How to Get There
This hotel is a gem! The rooms are neat and quiet and the beds are huge! We loved the modern look and quirky elements of this hotel...the roof is AMAZING! Hanging out rooftop in the pool catching some sun is heavenly...and most days we were the only people up there. The free breakfast was awesome...I could drink gallons of that juice! The happy hour with free drink for each at night was also a nice touch. This place is right in the middle of everything and we never felt unsafe. Book your stay and thank me later!
We stayed at the Reina Roja for a full week during our Mexican holiday. The rooms are clean, the air conditioner a welcome treat at the end of each day, comfortable rooms and very friendly/helpful staff. If we are to make any negative comments it would be the noise from the Bands/DJ that play late into the night.....but, that totally seems to be the Mexican theme.
Breakfast was included with our stay~ we enjoyed sitting outside each morning dining. There are language barriers to work around that get tiresome but the staff smiled and tired so hard to please.
I would recommend this hotel if visiting....it’s close to everything you might need and it’s got a unique boutique feel.
So I booked this for a week for my 40th b-day last December (this is a late review, but I kept emailing and calling this year hoping that the management would refund my money as they had promised, but they have not.)
We checked in and first found the hotel cute and quirky. BUT the first night we could barely sleep, the noise was so loud from the bar below. We asked to be moved the next day, and they were nice and did so. Here is where the really hard part starts. We had no hot water. Over the next day and half, they sent up people to fix it but it never worked. We switched rooms, and again the hot water didn't work in that room either.
We spoke to the manager numerous times, and while we could tell they felt bad, they just never fixed the problem. We finally said we wanted to leave and that we wanted the money refunded. They agreed to that, but our over $1K was never refunded. I called numerous times, emailed, to no avail. There are many places to stay it in Playa- find another one, or even spend a bit more. You won't regret it.
We booked two rooms at this hotel. Rooms 304 & 307.
On room 307 we had to report at least 4 times that the safe was not working properly. Maintenance kept coming back to "fix" the problem, but the safe continue to give us a hard time, yet the hotel didn't offer to give us another room or a new safe.
On Sunday September 16th we were out for the entire day on an excursion. Upon our return back to the hotel, we noted our room had not been cleaned. Management left a letter in our room letting us know that they were unable to clean our room because our safe was open. We immediately checked our belongings and noticed that we were missing US$200.
We immediately reported the incident to the security guard on duty that night Mr. Baltazar. He told us that they were going to initiate an investigation the following day, when his manager was going to be on duty.
Our room was not cleaned that day, as the cleaning department was already closed down for the day. Management only offered us to sleep at a cheap hotel (looked like a hostel) next door just for that night, which we refused to.
The following morning we spoke with the head of security Mr. Henry, who told us that the investigation would take about 48 hours. He was going to review the cameras and also run a report of our electronic door lock.
Since the hotel management did not offer us to switch rooms, or give us a new safe, the only way we felt comfortable leaving our belongings in that room was to ask security to block out our room to everyone, including the cleaning department. We therefore had to sleep in a dirty room for the remaining 4 nights of our 1 week stay at this cheap hotel.
On the morning that we were checking out, Henry finally provided us with all the reports of the incident with the conclusion that nobody had entered our room.
On room 304, the batteries from the safe died, so they had to break the safe to be able to open it again.
It is frustrating that even after we reported 5 times that our safe was not properly working, management failed to do something about it. The incident with our stolen money could have been easily prevent if they had offered from the beginning to switch us to a different room.
Because of no fault of our own, we had to sleep in a dirty room a couple of nights.
Also, you can tell the rooms are not leaned properly. The curtains in our room had dust and white stains on them.
The pool in the rooftop looks like is very rarely cleaned, filled with small mosquitos and insects floating around grease spots.
The food at the hotel is also not that great. We asked for Guacamole and it was black (probably from the day before) when it was served at our table, you could tell right away it was not fresh.
I will never stay at this hotel again, I and recommend that you also stay away from it.
If you still decide to book a room at this hotel PLEASE be very careful using the safe. If you notice that the safe is not working properly, ask right away to be switched over to a different room.
I didn’t know what to expect with this hotel but I was definitely surprised! Came here for a The staff were very cordial and welcoming. It was very hot when I arrived and they gave me a fresh glass of pineapple juice as well as a cool towel that smelled heavenly. The hotel had a cool little small pool in the lobby as well as a rooftop pool that host parties. During my time there in the middle of September, it was very quiet. I got the cheapest, smallest room and It wasn’t bad at all. Nice firm king size bed, spacious balcony, nice tv channels ;) and a nice bathroom with shower. I enjoyed my stay and will definitely be back!!!
