationally laid out, really well kept, often tended by friendly and helpful gardeners. The atmosphere of gently piped music throughout the walkways was delightful. The pool area (we went Privilege package - well worth the extra by the way!) was beautiful. Our private cabana was lovely, the water clean and perfect temperature as were the drinks served either by Alberto or at the pool bar (a swim up). It was a joy just to walk around the grounds and see the amazing wildlife that coexists with the guests here. Some spectacular birds, lizards and most impressive of all - the Coatis that are indigenous to this part of Mexico, what a treat to see!
FOOD: I’ve not seen better buffet food at any all inclusive I’ve stayed at before. The lunches and breakfasts were hugely varied, freshly prepared, really tasty and of high quality. The restaurants in the evening were excellent too. In particular, The Hacienda and Ginger were superb.
OVERALL IMPRESSION: I can see why we met so many people that were on their 5th, 6th and in some cases 10th visit to The Valentin. It was sensational, I’ve travelled pretty extensively with work and stayed in 5 star hotels across the world but this HAS to rate right up there with the best.
It had the perfect balance of being upmarket without being snobbish or stand-offish. The staff were sensational, the grounds immaculate, the food delicious, the room perfect.
Thanks to everyone we met, you really helped make our visit a truly wonderful experience!
We will certainly return.
