How to Get There
My family and I stayed for the second time at this beautiful property last week. I just love how quiet the place is. We stayed in downstairs room 604 with a little pool. Everything worked great. There were little ants on the countertops as some other people stated, but it's because my son left poptarts on the counter. Rent a car to get around. We used Firefly this time and we were very happy. We also went to the taco shops others recommended on tripadvisor and the food was affordable and delicious. We loved the pool and beach and everything else. We never had to call front desk since nothing needed their attention. I will come back to Pure Mareazul in the future.
The light went off for 12 hours and we had no water/kitchen/light/air conditioner. We had to go somewhere else to take a shower and have breakfast. We couldn't even use the restroom. All the food we had in the fridge got rotten. Nobody could tell us what was the problem or when it was going to be fixed. It was a very bad experience due to the amount of money we paid for our stay. We can't understand why if everything in the hotel is electric, they don't have a power station. Incredible.
Well I can't tell much about the property as we never got to see past the check in area.
First, I booked the Pure Mareazul about 1 month before our stay on their puremareazul.com and I received confirmation via email confirming room, rate and dates. Also 3 days before my expected stay I received another confirmation email from Pure Mareazul confirming room, dates and number of people.
When we arrived, we went to the front desk and gave our name and told them we were checking in. Our name did not show up and the clerk asked when we made the reservation, when my wife replied we made it online (apparently wrong answer) we were asked quite condescendingly WHEN (pause) DID (pause) YOU (pause) MAKE (pause) THE (pause) RESERVATION. When I provided a paper copy of the confirmation and number I was told that we do not show in the system, we had no reservations and they have no rooms. The desk clerk said that the printed confirmation was just a piece of paper and didn't mean anything. The desk person said they were the manager on duty, that the property manager was not available but I could return the next day to talk with them. I was repeatedly told there was nothing they could do as they had no rooms or confirmed reservations.
When my wife broke down in tears we were finally told they had another property a short drive away that was not as nice and smaller but they could give us a room at the standard rate, not free or discounted, standard. We drove there, further away from the ocean, and were shown the room by someone that spoke no English so simple questions couldn't be answered. Also, the room only slept 4 people and there were 5 of us - 2 adults and 3 kids.
We ended up using our phones to book somewhere else and luckily since we rented a car were able to drive there ourselves.
I'm not sure what is worse, traveling 2500 miles to find your booked room is not honored or the level of unprofessional indifference the check-in person displayed to the obvious mistake they made.
We have visited this area 5 times now and this is by fast the worst stay!! Where to start!! This is a condominium gone wrong... if I was a owner of this place I would be pissed!! The lack of maintenance is ridiculous. At first glance the place is nice but give it 2 mins and you will see that it’s falling apart. Now we have stayed at both regular hotels, all inclusive and condos before but this was brutal. So our first day we thought we would lounge by this big beautiful pool, we had almost this whole pool to ourselves, great righ. Until we got out of the pool and we were all GREEN yes u read it right we were freaking green. Now my two teenage daughters are red heads with very pale white skin so you could imagine how they were freaking out as they looked like a new version of smufs. It took 3 showers with scrubbing their bodies to come off and I was able to get the green out of all of our swim suits. We thought the beach was pretty but so much seaweed you couldn’t not wouldn’t want to swim there ( at least at a resort it would be cleaned up ) The composite decking thru the whole resort was in really bad shape and it’s everywhere. We had a mini pool at our condo which my son loved but it only had half the water it normally should have, the water level was below the filter and the lights, they came by one morning to put chemicals in it but didn’t tell anyone, we saw them so we knew not to let the kid go in it but we had to stop our neighbours from jumping in. We understood it’s a condo and basically no service, I get that. But we asked the day we arrived and the next two days after so a total of three times for a extra blanket and pillow so our son could have it, he wanted to sleep on the couch instead of with his sisters. They finally brought it half way thru our stay. We killed two massive cockroaches in our suite, first time in 5 resorts to have cockroaches. Our shower in our master bath leaked so bad that it leaked under the tiles and when u walked into the bathroom which is a good 7-8 feet between bathroom entrance to shower that the tiles were squishing and water came up thru the grout when you walked in it. When I booked this I could have paid about a extra $1500 and we would have been at a 4-5 star all inclusive but I thought why not do the condo, my kids are picky eaters and we wanted to spend that money and do the parks. I should have just booked the all inclusive, we didn’t spend too much on food and we booked xel-ha and xplor which included the food but at least with the all inclusive we would have had a clean beach and pool that wouldn’t turn us green. The hotel would have been maintained!!! Thus by far the biggest issue we had with this place. Oh I forgot to mention the rusty nails sticking out everywhere by our pool, I’m taking everything was falling apart. Now these people who give a great review MUST be renting off a private owner. But there is still major lack in maintenance at the main large pool. Seriously don’t waste your money!!!
Don’t know why people complain, Mareazul is wonderful. We have traveled extensively throughout Central America and the Caribbean and this area is now one of our favorites... we had an oceanfront room with a swim up pool and felt like we were living in the lap of luxury… The ocean was amazing the beach was beautiful the room was up-to-date and had everything we needed. They cleaned once a day and brought fresh towels. The pool was one of the most magnificent pools I’ve ever seen and was practically deserted. The grounds were gorgeous and the surrounding neighborhoods were friendly and very chill. You could definitely stroll from the complex to downtown fifth Street if you enjoy walking. We had our two teenage daughters with us and did not fee threatened once... Neighborhood did not feel at all sketchy to me but I’m not afraid of other cultures. If you are looking for a quiet upscale beautiful beach condominium, this is your place… We will be back And we never do the same place twice!!
