How to Get There
poor service.. beach full or sargassum, nobody cleaned it, and reception staff could not care less. all they did say was "we are working on it".. but no information before hand that the beach is full of stinky seaweed.. apartment also did smell of sewage a few days, notified the reception and they did not bother to do anything.. far to walk into town and a 10 usd taxi fare..
be very aware of the beaches in the area.. nobody tell any tourist before hand about the sargassum problem that they have on the beaches in the area, incl playa del carmen, tulum, and riviera maya. and the crime rate in sky high.
We planned to stay here 4 nights as 9 years ago it was a newer property and we stayed here for a cousin’s wedding.
What a disappointment we had.
Day #1 - we arrived at 9pm checked in (after a 10 hour trip from LA) brought in our bags and surprise #1, the moment we opened the shower faucet for a good night sleep before crashing, our whole room stincked like sewer, all the rooms, living areas, bedroom, etc. We called the “front desk” and the solution we got was “you have to wait until tomorrow because everybody here is gone”.
Day #2 - Morning Breakfast - we tried to visit the one restaurant that opens at 9am. They didnt’t allow us in if we would not pay up front $1,500MXN. We decided to walk back to the pool’s snack bar, well they didn’t open until noon, when they brought us the menu- 50% of the items not available so yoi had to stick to 3-4 things only.
IMPORTANT POINT - POOLS ARE SHUT DOWN AT 7PM. NO LIGHTS IN THE EVENING THE PLACE GOES 100% DARK, how do you explain this to your kids?
Every building of the property is supposed to have a nice water river surrounding each building: all were water dry, I wa scared my kids would fall down into the concrete and injure.
All steel fittings in the room were rusted, walls scratched and re-painted with different colors. Sliding doors to the terrace got stucked so we needed 2 people to push it open.
The private jacuzzi in our terrace needed to be filled 1/2 way and the wait to get water heated for an hour.
Complained 10 times, asked to tell the manager to call me and discuss our situatuion, the guy never ever even tried to reach out.
Do yourself a favor. Don’t stay here, it feels like a scam, they are running out of budget, and they are just trying to keep in running until the place is sold to a hotel operator.
This place could have been beautiful with proper maintenance. Pool is stunning and the beach is the nicest one we saw on our trip. The buildings however have visible water damage and mold. We left due to concerns over air quality. Hopefully they remediate this issue.
I can not express enough how people should avoid this resort.
Just the fact alone that I almost CUT MY THUMB OFF ON THEIR COUCH, would be enough and that is my basis for this review. Not only did I have to get 2 stitches because they had a couch ( the bottom pulls out and comes up but was totally detached) that was faulty, THE OWNER NEVER BOTHERED RESPONDING TO MY EMAILS OR TO MALE SURE IM OK!!!!! I’m still hurt 2 weeks plus later & have heard nothing! Also, I KNOW I’m in Mexico, but as a resort, there should be someone who speaks English at ALL TIMES! I can count the number of people who I was able to speak to ( I speak some but not enough) & that would be 3! And if I didn’t catch them in those hours, I couldn’t get what I needed. When I showed them my finger, instead of getting me a doctor, they handed me a first aid kit. BTW, THE ROOM WAS OVER $4000 FOR 7 DAYS!!!!!!! I’m beyond upset and will NEVER go to this resort in my life again!
We loved everything about Pure Mareazul. Our villa was lovely, comfortable, convenient, well positioned and spotless. The pool there is the biggest pool I have ever seen in my life, with so much room my three sons (10, 14 and 17) could play raucous games in it with balls and frisbees with no one in the area to be disturbed by them. Absolutely brilliant, and the little snack bar in the middle of the pool has pretty good food. The location is great, on the northern edge of Playa del Carmen. (You'll need a rental car, though.)
Unfortunately the beaches all along the Mayan Riviera this summer were covered in yucky seaweed, so no one is really using the beaches much at present. There is a watersports hut on the beach though, from which we went banana boating and parasailing, which were both great fun. The prices were quite reasonable too. I don't remember exactly how much it was, but I think it was about $25 per person.
There is plenty to do in the Playa area besides beaches, though, and Pure Mareazul is a great place to do them from! Highly recommended!
