How to Get There
We were able to stay in the presidential suite for my husband's birthday. It was a truly wonderful experience. The staff made it a special trip from start to finish. They decorated the room to make our arrival extra special. The room was fabulous with perfect views from every window. The huge patio was very secluded, but had views all up and down the beach. Every detail was great. The service at a the hotel was also impressive. Saulo made our dinners at the pool a very fun experience as our waiter. Jorge and Oscar made our Italian dinner very special. Raoul was great at the lobby bar, and Eric and Thomas took care of our every beach need. They made us feel at home, and pampered. The food was impressive, too! Italian and Japanese restaurants were especially good. The buffet for breakfast was good. Our favorite was the Cactus Cafe, right on the water with great tacos and ceviche. What a view! The beach is one of the cleanest with the best views that we have had. You can walk far on both sides of the resort. It was a wonderful stay and we can't wait to go back!
We stayed 2/5 through 2/13. We decided to have our wedding and honeymoon here with a few friends and family. With our stay we received the complimentary wedding package and put our money towards the bonfire reception package. First Maria was amazing throughout our whole trip. She made everything so simple. We had made decisions months prior via email and kept our wedding ceremony basic with no extras. There was never any pressure to up sell us. We had questions on other options and they promptly responded with answers and price. When I say we kept the ceremony basic, it didn’t turn out basic at all, it was beautiful. My included bouquet was way larger than I expected and it was breathtaking!!! The photographer took amazing pictures and I loved them even though I didn’t get to the weight I wanted to be, (not even close lol) Our bonfire reception was amazing. We had a storm roll in at dinner time but we took shelter temporarily and then we were able to resume our party since it blew over quickly. Maria was right there through it all and prepared to take everything inside of necessary. The resort was amazing, we never waited in lines for anything and even the nicer restaurants were minimal wait time. The service was excellent, everywhere!!! Each night when we were getting ready I had a couple glasses of wine delivered to the room #winning. You can do and get everything from a tablet in the room and we felt it was a genious set up. If you want a beautiful wedding & reception with no stress and reasonable cost, this is where you want to go. If you want a resort where you feel like you are royalty and everything is done with the highest quality but you aren’t completely breaking the bank, this is also the place you want to be. We will be back, and we will also be testing out other resorts under the Secrets properties going foreword. Maria, thank you for the best wedding memories we could have ever had ❤️
Overall the facilities are tired. The Architecture is beautiful. The size of the complex is a on the smaller side which we like. Not enough restaurants and food is average at best for a Secrets. Service and staff were excellent.
We have visited several Secrets Resorts over the years and this one was not the TOP but have no complaints either. Nice small, quaint atmosphere, older but well kept up. Smaller, basic rooms and small tub that my 6 foot husband could not fit.
Food was good, although we didn't visit many of the restaurants, buffet was great for us. Bar service was quick and there was always a drink to be found.
Bike ride was nice and had great information about the resort and area. My husband loved the Casino Night and won a nice bottle of Tequila. Country Show was well done and would give it 5 stars for a resort show.
Overall, would definitely visit it again and it is a great resort if you like a small, intimate atmosphere.
A smaller resort with less than 300 rooms which makes it easy to navigate. Food is very good with several options for lunch and dinner. Every day there was a grilled buffet by the pool with items ranging from the standard hamburgers and hotdogs to grilled fish or shrimp and paella. Outdoor Cactus Club Restaurant serves breakfast and wonderful tacos for lunch on a beautiful deck at the oceanside. Dinner is available at four sit-down restaurants (all good) or a buffet. Thank you Raoul for making our night at Portofino extra special. Entertainment was mostly good with outdoor shows around the pool 3 nights (Beatles, Il Divo and Mexican Fiesta). Theatre shows were a Queen tribute band and Elements which involved dancers in light suits (amazing) and hard rock music. The Elvis show is very entertaining and the performer has a voice which is spot on for the tribute to his idol. The Jersey Boys show is disappointing. The beach is nice and cleaner here than neighboring resorts. The pool is divided into two side by a footbridge. One side is unheated and quiet with the best pool server we have ever had; thank you Guadelupe for keeping us "hydrated" all week! The opposite side of the pool is heated with a swim-up bar, afternoon entertainment and more of a party atmosphere. The entire resort is showing some age but is very well maintained. We stayed for one week in a Jr. Suite Ocean View room which is slightly larger than a Deluxe room (adds a loveseat and desk), the best feature about this room is they are on the ground level which put us 19 steps from our patio to our pool chairs! Room has a comfortable bed with ample closet and drawer space. Bathroom has double sinks, separate shower with good water pressure and enclosed commode. Jetted tub with handheld showerhead is also in bathroom. Breakfast buffet was plentiful with variety. Special thanks to Enrique who had a dairy free oatmeal made for me twice which was delicious! The resort seems to appeal to more of a middle-aged clientele because of the size but got a little younger and wilder on the weekends with wedding guests.
